Everything to watch on Netflix in August, including the return of the streamer's most-watched programme ever

August is almost here, which means one last month of pub gardens, sunning your bare legs and evenings spent drinking vino in the park. But after all that partying and soaking up the sun, what could be better than relaxing on the sofa and sticking on a stellar TV series or film? Thankfully, Netflix has a bumper crop of new, bingeable shows to see us through. From a dreamy new romance by an icon of British TV to the return of Netflix's most-watched show to date, here are the films and programmes we're streaming in the month ahead. My Oxford Year (Release date: 1st August) Based on the bestselling novel by Julia Whelan, My Oxford Year is a sweeping romance about Anna (Sofia Carson), an American who gets the chance to study at, you guessed it, Oxford for a year. There, she meets the charming and clever professor Jamie (Corey Mylchreest), and the two begin a relationship that profoundly alters both their lives. There's a stellar team working on it, including BAFTA nominee Iain Morris, best known for working on comedy The Inbetweeners. 'Comedy is his language,' says lead actress Carson, 'so his vision of this film beautifully created a timeless, heartbreaking, sweeping romance, grounded in laughter.' Wednesday Season 2 (Release date: 6th August) Almost three years after the first season became Netflix's most-watched show ever, Jenna Ortega returns as Wednesday Addams prepares for another term at Nevermore Academy. This time, Wednesday must navigate family, friends and old adversaries, armed with her signature wit and deadpan charm. Catherine Zeta-Jones, Emma Myers and Hunter Doohan reprise their roles, and new cast additions include Billie Piper. Don't worry: Thing is back, too. Love Is Blind UK Season 2 (Release date: 13th August) Hosts Emma and Matt Willis are back for a second season of Love Is Blind UK, a less-conventional approach to modern love in which strangers date and hopefully get engaged without laying eyes on each other. Over several weeks, the new couples will move in together, plan their wedding and find out if their physical connection matches their emotional bond developed in the Pods. Will any of them make it to the altar and say 'I do'? Night Always Comes (Release date: 15th August) Thriller fans rejoice, as director Benjamin Caron returns with a visceral nail-biter starring Emmy and Oscar nominee Vanessa Kirby. The movie centres on the occasionally reckless Lynette (Kirby) over the course of one stressful evening as she tries to save her family's home before time runs out. 'What drew me to the film was its exploration of survival and sacrifice and the idea of quiet heroism,' Caron told Netflix. 'It asks the question, 'Who gets to feel safe, and at what cost?'' The Truth About Jussie Smollett (Release date: 22nd August) The team behind Don't F*** with Cats and Tinder Swindler return with this deep dive into Jussie Smollett, the Empire actor who claimed to have been a victim of a hate crime but was later accused of (and briefly jailed for) staging the attack. Featuring interviews with police, lawyers, journalists, investigators and Smollett himself, the 90-minute documentary lets the audience decide for themselves who's telling the truth, and whether Smollett is the criminal he was convicted of being. My Life With the Walter Boys (Release date: 28th August) Love The Summer I Turned Pretty? This Netflix original series follows another familial love triangle, as 15-year-old Manhattanite Jackie Howard (Nikki Rodriguez) learns to adapt to a new rural life with her guardian and eight rowdy boys. In the second series, Jackie returns to Colorado after a summer in New York, only to find that rekindling things with Alex (Ashby Gentry) and Cole (Noah LaLonde) won't be as easy as she'd imagined. The Thursday Murder Club (Release date: 28th August) It's finally arriving: the star-studded adaptation of Richard Osman's bestselling novel follows four irrepressible retirees – played by Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie – who solve cold case murders for fun. When an unexplained death occurs on their own doorstep, their casual sleuthing takes a thrilling turn as they find themselves with a real whodunit on their hands.

