Congratulations Pouring In For Patrick Mahomes On Monday

Congratulations Pouring In For Patrick Mahomes On Monday originally appeared on The Spun. Congratulations are pouring in for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes on Monday. The 2024 NFL season was a tough one for Mahomes. He lost the NFL's MVP award to another quarterback, Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills. He lost the Super Bowl, 40-22, to Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles. And heading into the 2025 season, some believe that he's no longer the best quarterback in the league. Advertisement But on Monday, ESPN released its list of the 10 best quarterbacks in the league, heading into the 2025 regular season. Where does Patrick Mahomes come in? NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA - FEBRUARY 09: Patrick Mahomes #15 of the Kansas City Chiefs looks on during warmups prior to Super Bowl LIX against the Philadelphia Eagles at Caesars Superdome on February 09, 2025 in New Orleans, Louisiana. (Photo by)Mahomes has been ranked the No. 1 quarterback in the league, once again, by ESPN heading into the 2025 season. "Mahomes' grip on the top spot is loosening slightly. After dominating the voting with back-to-back No. 1 rankings in convincing fashion, Mahomes garnered around 60% of the first-place votes this year, which is still impressive but well short of last year, when he received all but one first-place vote," ESPN wrote. "He has finished eighth in QBR the past two years; from 2018 through 2022, he finished first or second four times. Rarely does Mahomes look as frazzled as he did vs. Philadelphia in Super Bowl LIV." Advertisement It's another major honor for Mahomes. "The national narrative about Mahomes has really shifted to where they are pretending the other top QBs are in his stratosphere 🤦🏽‍♂️. Whatever drives clicks and views, I guess," one fan wrote. "Mahomes gets the most calls, which is an advantage, still the gold standard for throwing off-platform," one fan added. "There's a clear and obvious Big Four in the NFL right now and I think you can defend putting the three outside of Mahomes (Allen, Jackson, Burrow) in any order. Dropping any of them outside 4—someone had Lamar at 6!—is silly, though," ESPN's Mina Kimes added. Where would you rank Mahomes heading into the 2025 NFL regular season? Ravens' Secondary Questioned by Analyst

Ravens' Secondary Questioned by Analyst originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Baltimore Ravens believe they're in a Super Bowl window right now, and general manager Eric DeCosta tried to fill perceived roster holes in this year's draft and in free agency. Advertisement Baltimore added cornerbacks Chidobe Awuzie and Jaire Alexander in free agency and drafted safety Malaki Starks in the first round and corner Bilhal Kone in the sixth. Add that bunch to second-year cornerback Nate Wiggins and veterans Marlon Humphrey and Kyle Hamilton in the secondary, and you have one of the best in the league. But Bleacher Report's Alex Ballentine wonders if it's enough to put the team over the top in the AFC. "There's no way around it. Anything less than a Super Bowl is going to feel like a disappointment in Baltimore. Lamar Jackson is squarely in his prime," Ballentine wrote. "Derrick Henry continues to prove he can defy the laws of NFL aging. The Ravens are likely to have one of the league's most unique and dynamic offenses once again. That leaves it up to the defense to set the ceiling for this squad. Last year, their cornerback depth was tested and failed. This year, they signed Jaire Alexander and Chidobe Awuzie. The veterans will join second-year players Nate Wiggins and TJ Tampa as candidates to play with Marlon Humphrey. Advertisement "Finding success in the AFC playoffs means beating the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and Joe Burrow. As good as Jackson is, the secondary has to be able to hold up their end of the bargain." NY Giants' Russell Wilson Lands Comparison to NFC East Rival

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. On Monday morning, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler revealed the results of anonymous NFL executives, coaches, and scouts voting on the league's top 10 quarterbacks. Unsurprisingly, the New York Giants did not have a representative on the list. However, Russell Wilson still landed a mention. Sitting at No. 9 on the list is one of Wilson's new rivals, Jalen Hurts. The most recent Super Bowl Champion was reportedly linked to Wilson based on the opinion of "more than a few" anonymous voters. Per Fowler, they see "shaes" of Wilson in Hurts. "More than a few voters see shades of a Russell Wilson career arc," Fowler explained. "Hurts has many traits that contribute to winning at a high level, but needs a steady running game around him and wouldn't necessarily thrive in a pass-heavy system." Russell Wilson #3 of the Pittsburgh Steelers looks to pass in the second quarter of a game against the Baltimore Ravens at Acrisure Stadium on November 17, 2024 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Russell Wilson #3 of the Pittsburgh Steelers looks to pass in the second quarter of a game against the Baltimore Ravens at Acrisure Stadium on November 17, 2024 in Pittsburgh, Wilson's years with the Seattle Seahawks, he was consistently among the top quarterbacks in the game. Not only was he a dual-threat, but the Seahawks had one of the more notable rushers in their backfield with Marshawn Lynch. The comparison is understandable, but also loose. From the time he entered the NFL as a rookie third-rounder to his final season in Seattle, Wilson averaged nearly 475 passing attempts per season. Through Hurts' first five years in the NFL, he exceeded that total just once. When Hurts was tasked with nearly 540 passing attempts throughout the 2023 NFL season, he turned the ball over at a career-high rate. The veteran quarterback ended up throwing 15 interceptions while tossing 23 touchdowns. Hurts finished the 2023 season with 3,858 yards. In 2024, the Eagles added the Giants' former star rusher, Saquon Barkley. The presence of Barkley changed the Eagles' offensive approach. As the veteran running back took on 345 carries, more than ever did in a Giants uniform, the star running back totaled over 2,000 yards on the ground. As the executives suggest, a stronger run game around Hurts helped the Eagles find the highest level of success in the NFL as they won the Super Bowl in 2025. When it comes to Wilson, the Giants are the ones banking on him to be successful these days. With Seattle, Denver, and Pittsburgh in the rearview, it feels like New York will be Wilson's final chance to prove he's a starter in the NFL. The 36-year-old has struggled to find the same rhythm he once had with the Seahawks. Matching him up with the young stud, Malik Nabers, the Giants hope that Wilson's career keeps on a successful path as they would like to compete with Hurts and the rest of the NFC East. Puka Nacua feels like 'a kid in the candy store' learning from Davante Adams

