The Playlist Netflix trailer
Netflix viewers are only now rediscovering a forgotten treasure that holds a flawless Rotten Tomatoes rating.

The Playlist is a limited series billed as a docudrama which chronicles a fictionalised account of how music streaming giant Spotify came to be. The show draws inspiration from the book Spotify Untold.

Spanning six episodes, The Playlist centres on young Swedish tech innovator Daniel Ek and his crucial collaborators who transformed an entire industry by providing free and legitimate streamed music globally.

The synopsis describes it as a tale of how unwavering beliefs, relentless determination, opportunity and ambitious visions can enable underdogs to disrupt established norms by revolutionising how we all experience music.
Despite debuting on the streaming platform in 2022, it appears countless Netflix users have overlooked its presence. This oversight seems peculiar given its perfect 100% score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, reports the Mirror.

One reviewer proclaimed the series establishes fresh benchmarks for its category, stating: "The Playlist is near perfect. The mini-series sets the bar high for all biographical dramas to come after it. Particularly because it captures the ills of the tech industry, the joy, the fallout, and the many many people that all go into one success..."
A critic from The Guardian hinted that the series finale alone makes it binge-worthy, writing: "One thing I won't spoil is how the series ends. This is because it is incredibly, brain-breakingly weird, and anyone who sits through all six hours of The Playlist deserves to feel the same jolting discomfort that I did."
Conversely, another review, bestowing a full five stars, praised the series effusively: "The Playlist is 2022's best drama. The scripts are sharp, pacey, funny and cleverly structured to provide each key player in the story with a voice. The performances are great without straying into bluster or scenery chewing, and there's a constant motion in the narrative that keeps you utterly captivated. Do not skip this one."

Netflix users who have discovered the show also speak highly of it, suggesting it's a limited series perfect for an evening's viewing.
One viewer shared their enthusiasm online, saying: "Riveting enough to be a definite binge watch."

Echoing this sentiment, another wrote: "Really great series. Enjoyed it and binge watched it in one evening. I also like the idea of how they built the episodes logically to make the whole story."
Adding to the chorus of approval, another person posted: "The way they showed how the journey of each individual played into the plot was very impressive. A 10/10 absolute binge worthy."
Another individual commented: "Highly gripping and inspiring. True reflection of today's startup culture. Loved it!".
The Playlist is streaming on Netflix.

Game of Thrones star's ‘underrated' period drama now streaming on Amazon Prime

The BBC drama Gunpowder has just arrived on Amazon Prime Video, to give viewers something to fill in their historical gaps on the Gunpowder Plot. Starring Game of Thrones breakout Kit Harington, the gory drama from Ronan Bennett first aired in 2017 to a fairly positive reception – the show has a rating of 72% on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Harington plays Robert Catesby, the mastermind behind the plot to blow up the House of Lords in 1605 and, it turns out, who Harington is a direct descendent of on his mother's side of the family. The show unspools this infamous plot to kill the king (James I, played by Derek Riddell), which went epicly wrong. The show is set in the context of Catholicism being illegal across the country, with very historically-accurate brutality inflicted on the population over comparatively minor religious differences. The three-part series was primetime viewing on the BBC – even as many noted the episodes were crammed with gruesome and graphic scenes that reflected the violence of the time period. Think intestines pouring out from people like sausage-links. The opening episode alone features scenes of a priest being hung, drawn and quartered and a woman stripped naked before being crushed to death under a slab which has weights slowly added one at a time. So not one for the queasy viewers. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video In interviews to promote the show, Harington was sure that viewers would be able to handle 'a greater level of violence as long as it's justified'. He said: 'We can't avoid the executions that the people around these men suffered. And I think it's wrong when showing a torture scene or execution, I think it's wrong to shy too far away from the reality of it. 'You need to feel the reasons, to know why they go and do the things they do.' It's by no means a cheery watch. And while that might have put some off at the time, there are also those who congratulated the show on its authenticity. In 1605, a group of British Catholics, including Guy Fawkes and Robert Catesby (Harington's character), hatched a plan to blow up Parliament. The plan was to wipe out the anti-Catholic establishment and King James I, a protestant who introduced strict laws that persecuted Catholics. These laws included the outlaw of Catholic priests. Spoiler alert, the plot failed. Guards found the conspirators hiding in the cellars, moments before they had planned to blow the place. Brits now celebrate Bonfire Night on the November 5 anniversairy, with a Guy Fawkes effigy traditionally burned on a bonfire alongside fireworks. Taking to Google reviews, Beverley Raw wrote: 'I found this fantastically exciting swashbuckling stuff. 'If you like exciting, adult historical realistic drama this is for you. Brilliant casting and acting.' 'Amazing show, so underrated and has a great script, cinematography, and acting. Well done indeed,' wrote Jacob Bennette. More Trending Carla Wilson echoed: 'Excellent cast, brought to us as realistically as possible. 'Violent scenes, and to those that complained of the violence and how sick it was, one only has to read history to know just how sick people were during that time. 'Love historical movies or series and hope to see more.' View More » Gunpowder is avaibale to stream on Amazon Prime Video. Got a story? Meghan Markle reveals huge stars appearing in With Love series two as she shares teaser