Sofia Carson dons Lebanese design on press tour

DUBAI: Sofia Carson is continuing her streak of ensembles by Lebanese designer Elie Saab while promoting her latest project, 'My Oxford Year,' set to hit Netflix on August 1. For the latest updates, follow us on Instagram @ Carson showed off a belted black blouse by the designer in New York this week, and she completed the outfit with a nude pencil skirt and black leather gloves. The actress and singer is known for her affinity for Lebanese labels, and previously showed off a look by Saab in March while promoting Netflix film 'The Life List.' Carson arrived at the 'CBS Mornings' show in New York City as part of that press tour wearing a green dress from Elie Saab's Ready-to-Wear Fall/Winter 2023-2024 collection. She also showed off several looks by the Lebanese designer during Netflix festivities in June. Ahead of Netflix Tudum 2025: The Live Event — the streaming platform's celebration of global fandom and storytelling — Carson appeared in a white ensemble featuring a tailored blazer, wide-leg trousers and a matching shirt. On a separate occasion, she wore an all-black outfit composed of wide-leg trousers and a sheer top with cape-like sleeves. Both outfits were from Saab's Ready-to-Wear Pre-Fall 2025 collection. A post shared by Sofia Carson (@sofiacarson) Carson's latest film sees her star opposite Corey Mylchreest in 'My Oxford Year,' a romance written by Allison Burnett and Melissa Osborne and directed by BAFTA nominee Iain Morris. T 'Iain Morris wrote and created one of the most iconic shows in British television, 'The Inbetweeners',' Carson, who also executive produces the movie — her second production credit following 2022's Purple Hearts — told a Netflix blog. 'Comedy is his language, so his vision of this film beautifully created a timeless, heartbreaking, sweeping romance, grounded in laughter. Within one scene you may fall madly in love, you may cry, but he will always make sure the joy of laughter is present.' The upcoming film is, as the title suggests, set in the university town of Oxford in the UK. 'When Anna (Carson), an ambitious young American woman, sets out for the UK and the University of Oxford to fulfill a childhood dream, she's got her life completely on track. That is, until she meets a charming and clever local Jamie (Mylchreest) who profoundly alters both of their lives,' the film's logline reads.

Here's what's new on Netflix in August 2025: 12 best movies and shows to watch

It's officially the dog days of summer, so it's appropriate that one of the highlight titles coming to Netflix in August is about a pottymouthed animated canine. Fixed is one of two new adult cartoons on the slate, the second being the new series from BoJack Horseman creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg. There are also two new true crime docs – although one might qualify as a 'true' crime doc – along with a comedy about true-crime obsession, plus political thrillers, crime thrillers, young-adult romcoms and 10-part documentary on the Dallas Cowboys. The biggest premiere, though? The release of the second season of the smash hit Addams Family spinoff, Wednesday. Man, Halloween comes earlier every year, doesn't it? My Oxford Year Netflix has really cornered the market on shows about young American women travelling to Europe to find love. In this one, a student at Oxford (Sofia Carson) falls for a handsome red flag (Corey Mylchreest). But what happens when it's time for her to return to New York? Tears, we assume. Premieres Aug 1 Wednesday season 2 Jenna Ortega returns as the sullen Goth teen turned amateur sleuth in the second season of the megahit Addams Family spinoff. The first batch drops in August, with the second half coming in September. The big question: will she dance again? Premieres Aug 6 Fixed An all-star comic voice cast, including Adam DeVine, Fred Armisen, Kathryn Hahn, Bobby Moynihan and Idris Elba, come together for Sony's first dalliance with 'adult animation', a raunchy comedy about a dog's last night out before getting neutered. The hand-drawn animation is very Ren and Stimpy -coded, so expect to spend a lot of time staring at the parts of the canine anatomy you usually try to avoid. Premieres Aug 13 Night Always Comes Fantastic Four 's Vanessa Kirby stars in this adaptation of author-musician Willy Vlautin's 2021 thriller novel. A young woman in Portland, Oregon, has only one night to raise $25,000 to save her mother (Jennifer Jason Leigh) from eviction, forcing her deep into the city's seedy underbelly. Premieres Aug 15 America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys Never mind that they haven't been to a Super Bowl in almost 30 years, the Dallas Cowboys are still America's team, we swear! This 10-episode docuseries shows how they earned that title. Premieres Aug 19 Hostage A totally different kind of movie about heads of state than the one Prime recently gave us, in this European political thriller, the French President and the British Prime Minister are forced to put aside their political differences after the latter's husband is kidnapped – and the ransom is her resignation. Premieres Aug 21 Long Story Short A decade after BoJack Horseman, Raphael Bob-Waksberg returns to Netflix with another series using the language of cartoons to explore adult themes – in this case, bouncing across timelines to explore the relationship between three siblings and their parents. Abbi Jacobson, Dave Franco, Max Greenfield and Nicole Byer lend their voices. Premieres Aug 22 The Truth About Jussie Smollett? Remember Jussie Smollett? If you're a Fox News cultist, you're probably still obsessed with the actor's hate crime that wasn't, even though it seemingly took place two decades ago. (It was 2019.) The team behind The Tinder Swindler and Don't F**k with Cats put together this doc on the whole strange ordeal – which includes an interview with Smollett himself. Premieres Aug 22 My Life with the Walter Boys season 2 Call it Dawson's Ranch – or maybe Yellowstone Babies. After losing her parents in a car accident, a teenager from New York is taken in by a family in rural Colorado consisting of seven hunky sons (and one daughter). Season 2 looks to introduce even more hunks. Premieres Aug 28 The Thursday Murder Club Senior-citizen sleuths are so hot right now. Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan and Ben Kingsley are septuagenarians spending retirement solving cold cases. Meta-commentaries on culture's true-crime obsession are getting a bit, well, old, but you can't argue with that cast. Premieres Aug 28 Unknown Number: The High School Catfish Skye Borgman, director of standout Netflix true-crime docs Girl in the Picture and Abducted in Plain Sight, looks into another bizarre case, this time involving a teen couple besieged by harassing text messages from an unknown caller. Premieres Aug 29 Everything New Coming to Netflix in August 2025 Available Aug 1: My Oxford Year American Pie American Pie 2 Anaconda Clueless Dazed and Confused The Departed Despicable Me Despicable Me 2 Fast Times at Ridgemont High Fire Country: Season 2 Groundhog Day Journey 2: The Mysterious Island Journey to the Center of the Earth Jurassic Park The Lost World: Jurassic Park Jurassic Park III Megamind Minions Pawn Stars: Season 16 Rush Hour Rush Hour 2 Rush Hour 3 Thirteen Weird Science Wet Hot American Summer Wyatt Earp Available August 2: Beyond the Bar Available August 5: Love Life: Seasons 1-2 SEC Football: Any Given Saturday Available August 6: Wednesday: Season 2 Part 1 Available August 8: Stolen: Heist of the Century Available August 10: Marry Me Available August 11: Outlander: Season 7 Part 1 Sullivan's Crossing: Season 3 Available August 12: Final Draft Jim Jefferies: Two Limb Policy Love Is Blind: UK: Season 2 Fixed Saare Jahan Se Accha: The Silent Guardians Songs From the Hole Young Millionaires Available August 14: In the Mud Miss Governor: Season 1 Part 2 Mononoke The Movie: Chapter II - The Ashes of Rage Quantum Leap: Seasons 1-2 Available August 15: The Echoes of Survivors: Inside Korea's Tragedies Fit for TV: The Reality of the Biggest Loser Night Always Comes Available August 16: The Fast and the Furious 2 Fast 2 Furious The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift Fast Five Fast & Furious 6 Furious 7 Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw Available August 18: CoComelon Lane: Season 5 Extant: Seasons 1-2 Available August 19: America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys Available August 20: Fisk: Season 3 Rivers of Fate Available August 21: Death Inc.: Season 3 Fall for Me Gold Rush Gang Hostage One Hit Wonder Available August 22: Abandoned Man Long Story Short The Truth About Jussie Smollett? Netflix adds Inbetweeners writer's 'timeless' romance 'grounded in laughter' this week

