Pop star Joe Jonas confesses to being 'chronically online'

Perth Now25-04-2025
Joe Jonas is "chronically online".
The 35-year-old pop star recently performed his new single, 'Heart by Heart', for a phone-free crowd in New York City, and Joe actually relished the experience.
He told People: "It's been a while - actually, the last time I performed with no phones, I honestly couldn't tell you.
"I went to the Masters this year, and you can't bring your phone, so that was nice. And I think, once you're away from your phone for even a few hours, you're panicked sometimes - at least I am. And then you get back, and you're like, 'Okay, I'm fine, the world is still revolving, everyone was fine.'"
Joe acknowledges that he spends an unhealthy amount of time online. However, he also relishes disconnecting himself from the outside world from time to time.
The Jonas Brothers star said: "I'm at fault of becoming somebody that's just in a death scroll ... This is a nice reminder to just be present with your friends and family. You can shut your phone off for a few hours and hang out."
Meanwhile, Joe previously admitted that he's been "reliving" his childhood through his children.
The chart-topping star - who has daughters Willa, four, and Delphine, two, with his ex-wife Sophie Turner - revealed that he's relishing the challenges of fatherhood, describing it as the "best feeling".
Speaking at a Miami Art Week event called The Wellness Oasis, Joe shared: "As a parent myself, I'm also reliving childhood again through my kids' eyes which is just the best feeling."
Joe is making a concerted effort to have "a lot of fun" as a parent.
The 'Cake by the Ocean' hitmaker - who was married to Sophie between 2019 and 2024 - explained: "I'm really making sure that I'm able to have a lot of fun.
"This is so amazing that we get the opportunity to be on this earth and do what we get to do. Whether it's enjoying your career, or hopefully on your way to enjoy your career, and you've got great friends and great people around you, I think really being able to tap into, hypothetically, what little Joe would really be into is having fun with whatever it is."

Music legend Paul Kelly announces death of beloved character Joe from iconic Christmas song How To Make Gravy

Australian singer-songwriter Paul Kelly has shocked fans with the death of one of the most famous characters from his hit song, How To Make Gravy. On Monday, the music legend posted a public notice in The Age newspaper declaring Joe, the convict cook and star of the hugely popular 1996 Aussie Christmas anthem, had died. The notice was also shared on Kelly's Instagram with the short caption: 'RIP, Joe.' 'With great sorrow, we announce the death of Joe by sudden misadventure. Much loved father, husband, brother, brother-in-law and uncle to Dan, Rita, Stella, Roger, Mary, Angus, Frank and Dolly,' the public notice said. 'We'll miss you badly, Joe. You loved life and went hard at it. 'You loved music, food, football, celebration, tall tales and strong argument. 'We can still see you cooking up a storm in the kitchen at our big family gatherings, pots and pans on the go, BBQ smoking outside, glass of wine in hand, your beloved reggae music on the stereo, Junior Murvin, Linton Kwesi Johnson, Gregory Isaac and the like. 'You filling up everybody's drinks and teasing the little ones. 'Christmas just won't be the same this year without you.' Of course, the notice also included the infamous lyric: 'Who's gonna make the gravy?' It's a question that fans of the song are asking too, as they mourn the beloved character. 'But we know you'll always be with us, hovering above us, floating all around us, making sure we get it right. And laughing when we don't,' the notice continued. 'The funeral and service will be on August 14th. Followed by a wake to end all wakes! 'Further details to follow.' Kelly's followers expressed their sadness but also wondered if there was more behind his cryptic post — some speculated it was the musician teasing the long-awaited sequel to his iconic Australian song. 'I feel like there's more to this? What's happening on August 14?' one person commented on the post. 'Is this the follow up song?' another questioned. 'Just like the gravy, the plot thickens,' wrote one fan. Kelly's song — the inspiration for Binge's 2024 film How To Make Gravy — tells the story of Joe, a prisoner longing to spend Christmas with his family. In a letter to his brother, Dan, Joe shares a recipe for gravy (featuring flour, salt, red wine, and a dollop of tomato sauce) to help prepare the family's festive dinner. Joe asks Dan to care for his children in his absence and confesses his regret over his mistakes, expressing how much he wishes he could be there. He also pleads with Dan to support his wife, Rita, but warns him not to get too close, with the lyrics saying: 'Oh brother, please don't stab me in the back.' In May, the 70-year-old songwriter revealed during an interview on ABC's Double J radio show Tower Of Song that he had completed the sequel to his iconic hit titled Rita Wrote A Letter. 'I always wanted to sort of have more, I guess, her point of view in that whole situation,' Kelly said. 'It took a little dark turn, but I can't really say much more about that.' The 1996 track made its triple j Hottest 100 Australian Songs debut in July, coming in at number nine. Kelly will kick off his arena tour in September.

