Now, women head five key South Central Railway departments
HYDERABAD: Five of South Central Railway's (SCR) crucial departments — Operations, Commercial, Finance, Security and Medical — are now headed by women officers, marking the first time in the zone's history that these divisions are simultaneously led by women. The appointments highlight both the growing role of women in Indian Railways and the complex responsibilities they shoulder in ensuring seamless train operations, passenger safety, financial discipline and employee welfare across one of the country's busiest zones. Ity Pandey, from the 1998 IRTS batch, took charge as Principal Chief Commercial Manager on August 2. She supervises passenger and freight services, ensuring customer satisfaction and revenue generation. An award-winning officer and author of Riding the Freight Train, she was recognised among India's top bureaucrat change-makers in 2024. A marathon runner, she became the only woman civil servant to complete the 88-km Comrades Marathon in South Africa in 2023.

Aston Villa still dare to dream, but financial compliance is choking ambition
Another tifo cascaded from the Holte End before kick-off. It was Unai Emery smiling and clapping, with his players in the background. Above, the caption: 'No limits to our dreams.' The message was meant to inspire and show that, under manager Emery, Aston Villa have immeasurably raised the bar of their expectations. Yet, at the same time, the tifo jarred. Advertisement Below the text and just behind Emery's head on the banner was Jacob Ramsey. The tifo had been made before the club agreed to let their homegrown lad, born six miles from Villa Park, join Saturday's opponents. Post-match, Newcastle United's manager Eddie Howe called Ramsey an 'outstanding player'. After all, he was soon going to be theirs. Fundamentally, Ramsey's departure is a representation of how Villa's dreams are being limited or, at the very least, curbed. The 24-year-old was an asset Villa had to sell as a result of various financial restrictions, all blessed with their own acronym. This has been the summer of (financial) discontent; a subject so evident and stifling that Emery had no choice but to refer to it in his programme notes. His words, as it happened, contradicted the tifo's message. 'We cannot avoid that the summer has been challenging because the financial rules were conditioning our investment in the squad,' he wrote. 'Financial control rules came to football to avoid bankruptcies and payment defaults with a good purpose. 'But as professionals we should review it, as this good tool will become a limitation for clubs that are doing good management, who'll never be allowed to dream and get higher goals because the revenue, key for these financial rules, needs time to come to reality after sporting success.' The dreams Emery has fostered since his arrival in November 2022 have endured a reality check this summer. Instead of strengthening a squad that only missed out on Champions League football on goal difference, Villa's focus has centred on complying with UEFA's squad cost rules (SCR), reducing a wage bill that previously accounted for 91 per cent of overall revenue down to, at most, 70 per cent. Villa are a victim of their success. They are entering their third successive season of participating in European competition. UEFA rules state clubs can lose no more than €60million (£51.6m; $70.1m) over that period, plus a possible €10m per year if European football's governing body deems them to be in a 'good' financial state. UEFA's 'football earnings rule' is a tighter version of the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules (PSR), which

RUF's 610-HP Rodeo Makes Its Production Debut at Monterey
RUF Automobile has long stood apart in the Porsche ecosystem, transforming 911s into machines worthy of wearing their own badge. From the insanely awesome Yellowbird of the late 1980s to the modern CTR Anniversary, the German manufacturer has specialized in hand-built sports cars that blur the line between Porsche derivative and standalone creation. In 2020, the company surprised us with a concept that went against its usual low-slung, high-speed formula – the RUF Rodeo, an off-road take on the 911 silhouette. What began as a showpiece has now become a full-fledged production model, with the very first customer car handed over at Monterey Car Week's The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. The first production Rodeo carries the same carbon-fiber monocoque underpinnings as RUF's other modern cars but is built for conditions far beyond smooth tarmac. Finished in Jordan Black, it pairs its deep paintwork with white centerlock forged wheels, roof rails, model designations, and quad-stacked exhaust tips. Think Porsche 911 Dakar – but cooler and gnarlier. The stance is more aggressive than the road-going SCR thanks to integrated bash bars, wide fender flares, and a wider track – 1.6 inches up front and 5.6 inches at the rear. Lighting comes from RUF's Bi-LED headlights and LED taillights, adding modern precision to its rugged form. The chassis is raised by 9.5 inches compared to the SCR and employs a double-wishbone pushrod suspension designed in-house, with adjustable all-wheel drive and ceramic brakes at each corner. Power is provided by a 3.6-liter turbocharged flat-six developing 610 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed manual. With this configuration, the Rodeo delivers off-road readiness without losing the analog experience central to the RUF identity. To mark the milestone delivery, Aloisa Ruf has designed a limited collection of hand-painted Rodeo jeans, each pair individually numbered. The Rodeo was not the only car RUF brought to Monterey. The CTR3 EVO, finished in Howe White, also found its first owner at The Quail. Serving as the fastest car in the lineup, it uses a 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six producing 800 hp and 730 pound-feet of torque, routed to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. A top speed of 236 mph places it in modern supercar territory, with a carbon-fiber body and aerodynamic aids such as a large wing, diffuser, and front splitter ensuring stability at speed. Alongside it was the production-ready Tribute, a model-year 2026 release powered by a newly developed air-cooled 3.6-liter twin-turbo flat-six producing 550 hp. Designed as a nod to the 911's history, it represents the only production air-cooled car offered by an OEM today. Together with the Rodeo and CTR3 EVO, it showcases the breadth of RUF's capabilities – from adventure-focused off-roader to cutting-edge track car to a nostalgic callback.
