Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra camera details leaked

Samsung fans may be in for a significant change as the tech giant is reportedly considering a shift away from its traditional camera sensor supplier for its upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra. A recent leak suggests that Samsung might opt for a 200-megapixel Sony sensor, departing from its usual reliance on its own ISOCELL sensors used in previous Ultra models. This potential change could indicate a new direction in the company's mobile photography strategy, as reported by a tipster on the Chinese platform tipster, known as Fixed Focus Digital, shared that the Sony sensor is not just any camera component but a 200-megapixel powerhouse with a 1/1.1-inch sensor size. This is a substantial increase from the 1/1.3-inch sensor currently utilised in Samsung's Galaxy S25 Ultra. Such an increase in sensor size could significantly enhance light capture, resulting in better detail and dynamic range, crucial factors in smartphone the realm of smartphone sensors, achieving a near-1-inch sensor is rare, typically reserved for premium devices from brands like Xiaomi and Vivo, which generally do not exceed 50-megapixel. The integration of Sony's advanced sensor technology, known for its excellence, could offer Samsung an opportunity to advance its image quality capabilities beyond its current limits. Larger sensors generally translate to improved low-light performance, richer colours, and sharper details. These enhancements are not only crucial for professional-grade photography but also for everyday users seeking superior photo quality. Additionally, the increased data captured by the larger sensor could be further enhanced by AI-driven image processing, offering cleaner and more vibrant images even in challenging lighting the adoption of such a large sensor may require modifications to the physical design of the Galaxy S26 Ultra. This could result in a more pronounced camera bump, although rumours suggest Samsung may be developing new optics technology to maintain a sleek design. Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra could get a massive camera upgrade

Samsung's Galaxy S26 Ultra is supposedly coming in January, and according to a new rumor from China today, it might bring with it a massive camera upgrade. Namely, the main sensor is said to be Sony's upcoming 1/1.1" type with 200 MP resolution, the Japanese company's first with so many pixels. The Galaxy S25 Ultra uses the Samsung ISOCELL HP2, which has 200 MP resolution too, but is smaller at 1/1.3". The bigger size of the Sony sensor will let in more light, which should result in much-improved shots. The only asterisk here is that there's a chance Samsung will push the use of this Sony sensor to the Galaxy S27 Ultra in 2027. Hopefully the S26 Ultra will see it, but it doesn't seem to be a given according to the source of this rumor. Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra Source (in Chinese)

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra tipped to feature new Sony-made 200MP camera sensor and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 chipset

Samsung's next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S26 Ultra, is already making headlines months ahead of its expected launch in January 2026. Early leaks are painting a clearer picture of what the South Korean tech giant has in store, with camera upgrades and performance enhancements leading the list of rumoured improvements. According to a recent leak from Chinese tipster Fixed Focus Digital on Weibo, the Galaxy S26 Ultra could debut with a significantly larger 200MP main camera sensor, reportedly sourced from Sony. If accurate, this would mark a notable shift in Samsung's approach to mobile imaging, as the company has traditionally relied on its in-house ISOCELL sensors for its Ultra series. The new sensor is tipped to measure 1/1.1 inches, an upgrade over the 1/1.3-inch sensor featured in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The larger sensor size is expected to offer enhanced light capture and improved image quality, particularly in low-light environments. While earlier rumours hinted at the use of the ISOCELL HP2 sensor once again, the switch to Sony's CMOS technology could signify a strategic pivot in Samsung's camera development. Alongside the upgraded main camera, the S26 Ultra is said to house a versatile rear camera setup that includes a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 12MP 3x telephoto shooter, and a 50MP periscope lens with 5x optical zoom. The phone is also expected to benefit from Samsung's next-generation ProVisual Engine, which aims to boost computational photography performance. On the performance front, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is likely to be powered by Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 processor, anticipated to be unveiled later this year. The device is rumoured to offer up to 16GB of RAM, promising top-tier performance across multitasking, gaming, and AI-powered features. Design-wise, the handset is expected to retain a 6.9-inch display similar to its predecessor, though slimmer bezels may offer a more immersive viewing experience. As with previous Ultra models, the device is anticipated to carry an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. While none of these details have been officially confirmed, the early leaks suggest that Samsung is gearing up for a substantial refresh of its flagship line-up in 2026, with imaging technology and raw performance at the forefront.

Galaxy S26 Ultra leak teases a surprising, and massive, camera upgrade

A leaker is now claiming the Galaxy S26 Ultra could get a Sony-made 200MP camera, which is notably larger than the one on the S25 Ultra. The leak suggests improvement in image quality. A new leak by tipster Fixed Focus Digital on Weibo is now claiming that Samsung's upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S26 Ultra , will sport a 1/1.1-inch 200MP Sony camera sensor. Reportedly, this new sensor would be for the main camera. The post on Weibo, machine translated. | Screenshot by PhoneArena The tipster doesn't give any other details about the flagship's other cameras. However, this new 200MP sensor, if it indeed makes it into the Galaxy S26 Ultra , would be a pretty big deal. The report, if true, indicates a pretty big upgrade for the Galaxy S26 Ultra in the camera department. First of all, the claim is that we're talking about a 1/1.1-inch 200MP camera sensor. This is quite larger than the current 200MP sensor (1/1.3-inch) which is on the Galaxy S25 Ultra and previous Ultra models by the company. It's worth noting that this rumored sensor is just slightly smaller than the one-inch camera sensors seen on some rival Android phones, including the Oppo Find X8 Ultra or the Xiaomi 13 Pro. The Galaxy S25 Ultra. | Image Credit – PhoneArena The larger sensor means there would be an increased light intake, which, understandably, improves picture quality compared to what the Galaxy S25 Ultra currently has. If the rumor pans out, it would be expected that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will provide better low-light photos and higher-quality cropped zoom images. All in all, the full-resolution 200MP pictures from this sensor could also be dramatically better than the current S25 Ultra's 200MP photos. Of course, all of this is still leaks and rumors, and we're obviously quite far away from the release date of the Galaxy S26 Ultra to know for sure. However, there's one curious thing worth mentioning here. So far, Samsung has always used in-house 200MP cameras for its Ultra models. That is because Sony has not released a sensor with 200MP for smartphones just yet. Rumors claimed back in March that Sony may be working on such a sensor, and these rumors indicated the sensor may be larger than Samsung's. That's a pretty big deal, though. If this new rumor is right, Sony may enter the ultra-high-resolution smartphone sensor market with its new camera that Samsung may introduce with the S26 Ultra . That would be big both for Sony and for Samsung. But there's another thing. Samsung has recently been quite conservative, if I may say so, with hardware upgrades, especially for the Galaxy S series. We all remember the disappointment many Samsung fans felt with the January Unpacked, when we saw that there was little new with the Galaxy S25 series. Either Samsung has heard us and decided it will stack up the upgrades next year, or the rumor may be false. The thing is, the Galaxy S26 Ultra has already been rumored to come with a 200MP camera, but none of these earlier leaks claimed it would be a larger sensor or a Sony one. So for now, let's take this information with a grain of salt. Personally, though, I think it's possible to happen. After all, Samsung's given us plenty of upgrades with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 even though we believed (at one point) that not a lot of upgrades were coming. Maybe finally Samsung is playing seriously again, and is about to hit us with a nice surprise with the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra . The phone is set to be unveiled at the beginning of next year.
