Carrie Underwood eyes Hollywood acting comeback amid long-rumored Taylor Swift rivalry

Country music star Carrie Underwood is reportedly planning a return to Hollywood acting, with sources noting the move may also reignite her long-rumored rivalry with pop superstar Taylor Swift. Industry insiders say Underwood, 42, is considering significant acting projects after her well-received cameo in the Netflix hit Cobra Kai in 2021. The speculation comes amid ongoing comparisons between the two artists. Swift's major film appearances — in 2019's Cats and 2022's Amsterdam — faced disappointing box office results, while Underwood's television performance was praised by fans and critics alike. According to sources, Underwood enjoyed her acting experience and sees potential for more prominent roles. 'She's spent time in Los Angeles through her work on American Idol and feels more confident navigating the acting scene now,' one insider shared. The singer has yet to confirm whether she will return as a judge on Idol next season, leaving open the possibility of focusing on acting. Rumors of a strained relationship between Underwood and Swift date back to Swift's transition from country to pop music, a move reportedly viewed by Underwood as a departure from country traditions. Political differences have also been highlighted: Swift publicly supported Vice President Kamala Harris, while Underwood performed America the Beautiful at former President Donald Trump's inauguration. While sources close to Swift downplay any feud, the two have occasionally exchanged subtle digs, including lighthearted comments at award shows. For now, Underwood's next career move may place her back in the Hollywood spotlight — and possibly back in the headlines alongside her longtime chart-topping counterpart.

What does the colour scheme of 'The Life of a Showgirl' symbolise? Taylor Swift fans mull over theories

Earlier today, Taylor Swift announced her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, following a carefully orchestrated midnight reveal. At exactly 12.12am Eastern Time on 12 August, her website switched to a glittering orange countdown before briefly crashing as fans rushed to see the update. A subtle yet striking detail of The Life of a Showgirl rollout — including outfits, countdown graphics, and the Empire State Building lit in orange— is Taylor Swift's use of a dual colour palette: vivid orange (copper-like) paired with mint green. In the announcement that took place on Travis kelce's New Hewights podcast, Swift also pulls her album out of briefcase decked out in these shades and now fans are speculating if theres a hidden theme behind the colour scheme. One theory shared on X suggests the palette echoes the transformation of copper as it oxidises into a turquoise patina, a visually arresting shift that occurs naturally over time as witnessned through the Statue of Liberty. The colour scheme is copper oxidizing because a showgirl is on a pedestal for the world and over time, in the public eye they lose their shine… the weathering from being the target for the world's misogyny. #TheLifeOfAShowgirl — kaitlyn ❤️‍🔥* (@fearlesskait) August 12, 2025 In this metaphor, the copper tone represents the showgirl's initial shine, bold, polished, and centre stage, while the mint hue signifies the slow fade that follows: exposure to the public eye, scrutiny, and even misogyny that 'weather' a performer's glow. A fan even connected this idea to lyrics in "Bad Blood": 'What was shiny? Now it's all rusted,' reinforcing the notion. Due to this theory fans believe the album will thematically focus on the experience of being "a female performer in a male-dominated industry", and will expand on the sentiments Swift has sung about in songs like " The Lucky One" and "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart". The copper-to-mint motif becomes an allegory for vulnerability and erosion under intense visibility, resonating with the showgirl metaphor in the album title. While Taylor Swift has not confirmed this symbolism, the duality of the palette aligns with her history of thoughtful visuals and layered eras.