The first-look trailer for the second series of Meghan Markle's lifestyle show With Love, Meghan has dropped - and it's set to air in just a matter of days. The teaser shows Meghan joined by a string of guests for the second outing of the show, which was previously panned by critics. Sharing the teaser on Instagram, the Duchess of Sussex captioning the trailer: "The best moments are made to be shared. With Love, Meghan returns August 26th on @netflix." In the short preview, Queer Eye star Tan France and Chrissy Teigen make an appearance as guests in Meghan's house. The trailer showed Meghan cooking and baking with celebrity friends. "I love the idea of just spending time together… and finding new ways to show people you care.", she adds: 'There are easy ways to show up, lovingly.' The trailer comes just hours after it was revealed that Meghan along with husband Prince Harry have signed a new "multi-year, first look deal for film and television projects" with Netflix. With Love, Meghan, season one was released in March but failed to break into the top 300 most-watched shows on the streaming platform in the first six months of 2025. In the eight-part first season of the show, the former Suits actress gives hosting tips and cooks with celebrity friends including The Office star Mindy Kaling, whom Meghan tells she goes by the surname Sussex now. Harry made just one appearance at the end of the first season's final episode when he joined Meghan, her mother Doria Ragland and friends for an outdoor celebratory brunch. The new trailer comes as Harry and Meghan's new TV and film deal means Netflix will have the first option on their new projects and was described by the Sussexes as 'extending their creative partnership'. Five years ago, Harry and Meghan secured a lucrative contract, thought to be worth more than 100 million dollars (£74 million), with Netflix after quitting as senior working royals in 2020 - but this new extension is seen as a downgrade on their previous exclusive rights deal and is believed to be worth a lot less. Meghan, who has a partnership with Netflix for her As Ever brand, said: 'We're proud to extend our partnership with Netflix and expand our work together to include the As Ever brand. My husband and I feel inspired by our partners who work closely with us and our Archewell Productions team to create thoughtful content across genres that resonates globally, and celebrates our shared vision.' Bela Bajaria, Netflix's Chief Content Officer, added: 'Harry and Meghan are influential voices whose stories resonate with audiences everywhere. The response to their work speaks for itself — Harry & Meghan gave viewers an intimate look into their lives and quickly became one of our most-watched documentary series. "More recently, fans have been inspired by With Love, Meghan, with products from the new As Ever line consistently selling out in record time. We're excited to continue our partnership with Archewell Productions and to entertain our members together." Meanwhile, it is believed both Meghan and Harry will appear in a new short documentary film they are executive producers on called Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within. The documentary will shine a light on orphaned children in Uganda's Masaka region, where the 'shadows of the HIV/Aids crisis linger'. Netflix said: 'Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within goes beyond the viral videos to reveal a vibrant, one-of-a-kind community where orphaned children transform hardship into joy, dancing their way toward healing, belonging and the promise of a brighter future.' It comes after Harry stepped down from Sentebale, the charity he founded to help children orphaned by Aids in Lesotho, following a boardroom battle with the chairwoman. The duke, who is considering starting a new humanitarian charity, has vowed to continue his commitment to supporting youngsters in the region. There is also 'active development' on other projects with Netflix which 'span a variety of content genres', including a feature adaptation of the bestselling romantic novel by Carley Fortune, Meet Me At The Lake.

