‘ARC Raiders' Gets A Promising, Imminent Release Date Update

ARC Raiders Players recently fought and stealthed their way from the ARC Raiders Closed Alpha, and almost everyone had a similar thought: This game seems ready for release. That's not usually the case with an Alpha, and while there were certainly balance issues, it felt like a complete game perhaps minus a few things that were being held in the test. But it didn't even look like it needed say, visual polish. There may be a reason for that, and some players believe they've found the actual release date for ARC Raiders, which may be imminent. A post-Alpha update was added to the game and for ten minutes, players dug around to find that through the .exe file it led to a 'tick counter' link which ended on June 6. In what seems like an unlikely coincidence, Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest show begins on, you guessed it, June 6. You will also never guess when Embark's last game, The Finals, debuted. That was at The Game Awards 2023, where it was instantly playable when it was shown off. A 'shadow drop.' The one difference was that there was an actual open beta for The Finals a month before The Game Awards, where there has not been anything like that here. But: 1) The game feeling ready to release 2) This dug-up date being the day Summer Games Fest starts 3) Embark shadow-dropping The Finals at a different Keighley event I mean, that all points to the idea that this June 6 date, just under two weeks from now, may in fact pan out. Arc Raiders ARC Raiders was viewed as a solid new entry in the extraction shooter genre during its last Closed Alpha, with its playercount increasing each day during the test. It also had the benefit of running the test at the same time as rival extraction shooter Marathon, the upcoming Bungie game and most players would say it compared very favorably. Marathon was more unfinished in what felt like a true Alpha test ahead of an alleged September 23 release date. Bungie just stumbled into a controversy when it was revealed that stolen art assets have been used in the game. ARC Raiders has had no such controversy and it would simply not be surprising if it dropped at Summer Games Fest. One issue with shadow drops, however, is that everyone is suddenly rushing to play all at once, creating server or login issues, which is exactly what happened with The Finals. But hopefully they're preparing for that. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.

