2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X first to top $200,000
General Motors' ZR1X isn't just the world's most powerful Corvette — it's also the first priced above $200,000. The Detroit automaker revealed pricing for the 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X, the sister to the ZR1, on Aug. 6, and it's the most expensive production Corvette. The 1,250-horsepower vehicle sets a record for the automaker thanks to a dual powertrain system. The back wheels are powered by a twin-turbocharged 5.5 L V8 engine that generates 828 pound-feet of torque while a 145 pound-foot battery sends power to the front axle electric motor. The 2026 Corvette ZR1X coupe starts at $207,395 for the 1LZ coupe and $217,395 for the 1LZ convertible, with both prices inclusive of a $1,995 delivery charge. The cost leapfrogs the previous most-expensive Corvette, the 2025 ZR1 which started at $174,995, itself a steep jump from the 2019 Corvette ZR1, which started at $121,000. The ZR1X will be available by the end of 2025 after assembly at Bowling Green Assembly Plant in Kentucky. (An earlier version of this story misstated the pound-feet of torque the Corvette engine generates. The story has been corrected.) Jackie Charniga covers General Motors for the Free Press. Chevy Just Set An Insane EV Range Record-In A Big Truck
It's been a record-breaking month for Chevrolet. Already, the company set a new record for American cars at the Nürburgring with the Corvette ZR1 and ZR1X. Its latest record won't be as exciting for gearheads, as it involves the longest range on a full charge for an EV, but it's another stellar technical achievement. 300 miles is generally accepted as the psychological mark of a useful EV range, but Lucid far surpassed this by hitting 749 miles in the Air sedan last month-a record at the time. Chevy has now crushed that figure, and even more impressively, it pulled off the feat with a heavy, full-size pickup, not an aerodynamic sedan. Related: Chevy Reveals Pricing for "Ultimate" ZR1X Corvette, Reveals Limited Special Edition The record-breaking achievement came behind the wheel of a 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV Max Range Work Truck, which went 1,059.2 miles on a full charge, breaking Lucid's 749-mile record. This truck is rated by the EPA for a 493 mile range, so how was it able to more than double that figure? GM says the record attempt began with a casual conversation between GM engineers late last year. They started guessing what sort of range they could achieve if the pickup could be optimized for range and efficiency. "Getting this kind of range on a full charge doesn't happen by accident," said Kurt Kelty, VP, battery, propulsion, and sustainability. "It takes deep integration across battery chemistry, drive unit efficiency, software and vehicle engineering-and that's exactly what the team delivered. This achievement is a great example of how far our EV technology has come, and the kind of innovation we're building on every day at GM." Related: 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV First Drive Review: Go to work The GM team performed the record-breaking test on public roads in southeastern Michigan, close to GM's Milford Proving Ground. The team optimized every feasible aspect of the truck, but left the hardware and software as is. While it's technically possible for owners of the truck to put some of these optimizing measures in place, combining them all will be just about impossible in normal driving. These were the measures taken by the team: When conditions allowed, drivers averaged 20 to 25 mph, and hard braking was minimizedNo passengers were in the truck for most of the testWindshield wiper arms were set to the lowest possible position, reducing dragThe highest acceptable tire pressure was used, resulting in lower rolling resistanceThe wheel alignment was optimized and the spare tire was removedThe climate control wasn't used at allFor smoother airflow, an accessory tonneau cover was addedThe test occurred in warmer summer conditions None of these measures are particularly groundbreaking, but the cumulative effect clearly made all the difference. The various engineers who drove the truck did so in one-hour shifts, allowing them to incorporate the project into their normal work schedules. "If we drove it downhill the whole time, sure, we'd get insane mileage," said Jon Doremus, propulsion calibration engineering manager. "But that's not what this was about. We wanted this to be real, on public roads." The test suggests that by incorporating just a few of these measures, owners of this Chevy pickup should easily be able to squeeze over 500 miles of range from it, a commendable effort. The EPA rating of the Chevy is already better than all other rivals, including the Rivian R1T, Tesla Cybertruck, and Ford F-150 Lightning. Hypercar, hyper-price: Corvette ZR1X brings the thunder for over $200k
The Chevy Corvette ZR1X hypercar is all about the numbers. Zero-to-60 in less than two seconds, 233 mph top speed, 1,250 horsepower, 6.49.3-minute lap time around the 12.9-mile Nürburgring circuit in Germany. Now we know the number that will allow you access to those performance numbers. The ZR1X will start at $207,395 for the standard 1LZ coupe, making it the first Corvette to list at over 200 grand. A special edition Quail Silver Limited Edition will launch at $241,395 and be previewed at the Quail Motorsports Gathering in California on Friday, Aug. 15. The all-wheel-drive, hybrid-electric ZR1X and its sister, rear-wheel-drive, 1,064-horsepower ZR1 are the top-drawer models of an eighth-generation Corvette lineup that begins with the 495-horsepower, 6.2-liter V8-powered Corvette Stingray priced at $70,195. Two other models are available: the road-focused, hybrid E-Ray at $108,795 and the track-focused Z06 stuffed with the C8.R race-car's high-revving, 5.5-liter V-8 starting at $116,995. The ZR1X's nosebleed price is still a fraction of comparable European hyper exotics like the $3.7 million, 1,184-horsepower Ferrari F80 and $2.1 million, 1,258-horsepower McLaren W1 - not to mention the $2.7 million Mercedes AMG One hypercar that owns the Nürburgring lap record at 6.29.0 minutes. It is also about $120k cheaper than Ford's Mustang GTD supercar, which starts at $327,960 (the Mustang ran the Nürburgring in 6.52.1 minutes). In this supercar age of insane numbers, hypercar is defined as an all-wheel-drive sportscar making in excess of 1,000 horses. The ZR1X's Nürburgring time, set by Corvette engineer Drew Cattell, is the fastest lap produced by an American-made auto and the fastest lap recorded by a non-pro driver. Other ZR1X model pricing includes $217,395 for the 1LZ hardtop convertible. The ZR1X 3LZ coupe will start with an MSRP of $218,395 for the 3LZ coupe, and the 3LZ convertible at $228,395. In an indication of the ZR1X's play for exotic car buyers, the Quail Silver Limited Edition will be shown at the exclusive Quail Lodge & Golf Club in Carmel, California during Monterey Car Week on Friday, Aug. 15 - a long way from the next day's Woodward Dream Cruise, where hundreds of Corvette owners will cruise Motown's main street. The McLaren W1 hypercar is also making its debut at Monterey Car Week. The Quail Silver Limited Edition - exclusively available on the ZR1X 3LZ convertible - is a showcase for material finery including Blade Silver Matte, Corvette's first production matte finish since the 1960s. The color was inspired by the first-generation, 1957-59 Corvette's Inca Silver paint color. "Corvettes are the pride and joy of their owners - they honor its craftmanship and design as much as its engineering excellence," said Scott Bell, vice president of Global Chevrolet. "The ZR1X Quail Silver Limited Edition presents a highly exclusive option for Corvette customers looking for a collectible item." A "Limited Edition" plaque is included along the interior waterfall speaker, complete with build number. The interior is dressed in what Chevy calls Sky Cool & Medium Ash Gray with Habanero accents - a new color scheme available for all 2026 Corvette models. Other Quail Edition highlights include orange brake calipers, black exhaust tips and carbon-black mirrors. Under the skin, the limited-edition model shares the same steroid-fed drivetrain as other ZR1X models. The hypercar is essentially a combination of the technologies found on other C8 'Vettes: all-wheel-drive and front electric motor from the E-Ray; 5.5-liter, dual-overhead-cam engine from the Z06 amidships; twin-turbochargers like the ZR1; updated 2026 interior with more efficient, high-tech console. The result is a stratospheric 1,250 horsepower and neck-snapping acceleration for occupants coddled by a luxury interior. Production of the hypercar begins later this year at Corvette's assembly plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Copyright (C) 2025, Tribune Content Agency, LLC. The Corvette ZR1X Is An Absolute Bargain
When Chevrolet debuted the C8 Corvette in 2020, the automaker loudly and proudly promoted its sub-$60,000 starting price. It was a genuinely impressive number at the time, given that most other mid-engined cars of the day neared six figures. Sadly, the budget C8 is long gone; a base Corvette now costs nearly $80,000. Even still, the Corvette is a relative performance bargain, especially when you start getting higher up in the range. Case in point: The new ZR1X . The 2026 Corvette ZR1X costs $207,395 with destination included. Sure, that's still a boatload of money—and about $30,000 more than the standard ZR1. But when you remember you're getting 1,250 horsepower, 878 pound-feet of torque, and a top speed of 233 miles per hour for less than the cost of the cheapest Ferrari, it starts to make sense. Chevy is quick to point out that the ZR1X is dramatically cheaper than multi-million-dollar hybrid hypercars like the 1,184-hp Ferrari F80 ($3.7 million) and the 1,258-hp McLaren W1 ($2.1 million). It's significantly cheaper still than the $608,000 Lamborghini Revuelto. Hell, the Corvette even undercuts a comparable hybrid supercar, the Lamborghini Temerario, which costs $390,000 out of the box. And it's more than $100,000 cheaper than the Ford Mustang GTD—its nemesis on the Nurburgring . Model Base Price Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X $207,395 Ford Mustang GTD $327,960 Lamborghini Temerario $390,000 Lamborghini Revuelto $608,000 McLaren W1 $2.1 Million Ferrari F80 $3.7 Million That $207,000 base price is for the standard ZR1X coupe. If you want the convertible, the drop-top ZR1X starts at $217,395. Move up to the 3ZL trim line, which adds a handful of unspecified niceties, and the ZR1X 3LZ coupe costs $218,395, while the 3LZ convertible costs $228,395. But wait, there's more. Chevy is introducing a special Corvette ZR1X Quail Silver Limited Edition in honor of The Quail supercar show in Monterey later this month. That version starts at $241,395 before delivery fees, and is exclusive to the 3LZ convertible model. Photo by: Chevrolet Photo by: Chevrolet Photo by: Chevrolet The ZR1X Quail Silver Edition sports painted brake calipers, a custom interior finished in Sky Cool and Medium Ash Gray with Habanero accents, and a special Blade Silver Matte paint job inspired by the Inca Silver on the original C1 Corvette that the company is especially proud of: 'The Design team is always looking to innovate, and the Blade Silver Matte paint color marks a significant moment for Corvette as the first factory matte paint in 60 years. This new finish creates a distinctly high-end feel and offers a rare chance to own a truly unique expression of Corvette.' — Phil Zak, Executive Design Director of Global Chevrolet Chevy also offers the ZTK Performance Package on the Quail Silver Edition, which includes higher spring rates, modified chassis control calibrations, a carbon-fiber aero package, and Michelin Pilot Cup 2R tires. Chevrolet doesn't say how many ZR1X Quail Silver Limited Edition cars it plans to produce, but it will be extremely limited. It debuts at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, on August 15.
