Ludhiana: A man and his wife allegedly hacked his father to death with an axe because he did not transfer ownership of his house to her. A case has been filed against the accused, Jugraj Singh of Jatana village and his wife, Renu Rani.
Relatives of the accused handed them over to the police.
The complainant, Bhinder Singh of Jatana village, said that his brother Balvir Singh lived with his wife Manjit Kaur, his son Jugraj Singh Raju, and daughter-in-law Renu Rani in the village. He added that in 2023, Renu Rani went to her parents' place in Majri village in a huff and demanded that her father-in-law, Balvir Singh, transfer ownership of the house to her.
According to him, Jugraj Singh was an unemployed alcoholic while his brother worked as a shuttering contractor.
He alleged that Jugraj sold Balvir's Tata 407 vehicle without informing him. He also allegedly sold shuttering equipment in his absence. Balvir Singh was afraid that his son and daughter-in-law would sell the house, the complainant said, adding that Jugraj and his wife would fight with Balvir and harass him.

On June 25, the complainant met Balvir, who told him that the accused were harassing him and would kill him for the property. On the intervening night of June 25 and 26, the accused allegedly attacked Balvir with an axe while he was sleeping and left him seriously injured.
Thereafter, they allegedly claimed that Balvir had been attacked by some unknown person and admitted him in a hospital near Sherpur Chowk. The complainant said that they deliberately brought his brother home without getting him treated, and he died.
Sadar Khanna police filed a case against the accused under sections 103 (Murder) and 35 (common intention related) of BNS. SHO, Sadar Khanna police station, sub-inspector Sukhwinderpal Singh said that the accused were arrested on Friday after relatives handed them over to them.

Police officers found out that the man lived with his children in Mohan Block of Sagarpur. His wife had passed away a few years ago, and the child who was allegedly stabbed was the third of the four children, police said. Police said that the child was allegedly stabbed to death after he requested to go play outside. "The incident occurred when the child was at their rented home and insisted on going outside to play in the rain. His father objected to the idea, but the boy did not comply," a senior police officer said. "In a fit of rage, the father allegedly picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed the child in the chest in the left rib area. Thereafter, he immediately rushed the injured child to the hospital, but the victim could not survive," the officer added. The weapon used in the attack, a kitchen knife, has been recovered from the scene. A senior police officer said that the other children are being spoken to as part of the inquiry as the siblings was allegedly present inside the house at the time and witnessed the stabbing, police said. Further investigation is under way.

Tirupur: A newly-wed woman committed suicide by consuming sulphas tablets, an agricultural fumigant, on her way to Mondipalayam temple here on Sunday following dowry harassment. Police have arrested her husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law. Identifying the deceased as Ridhanya, 27, daughter of Annadurai, who runs a garment firm in the district, a police officer said she was married to Kavinkumar, 28, grandson of Tirupur district Congress leader Krishnan. "The marriage was solemnised in April. Ridhanya's parents had presented a dowry of 100 sovereigns of gold and a Volvo car worth Rs70 lakh to the groom." On Sunday, the officer said, Ridhanya sent a voice message to her father on WhatsApp stating her husband and his parents Eswaramurthy, 51, and Chithradevi, 47, had been harassing her demanding more dowry since 10 days after the marriage. According to the officer, she also told her father that she was going to end her life, as she couldn't endure the physical and mental harassment any more.