The Netflix film is a must-watch for fans of romantic comedies. Netflix is set to drop a "timeless romance" that will be "grounded in laughter", and fans don't have long left to wait. ‌ My Oxford Year is a brand new romance which is directed by BAFTA nominee Iain Morris, known for his work on the Inbetweeners. Based on the novel by Julia Whelan, fans can expect to laugh and cry as it follows Anna (Sofia Carson), an ambitious young American woman who sets out for the UK. ‌ Fulfilling her childhood dream, Anna has her life on track, until she meets local Jamie (Corey Mylchreest) who completely changes both of their lives. A Netflix synopsis reads: "An ambitious American fulfilling her dream of studying at Oxford falls for a charming Brit hiding a secret that may upend her perfectly planned life." ‌ Star Sofia Carson, who is also executive producer for the film, has teased fans with what they can expect. She added: "Iain Morris wrote and created one of the most iconic shows in British television, The Inbetweeners. "Comedy is his language, so his vision of this film beautifully created a timeless, heartbreaking, sweeping romance, grounded in laughter. Within one scene you may fall madly in love, you may cry, but he will always make sure the joy of laughter is present." ‌ According to Netflix's Tudum, Carson knew she'd found the Jamie to her Anna from the start, admitting she watched Queen Charlotte in awe. The star said: "When it came time to cast Jamie, I always knew it would be Corey." ‌ Bridgerton's Queen Charlotte star Corey also teased fans with plenty of tears and laughter as he said: "You can expect some laughs, a lot of love, maybe some sadness, a couple of surprises along the way, but [you can expect] to meet two really lovely, very human characters and all of their amazing friends and family. Get ready for a lovely journey." As well as Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest (known for his role in Bridgerton's Queen Charlotte), fans will also see Dougray Scott (Hitman) as William Davenport and Catherine McCormack (Braveheart) as Antonia Davenport. Harry Trevaldwyn (How To Train Your Dragon) will also play Charlie Butler and Esmé Kingdom (Fallen) as Maggie Timbs. And fans cannot wait. Taking to social media, one person said: "Whoosh! Love it." Another added: "Can't wait to see my queen again." A third echoed: "So excited, can't wait." My Oxford Year is available to stream on Netflix on August 1.