Summer Game Fest 2025: What to expect and how to watch games revealed live

As if early June wasn't already going to be a wild enough time in the gaming world with the arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2, that's also when a whole host of showcases takes place as part of Summer Game Fest. Along with the two blockbuster events — Summer Game Fest Live and the Xbox Games Showcase — there are a bunch of other ones in store, including the always-delightful Day of the Devs. There could be even more on the docket. There's always a chance that Nintendo and Sony will run a Direct or State of Play, respectively, over the next few weeks. Ubisoft hasn't yet announced a Forward event for this year either — perhaps because it has delayed a bunch of big games and isn't ready to talk about them. We haven't yet heard about a Devolver Direct either (c'monnnn, we need Baby Steps and Skate Story release dates already!). As things stand, SGF is slated to run from June 6 until June 8. With E3 officially dead (organizer Entertainment Software Association is planning an industry-focused event for next April instead), SGF is now the de facto replacement and the biggest event for announcements and updates this side of Gamescom in August. We'll update this preview as more details about the showcases emerge, including additional events in the SGF nebula. We'll embed videos for each stream as they become available as well. Engadget will be on the ground in Los Angeles for the in-person side of SGF, which is for media and creators. We'll be bringing you hands-on impressions of many of the games that are featured during SGF Live. Most folks will be keeping up with everything from home, though. To that end, here's a breakdown of how to watch Summer Game Fest 2025 and what to expect from the extravaganza (we're bound to get a Hollow Knight: Silksong release date this time, right?!?!) Summer Game Fest Live — June 6, 5PM ET Day of the Devs — June 6, 7PM ET Wholesome Direct — June 7, 12PM ET Women-led Games Showcase — June 7, 1PM ET Latin American Games Showcase — June 7, 2PM ET Xbox Games Showcase — June 8, 1PM ET Putting aside our annoyance at the timing of this showcase — late on a Friday evening in the UK and right when many folks on the East Coast are clocking out for the weekend — Summer Game Fest Live is one of the bigger events in early June. It starts at 5PM ET and will run for two hours. Organizers are promising "spectacular new video game announcements, surprises and reveals." That's pretty compelling, especially since host Geoff Keighley (rightfully) downplayed expectations ahead of last year's show. We do know about a few games that will appear. SGF Live will include a fresh look at Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, a Soulslike action RPG from Leenzee, a studio based in China. That game will arrive in July. Open-world MMORPG Chrono Odyssey will make an appearance as well. You can watch SGF Live on more than 20 platforms, including YouTube, Twitch, X, TikTok, Steam and international services. The event will stream live from the YouTube Theater, and you can attend in person, if you like. In any case, we'll be bringing you all the major news from Summer Game Fest Live. We just can't promise we won't have an adult beverage with an umbrella next to us while we're covering the event. Immediately after SGF Live ends, the YouTube and Twitch streams will segue into the summer 2025 Day of the Devs stream. This indie-focused showcase invariably has a fantastic lineup of games worth keeping an eye on. Among the games making appearances are Possessor(s) from Heart Machine and "nightmarish RPG" Neverway from Coldblood and co-publisher Outersloth. We'll also see something from House House ( Untitled Goose Game ) — presumably the co-op "walker-talker" Big Walk that was revealed in 2023. In all, this edition of Day of the Devs will feature 20 games. Last year's show included 2024 game(s) of the year contender UFO 50 , the very intriguing platformer Screenbound , survival climbing game Cairn , the delightfully kooky-looking Building Relationships and sci-fi mystery Phoenix Springs . My Steam wishlist somehow expands quite significantly after each Day of the Devs showcase. Weird how that always happens. Definitely don't overlook the smaller events that take place during SGF, as you can always find plenty of treats among them. One such event is the Wholesome Direct, which will feature around 60 cozy games. It will include world premieres, demo announcements and updates from publishers and developers including Playstack, btf Games, ustwo games and Wētā Workshop (whose Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of The Rings Game arrives in July). This one does what it says on the tin. It's a showcase featuring games from women-led and majority-women studios. Women-led Games will feature 39 titles, including world premieres and release dates. The Latin American Games Showcase will feature more than 50 games, all of which are from Latin American developers, oddly enough. Expect world premieres, game update news and more from this one. What's the over/under on the number of times the phrase "day one with Game Pass" will appear on this stream? That's one phrase you can definitely expect to hear, but Microsoft will have plenty to share here. It's the biggest Xbox showcase of the year. There will be reveals and updates from across Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda and Activision Blizzard. Games that the company has in the pipeline include Fable (2026), Perfect Dark, Gears of War: E-Day, Everwild, State of Decay 3, Clockwork Revolution, Hideo Kojima's OD and Contraband . It feels a little early for an update on The Elder Scrolls 6 since that game is still years away. But we may find out more about those other games and some we don't yet know about. I have my fingers crossed for more info on the Blade game that Arkane Studios is working on. It's a reasonably safe bet that we'll see something about the next Call of Duty here as well. One game we'll definitely hear more about on June 8 is The Outer Worlds 2 . That's getting its own time in the spotlight, with a dedicated event that will start as soon as the main Xbox Games Showcase ends. Meanwhile, several publishers and other organizations are hosting their own shows around SGF. Here's when those will take place: IGN Live — throughout June 7 and 8 Southeast Asian Games Showcase — June 7, 3PM ET To view this content, you'll need to update your privacy settings. Please click here and view the "Content and social-media partners" setting to do so. Future Games Show — June 7, 4PM ET (featuring more than 40 games) To view this content, you'll need to update your privacy settings. Please click here and view the "Content and social-media partners" setting to do so. PC Gamer 's PC Gaming Show — June 8, 3PM ET (with 50-plus games) Phew. Get ready, gamers. Details on many, many new games are coming your way very soon.

No PlayStation showcase this summer suggest insiders as Sony waits till autumn

Sony is not thought to be planning any showcase or State of Play event this summer, as insiders tease big Japanese game reveals for Geoff Keighley's show. Over the past five years, Sony has held either a State Of Play presentation or a PlayStation Showcase during the months of May or June. This in turn is the continuation of a decades long tradition of preview events originally timed to coincide with the now defunct E3 expo. Along with Microsoft and Nintendo, Sony has always kept to the same basic schedule (although recently they've preferred late May to early June), while third party publishers have relied on Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest. The Xbox showcase is already scheduled for June 8 but given the Switch 2 launch in the same week it's unclear what Nintendo will do. Sony has said nothing so far about an event but multiple insiders suggest that they may not have any presentation until September. Earlier this week, reliable insider NateTheHate, aka NateDrake, (who, amongst other things, accurately predicted the Switch 2 reveal date) has said he still hasn't 'heard anything about a May event from Sony for this year'. This was supported by fellow insider John Harker, who responded to a post in the same ResetEra thread, which speculated Sony was targeting September for its next event. 'Indeed,' he wrote in response. While there's a chance Sony could announce a show over the next two weeks, and blindside everybody, there are usually whispers from insiders in the weeks prior – so the lack of any information suggests Sony might not hold any presentation this summer. If true, this would be somewhat surprising, considering Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is just around the corner, on June 26, and there are rumours of a new God Of War game, but it's possible Sony could showcase these during the main Summer Game Fest show. In fact, in a separate post, NateTheHate has said he knows 'of a few Japanese games being shown and/or revealed at Summer Game Fest', which could include Sony. More Trending This post was in response to a ResetEra user who asked if Japanese games will have a big presence at the show, with Kingdom Hearts 4, Resident Evil 9, Persona 6, and the successor to Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth named as their dream reveals. While it's unclear if he was being sarcastic, NateTheHate replied: 'Your expectations don't seem too high, so you should be 'thrilled' per your own words.' Square Enix recently provided an update on Kingdom Hearts 4 for the first time in years, so it's possible a new trailer is on the horizon. Similarly, Capcom appeared to tease Resident Evil 9 in a video last month, while rumours of a Persona 4 remake have also accelerated recently – so there's a chance they will all pop up in some capacity. Although there's normally always a Nintendo Direct in early or mid June the timing of the Switch 2 launch makes it very hard to predict what they might do. But if they do miss their usual spot there's likely to be another Direct in the late summer. Email gamecentral@ leave a comment below, follow us on Twitter, and sign-up to our newsletter. Xbox Just Added 50+ Classic Activision Games To Game Pass