'Miss you so much': Linda Hogan pays birthday tribute to late ex-husband Hulk Hogan

Linda Hogan has paid tribute to her ex-husband Hulk Hogan on what would've been his 72nd birthday. The 65-year-old star posted a photo of herself with the wrestling legend - whose real name was Terry Bollea - in 1981 on Monday (11.08.25) following his tragic death last month after he suffered a heart attack at his home in Florida. Linda captioned the picture: "Me and Hulkster... 1981 Happy Birthday Terry. I love and miss you so much..." The TV personality and Hulk split in 2007 but she admitted that she was "devastated" when she paid tribute to her former husband in the days following his death. Linda - who has daughter Brooke, 37, and son Nick, 35, wrote in a comment on her Instagram post: "I had no idea he would pass away this soon. "We all really thought he would make a come back! Big surprise. We are all devastated. It's hitting me so hard." Linda revealed that she and the WWE legend were not on speaking terms when he died and explained that their son would "tell me things and vice versa". She said: "I still felt... although broken... we still were a family. It's so hard to know he's just gone. I tried to stay strong for Nick... but I'm melting down now. It's very sad. I love you Hulkster. You were my man. The only man for me. RIP." Linda was among the mourners at Hulk's funeral service in Florida last week, although Brooke chose not to attend to "honour" her father - who "hated the morbidity" of funerals. She penned on Instagram: "My father hated the morbidity of funerals. He didn't want one. "And although I know people grieve in many ways - and I'm so grateful for all the celebrations and events organised to honour him - as his daughter, I had to make my own decision to honour him the best and most genuine way I knew how... privately... the way that made me feel the closest to him." Brooke had a strained relationship with her father prior to his death and her husband Steven Oleksy revealed that Hulk had shown "no interest" in meeting his grandchildren Andrew and Molly following the birth of the twins in January. Former NHL player Oleksy told People: "I sent text messages once again to kind of gauge where he was at, but there was no interest."

Brandon Blackstock's cause of death revealed

Brandon Blackstock's cause of death has been confirmed. The talent manager, who was married to pop star Kelly Clarkson from 2013 to 2022, sadly passed away at the age of 48 last week and it has been revealed that he died from melanoma - a form of skin cancer - by Silver Bow County Coroner Dan Hollis. He added to People: "Brandon Blackstock passed away peacefully at his home in Butte, Montana on August 7th under hospice care surrounded by his family." Brandon - who had children River, 11, and Remy, nine, from his marriage to Kelly - died last week after battling cancer for over three years. A statement from a family representative read: "It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. "Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time." Blackstock's passing came just a day after Kelly, 43, revealed that her ex-husband was ill and that she would be postponing the rest of her Las Vegas residency dates for August. The Since U Been Gone hitmaker wrote on Instagram: "Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas. "While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them. I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding." Kelly is understood to be "staying strong" for her kids in the wake of Brandon's death, even though the couple's marriage ended in acrimony. A source told People: "Kelly and Brandon had their ups and downs, but at the end of the day, he was the father of her children and she is absolutely heartbroken for them. Her kids are her entire world, and she's staying strong for their sake." The Because of You singer had always tried to remain "classy" for the sake of their kids after learning that Brandon - who served as her manager during their marriage - was seriously ill. The insider added: "When she found out that he was sick, she remained protective of him for their sake. "Kelly has always tried to keep things classy. It became clear earlier this year that Brandon was not doing well. She's been devastated for the kids."
