I am not sure how I first heard about Chanticleer Garden, which is in a suburb of Philadelphia with the prosaic name of Wayne. It's one of those gardener's gardens that you hear dropped into various podcasts or conversations. It has been called 'America's most inspiring garden' and I knew that when my husband, Ian, and I went to visit his cousin in Philly a few years ago, we just had to go via Wayne.
'Wayne?' queried Ian, and I had to admit that it didn't sound like a destination sort of place. As I drove the rental car through deep suburbia, even I began to doubt our mission. I almost punched the air when we found the entrance. It's one of those places: if you think you're lost, you're probably there.

Martha's Vineyard has been overrun with movie fans celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 'Jaws' film. The Steven Spielberg film debuted on June 20, 1975, and became a quick success in the film industry. It broke box office records and won three Oscars for best music, best film editing and best sound. The thriller takes place on the fictional Amity Island, which is based on Martha's Vineyard off the Massachusetts coast, and follows police chief Martin Brody, who works to hunt down the antagonist great white shark, with the help of others. Fifty years later, those who made 'Jaws' popular are flocking to Martha's Vineyard to celebrate the film, and the locals have a bunch of fun activities in store for them. Martha's Vineyard is already a popular tourist destination with as many as 200,000 visitors during the summer, USA TODAY reported, citing the local Chamber of Commerce. This weekend, officials expect tens of thousands more visitors than usual. Hotels are fully booked and Jaws fans are ready for a plethora of movie-themed events, including the film, a documentary about its production, a live performance of the movie's score and more, according to the Chamber of Commerce's Executive Director Erica Ashton and Deputy Director Alessandra Hagerty. 'There's like 'Jaws' mania, pretty much,' Hagerty told USA TODAY. Visitors can also attend parties with some of the 'Jaws' cast and crew, get 'Jaws'-themed merchandise at the local shops and restaurants, and attend a baseball game for the local Sharks team. Michael Currid, owner of Edgartown Tour Company, told USA TODAY that he's already had 'exponentially more' advance bookings for his 'Jaws' walking tour, where visitors can follow the path taken by police chief Brody in the film, than he has in 15 years. While the 'Jaws' anniversary has inspired some fun events that are sure to support Martha's Vineyard's tourism effort, it's also important to remember the essential role sharks play in the ecosystem and how to keep yourself safe in open waters. Great white sharks are the only natural predators of seals in the waters along Cape Cod, according to the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy. 'When apex predators are absent, food web dynamics can be disrupted - populations of prey species can grow unchecked and may in turn limit populations of their prey,' the conservancy wrote on its website. While sharks can be interesting to learn about, it's important to follow a few safety tips so you don't encounter them in the wild. The National Park Service says to be aware that sharks hunt for seals in shallow water and to stay close to the shore where rescuers can reach you. It's also important to limit splashing and avoid murky water, according to the service.

It feels like it's getting more and more expensive to go abroad, and many Brits are really feeling the pinch when it comes to their holidays. But there's a popular tourist hotspot where your pound will stretch further than anywhere else. Post Office Travel Money's Holiday Spending Report looked at how sterling is performing against its 30 bestselling currencies compared with 12 and three months ago. It reveals that visitors to Turkey from the UK will get the most for their money, due to the ongoing, long-term collapse of the Turkish lira. Over the past three months, the lira has fallen by 12.9 per cent against the pound. And, compared with last June, visitors can now expect to receive around £116 (+30.2 per cent) more when they buy £500 worth of lira. The report also reveals the sterling has bounced back against the US dollar and is currently 6.6 per cent stronger than it was a year ago, and has gained 4.9 per cent in the past three months. For £500, tourists will now receive almost £31 more of US dollars, than they would a year ago. Meanwhile, holidaymakers rated Spain (41 per cent), Turkey (35 per cent) and Thailand (31 per cent) best value for money out of 39 worldwide destinations. However, the report found the Thai baht was one of only five of the 30 bestselling currencies to rise in value against sterling. A sterling year-on-year fall of 5.2 per cent means that British visitors will get £27.64 fewer Thai baht on a typical £500 currency transaction. Given that almost half (48 per cent) of holidaymakers said they will choose their destination based on the strength of sterling, two other Far Eastern destinations – Vietnam and Bali - will actually offer Brits more for their money. Visitors to Vietnam will get the equivalent of £42.01 – or 9.2 per cent extra - on a £500 purchase of Vietnamese dong. Those choosing Bali, fourth-placed in the barometer, can expect around £33 (7.1 per cent) more in Indonesian rupiah than a year ago. Laura Plunkett, Head of Travel Money at Post Office, said: 'This year's holiday spending research again demonstrates that holidaymakers don't always set a realistic budget and overspend by large amounts as a result. 'It's great to hear that holidaymakers are already planning to budget more for their holidays this year, to avoid coming unstuck when they arrive at their destination.'