Surprise! If you are a Game Pass subscriber, you now have access to dozens and dozens of retro video games. And Xbox and Activision plan to add even more classic games in the future. On May 21, Xbox announced that over 50 retro Activision games were now available via a new app called Retro Classics. The new app is available only via Xbox Game Pass for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and streaming. It is available to all Game Pass subscribers, including Game Pass Core members (unless you live in Japan). Let's ignore that it should obviously have been called Xbox Retro Arcade, and instead focus on the new app. According to Xbox, Retro Classics is powered by Antstream Arcade's streaming game tech, which is a mostly solid way to instantly play tons of old games across many different platforms. The new app supports challenges, multiplayer, multiple saves, weekly tournaments, user profiles, and leaderboards. And yes, Retro Classics has achievements. Finally, you can get a nifty Xbox achievement for playing River Raid. 'This initiative is a step in our commitment to game preservation and backwards compatibility, allowing players to experience many timeless games on modern devices,' said Xbox in a post on the company's website. So what games are currently available on the Retro /Arcade/ Classics app? Here's some I spotted and tested: Kaboom!, Pitfall, Pitfall 2, River Raid, Grand Prix, Commando, Barnstorming, Fishing Derby, and Mech Warrior 2. Oh and Freddy Pharkas: Frontier Pharmacist is available, too. That's a game that a young Geoff Keighley helped test back in the day, long before he had a whole game award show. According to Xbox, this is just the start. It plans on adding more Acitivison and Blizzard games to the app in the future. While I'm not a huge fan of streaming old games like this, and would prefer actual downloads and offline play, this is still better than nothing. It's nice to see Xbox finally digging into Activision's deep library of classic games and doing something with them after buying the publisher back in 2023. If Microsoft wants to own the entire game industry, the least it can do is make it easier to legally play the old stuff it gobbled up in the process. . You can play Switch 2 at Gamescom 2025 as Nintendo confirms attendance

After skipping last year's event, Nintendo has confirmed it will be attending Gamescom 2025, just two months after the Switch 2's launch. Now that E3 is no more, Gamescom is the world's biggest gaming event, based on its size and visitor numbers, but one company was notably absent last year. Nintendo skipped last year's event, held annually in Cologne, Germany, and while no explicit reason was given at the time, it was presumably so the company could prepare for the Switch 2's launch. Nintendo has now confirmed it will return for Gamescom 2025, which takes place from August 20 until August 24. The news was announced on Nintendo's German account on X. 'Mark your calendar in red,' the post reads. 'Nintendo will be back at Gamescom in 2025. We look forward to welcoming you to Cologne from August 20th to 24th!' There are no details on what Nintendo will show, but it will likely focus on the Switch 2 line-up beyond its initial launch on June 5, 2025. Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza will both be released by the time Gamescom 2025 rolls around, so it might be the place to showcase Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokémon Legends Z-A, which are both slated for later this year, albeit without exact release dates. More Trending Drag x Drive, aka the wheelchair basketball game, is also set to launch at some point in the summer, while Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment and Kirby Air Riders both have vague 2025 release dates, so it's possible they could be playable too. Neither Microsoft or Sony have announced whether they're attending Gamescom 2025, but the latter has skipped for the last several years. With Marathon and Ghost of Yōtei on the horizon though, it's possible Sony could make an appearance. As usual, Gamescom 2025 will be preceded by Opening Night Live, hosted by Geoff Keighley, which serves as a starting presentation for the event with game announcements. Before Gamescom, Keighley is set to host Summer Game Fest on Friday June 6, which will be followed by an Xbox showcase on Sunday, June 8.