With Tutu Atwell re-signed and Adams now in the fold, Nacua sees big things ahead. Two seasons ago, Puka Nacua entered the league as a fifth-round pick and taking him under his wing was former Los Angeles Rams great Cooper Kupp. Fast forward two seasons and multiple records later, with Kupp now in Seattle, Nacua – despite already being one of the league's brightest stars – is thrilled to be embracing the role of student again while playing alongside his new mentor, Davante Adams. 'It's definitely gonna be different,' Nacua said during an appearance on The Insiders this week. 'Davante, as soon as he stepped into the facility, has been fantastic. The ability to learn the game from another all-time great, I feel like I'm stealing. I'm like a kid in the candy store.' Every young receiver dreams of not only playing opposite elite counterparts but also having one of the league's top arms. Having brilliant football minds to help pave the way for what is set up to become one of the most exciting passing attacks that fans will be treated to this season helps, too. 'I've had Matthew Stafford, Sean McVay, Cooper Kupp, and now Davante Adams. My life is pretty good, I can't complain too much,' he added. The Rams' receiver room is going through a quiet transformation. Tutu Atwell was re-signed for his speed earlier this offseason, and the front office added Adams, a future Hall of Famer and one of the league's premier route technicians, to guide a rising offense. It's a blend of explosiveness, precision, and mentorship that's already having a big impact on Nacua. Nacua said 'route running" when asked what's jumped out about Adams. 'His ability to change pace while he's moving on the football field, the ability to win against negative leverage, his suddenness at the line of scrimmage, it's fantastic to see. And to be able to see it in person and be lining up right next to him, it makes sure you have all the gas turned on when you're going out there with No. 17.' That 'gas' and the hunger to learn are what's kept Nacua rising. Even with 2,476 yards and nine touchdowns under his belt in 28 games, he's still wide-eyed when he walks onto the practice field. Not just because of the talent around him, but because of who's also throwing the ball. 'I can't wait to see the guys,' Nacua said. 'I just want to see Matthew Stafford spin it. That's my favorite part of the day. As soon as that first practice comes out and you see that ball spinning right, I'm like, ah, things will be well in the world.' With training camp just around the corner, expectations are building again in Los Angeles, and for good reason. The Rams have star power, leadership, and momentum that had them just two wins away from a Super Bowl appearance last season. And with Nacua still playing sponge, soaking up every ounce of wisdom from the veterans around him, this offense might be just getting started.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson Walks Back Harsh Comments Toward Eagles

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Former Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson has been sent packing by Philadelphia twice in three years. The pain hasn't gotten any easier to deal with. "When I got traded [to the Texans], I was in shock," Gardner-Johnson said on a recent episode of The Pivot Podcast. "I told [Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans] I couldn't come into the building because I was confused. I didn't know who to turn to." 'My son said, so we can't wear green anymore? And that killed me.' C.J. Gardner-Johnson- Super Bowl Champion Super Bowl Champion is what he wants to be known as by the world and especially around the league, and now @CGJXXIII is opening up on how it hasn't been the case as his… — Ryan Clark (@Realrclark25) July 15, 2025 The Eagles traded Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans in March, one month after he helped them win a Super Bowl title. General Manager Howie Roseman cited financial flexibility as the reason behind the trade. "Chauncey did a great job for us in both the years that he was with us, obviously making the Super Bowl twice in two years with him as our starting safety," Roseman said at the NFL annual meetings. "When you look at our team and you look at the amount of highly paid players who have earned their contracts, we've got eight guys who are making $15 million or more. "We have, from 2022 to 2024 drafts, we have eight starters who are on the Super Bowl team. None of those guys have long-term contracts. In those drafts, we probably have five or six players who will be competing for starting jobs. So you have a lot of players coming through that aren't under long-term contracts, plus a lot of guys who are on long-term contracts, and we never want to be in a situation where we have one year where we're getting rid of 20 guys." Still, Gardner-Johnson said the defense would be worse off without him on an Instagram Live session in June. "The Eagles probably won't see a ring without me. Y'all saw what happened when I left. I'm popping now, I'm glad I'm in Texas." After Gardner-Johnson left the team in 2023, Philadelphia's defense suffered a catastrophic decline. CJ Gardner Johnson has nothing but love for the Eagles and his former teammates, apologizing for emotionally saying the Eagles won't win another ring without him. 'I got nothing against them. If they win six more rings without me, they deserve it.' 🤝 — SPORTSRADIO 94WIP (@SportsRadioWIP) July 15, 2025 In two seasons with the Eagles, Gardner-Johnson recorded 126 tackles, 20 pass breakups, and 12 interceptions. He brought a much-needed edge to a defense that needed intensity, and that energy catapulted Philadelphia to another championship. With the drama now behind him, Gardner-Johnson can focus on making an impact with the Texans. For more Philadelphia Eagles and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports
