Corvette ZR1X vs. Stingray, E-Ray, Z06 and ZR1: How Do Chevy's Mid-Engine Sports Cars Stack Up?

Spot the differences Despite the massive range of power available across the quintet of C8 Corvettes, it can be tough to tell one from the next. Unless you have the wheel designs committed to memory (we don't), you might have to look for a badge to confirm precisely which level of American performance you're looking at. But there are some tells. The Stingray is the only non-widebody Corvette, and the trim around its side air intakes is sort of L-shaped. Stepping up to the E-Ray and beyond, the body is wider (those with sharp eyes can see a bit more plastic outboard of the headlights and taillights), and the air intake trim forms a pronounced Y. On the ZR1 and ZR1X, the leg of the Y has a second inlet for rear brake cooling. The Z06 with the aero package has a unique rear wing, while the massive spoiler available on both the ZR1 and ZR1X is hard to miss. The two ZR1 variants also have a deep-dish nose that sucks in even more cooling air at the expense of what is a frunk on other models. Look closely through the ZR1X's front wheels and you'll see 10-piston brake calipers wrapped around 16.5-inch carbon-ceramic discs, the largest ever offered on a 'Vette. Those will also be available on the ZR1, so you'll probably have to look for the big X on the badge aft of the doors to make one out from the other.

1,250-HP Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X Hybrid Runs The Quarter-Mile In Under 9 Seconds

The new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is only just now reaching dealerships in the U.S., but that twin-turbo monster is already being usurped by a new even-higher-performance version of the C8 Corvette. Long rumored to be called Zora, this new variant is actually dubbed ZR1X, and it takes the ZR1's powertrain and adds on a similar hybrid system to the one in the E-Ray for a truly ridiculous amount of power and speed. General Motors senior vice president Ken Morris says the C8's platform was designed from the start with the ZR1X's powertrain in mind — that's probably why we started hearing rumors about it before the C8 even debuted. With 1,250 horsepower and all-wheel drive, the hybrid ZR1X is quicker to 60 mph and in the quarter-mile than any roadgoing Corvette before it, and its on-track performance is sure to be just as impressive. The standard ZR1 will soon be setting an official Nürburgring lap time, and ZR1X prototypes have already been spotted at the 'Ring as well, with the Ford Mustang GTD directly in its sights. Read more: These Cars Are Police Magnets At the heart of the ZR1X is the same 5.5-liter LT7 V8 that's in the standard ZR1, which is essentially the Z06's flat-plane-crank motor with a pair of turbochargers attached. All of the LT7's 1,064 horsepower and 828 pound-feet of torque are sent to the ZR1X's rear wheels through an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Mounted at the front axle is an electric motor with 186 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque, an increase of 26 hp and 20 lb-ft over the E-Ray, with Chevy saying the ZR1X's motor has strengthened components but the same size and shape as the E-Ray's unit. The 1.9-kWh battery pack located in a central spine in the floor of the chassis has more usable energy and a higher peak operative voltage than the E-Ray's for better on-track capability. There's no physical connection between the V8 and the electric motor — the former only powers the rear wheels, while the latter only powers the fronts. The electric motor also automatically disconnects once you reach 160 mph, having done its main job of nearly knocking you out with acceleration force. Chevy says the ZR1X will hit 60 mph from launch in under 2 seconds where the ZR1 and E-Ray need 2.3 and 2.5 seconds, respectively, and it'll run the quarter-mile in under 9 seconds at over 150 mph, versus 9.6 seconds in the ZR1 and 10.5 seconds in the E-Ray. That will make the ZR1X easily one of the quickest-accelerating cars you can buy, even among the most powerful EVs. A Lucid Air Sapphire will cover a quarter of a mile in just over 9 seconds, while a Dodge Demon will do it in just under 9 seconds. The standard ZR1 will hit 233 mph, and the ZR1X matches that. Chevy says the ZR1X's eAWD system has "undergone a significant upgrade" compared to the E-Ray, both when it comes to on-road and on-track driving, and that it's constantly monitoring driver inputs to perfectly manage power delivery and traction. There are three different energy "strategies" for when on track, activated by a button on the steering wheel: Push-to-Pass for maximum power on demand, Qualifying for optimal lap times, and Endurance for longer lap sessions and consistent eAWD output. All 2026 Corvettes have a new PTM Pro setting for the traction management, which disables the traction and stability control systems, but in the ZR1X the regenerative braking torque vectoring remains on, as does the front axle pre-control that "actively manages inside front brake pressure to enable maximum corner-exit traction." Optional on the normal ZR1 but standard on the ZR1X is the J59 carbon-ceramic brake package, which has Chevy's largest rotors ever at 16.5 inches front and rear paired with 10-piston front calipers and 6-piston rear calipers. Chevy says it's the most resilient braking system ever tested by GM, and engineers saw 1.9G of deceleration from 180 to 120 mph. The standard touring-focused chassis setup uses magnetic ride control and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, but you can option a ZTK Performance package that has firmer springs and grippier Pilot Cup 2R tires. You'll be able to get the ZR1X in both coupe and convertible body styles, and it'll have the same updated interior design as other 2026 Corvettes, but sadly its exterior doesn't look any different from a normal ZR1, badges aside. Real nerds will be able to spot an extra intercooler in the front bumper. The ZR1X will be available with the same Carbon Aero package as other ZR1s, which adds a gigantic rear wing, dive planes on the front bumper, a gurney lip in front of the hood vent and underbody strakes that all combine to give you 1,200 pounds of downforce at top speed. Chevy isn't ready to talk money yet, but the ZR1X will surely command a hefty premium over the standard 2026 ZR1's $189,195 starting price. We don't know when it will go into production yet either, but it'll be built at the same Bowling Green, Kentucky, assembly plant as all other Corvettes, with the LT7 being hand-assembled there. Read the Full Story After years of anticipation, the ultimate Corvette is finally here. Say hello to the 2026 Corvette ZR1X. It takes the best parts of the already atomic ZR1, namely the 1064-hp LT7 twin-turbo V-8, and pairs it with an upgraded version of the Corvette E-Ray's front-mounted electric motor. It has a combined 1250 horsepower and a stat sheet that'll have you seeking shelter. Oh, and it'll be available by the end of the year. The 2026 Corvette ZR1X is the epitome of the C8-generation Corvette. It pairs the LT7 twin-turbocharged V-8 from the ZR1 with an upgraded version of the E-Ray's electric motor. The pairing gives the ZR1X all-wheel drive and combines to produce 1250 horsepower. Chevy claims the power and all-wheel traction are enough to rocket the ZR1X to 60 mph in under 2.0 seconds. It will also do the standing quarter-mile in under 9.0 seconds at a trap speed of more than 150 mph. The ZR1X can simultaneously pull 1.0 g of latitudinal and longitudinal force, according to Chevy. The ZR1X's interior offers a dual-tone color scheme where the driver's seat is red and the passenger's is black. It's the same interior you'll find on the rest of the 2026 Corvette range, which means the ZR1X gets Chevy's upgraded screen layout Full pricing hasn't yet been announced, but we're confident the new model will come in above the regular ZR1's $178,195 starting price. Chevy plans to launch the ZR1X by the end of 2025. 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X is a twin-turbo V8 hypercar delivering over 900kW

Chevrolet has taken the best bits of its existing Corvettes and enhanced them to make a wild 932kW electrified twin-turbo V8 hypercar that's claimed to blast to 60mph (96km/h) in under two seconds. The 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X combines the ZR1's 5.5-litre twin-turbocharged flat-plane crank V8 with a front-mounted electric motor like that seen in the E-Ray. This makes it the first ZR1-badged 'Vette with all-wheel drive. The hand-assembled V8 produces 793kW of power at 7000rpm and 1123Nm of torque at 6000rpm, while the electric motor produces 139kW and 197Nm. Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now. Total power is therefore up by 149kW over the ZR1, while its 0-60mph time is several tenths of a second quicker – the ZR1 does the dash in 2.3 seconds with its ZTK Performance Package, or 2.5 seconds without. Like other C8 Corvettes, the engine is mounted midship and is mated with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. We've contacted GM Australia and New Zealand to confirm if the ZR1X is coming here. We currently get all C8 Corvettes in factory right-hand drive bar the ZR1, which is only produced in left-hand drive. The ZR1X's V8 was developed alongside the naturally aspirated flat-plane crank engines powering the Z06 and Z06 GT3.R race car. It features dual 76mm turbochargers, while Chevrolet engineers have positioned the turbos as close to the exhaust valves as possible to decrease the time needed to build boost and therefore improve throttle response. Dynamic anti-lag controls will maintain turbo speed when off-throttle to ensure boost is "available rapidly" when throttle is reapplied. The ZR1X features a 1.9kWh battery like the E-Ray, also centralised within the spine of the chassis, but Chevrolet says it has expanded the amount of usable energy to provide greater lapping capability. The front drive unit has the same shape and size as that in the E-Ray, but engineers have strengthened the motor to generate an additional 19kW and 27Nm. It can apply power at up to 258km/h before disconnecting. There's no physical connection between the engine and the electric drive unit. Chevrolet says the eAWD chassis control system of the E-Ray has been upgraded for the ZR1X to match the more powerful engine. There are "specialised energy strategies" intended to maximise electrified output for track driving. Pressing the Charge+ button activates Endurance mode, adjusting the battery's energy storage strategy for extended lapping and consistent output, while there's also a Qualifying mode and a Push-to-Pass function to ensure maximum power is available on-demand. A new PTM Pro mode introduced for model year 2026 (MY26) Corvettes turns off traction and stability control but allows you to still use launch control, the regen brake torque vectoring function, and what's called Front Axle Pre-Control which actively manages inside front brake pressure to ensure maximum traction when exiting a corner. The ZR1's optional J59 braking package is standard on the ZR1X, bringing Alcon 10-piston front and six-piston rear calipers mated to 16.5-inch front and rear carbon-ceramic rotors with continuously woven carbon-fibre threads. Magnetic Ride Control is standard, as are Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres. The ZTK Performance Package brings Michelin Pilot Cup 2R tyres. An optional Carbon Aero package adds dive planes, underbody strakes, a hood gurney lip over the front heat extractor, and a sizeable rear wing. Altogether, this package brings a claimed 544kg of downforce. Like the rest of the C8 range, the ZR1X will be offered as either a coupe or convertible. It features the revised interior revealed in May that includes, among other changes, a larger 12.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 6.6-inch auxiliary touchscreen, a redesigned centre console, and repositioned switchgear. Chevrolet is calling the ZR1X the "ultimate expression" of its C8 Corvette, and an "all-day comfortable tourer, straight-line rocket, and racetrack weapon, all in one". It's unlikely there will be a more powerful variant to slot in above it. The ZR1X had been rumoured to wear the Zora name, after former Corvette chief engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov whose ashes were interred at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