Meghan shares trailer for new series of critically savaged Netflix show – after she & Harry struck ‘downgraded' deal

MEGHAN Markle's heavily criticised Netflix show has been renewed for a second season as a new trailer dropped. Footage showed the Duchess of Sussex alongside a host of famous guests ahead of the release of the second series of With Love, Meghan on August 26. 3 3 3 The first season of Meghan's eight-part Netflix show saw her bee-keeping, making homemade candles and cooking with celeb pals, including Mindy Kaling and make-up artist Daniel Martin. It comes after Harry and Meghan announced yesterday they had signed a new "multi-year, first look deal" with the American streaming giant to produce " film and television projects". The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have previously released a number of shows on the platform, including a 2022 documentary on their lives and lifestyle show With Love, Meghan this year. They had secured a lucrative five-year contract - thought to be worth more than $100 million (£74 million) - with Netflix after quitting as senior working royals in 2020. However, this new deal has been signed for "much less", an insider told Page Six. Meghan said in a statement: 'We're proud to extend our partnership with Netflix and expand our work together to include the As Ever brand. "My husband and I feel inspired by our partners who work closely with us and our Archewell Productions team to create thoughtful content across genres that resonates globally, and celebrates our shared vision.' Netflix will only pay for projects they want to screen, rather than pay in a single multi-million pound agreement like the one signed in 2020, The Sun understands. The Sun can also reveal, however, that the streaming giants will cover Archewell Productions's overheads, including all costs for its offices and staff. The new deal was also described as a "downgrade" by PR expert Mark Borkowski. He told the Mail: "I think Netflix has done a very neat job of pivoting away from two very expensive people who didn't deliver, and they've taken that deal off the table, and they've given them a modest one. "It's not like they're gradually uncoupling – it's a downgrade. Netflix are not going to expose themselves to those budgets again. It's Netflix saying, 'Let's have a look at your content, but we'll pick and choose, mate'." On top of Season 2 of With Love, Meghan - which will drop later this month - the couple will also film a "Holiday Celebration" Christmas special. "Join Meghan in Montecito for a magical holiday celebration," the announcement read. "Together, friends and family deck the halls, create holiday feasts, craft heartfelt gifts, and share lots of laughs – with simple how-tos to follow at home. It's a holiday wonder with warmth, tradition, and a generous dose of joy." The couple will also release a short film called "Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within" which will look at Uganda's Masaka region and the HIV/AIDS crisis there. This has echoes of Harry's mum Diana's work, who pioneered social change on perceptions of HIV/AIDS. She famously shook the hand of a man suffering with the illness without gloves, publicly challenging the idea that HIV/Aids was passed from person to person by touch. There is also "active development" on other projects with Netflix which "span a variety of content genres", including a feature adaptation of the bestselling romantic novel by Carley Fortune, Meet Me At The Lake. Bela Bajaria, Netflix's Chief Content Officer, said: 'Harry and Meghan are influential voices whose stories resonate with audiences everywhere. "The response to their work speaks for itself — Harry & Meghan gave viewers an intimate look into their lives and quickly became one of our most-watched documentary series. 'Meghan & Harry need to come up with a hit soon' By Matt Wilkinson JUST when you thought it was safe to turn the telly on again... Harry and Meghan are back. And their multi-year renewal with Netflix means they are not going away anytime soon. There have been tense negotiations in recent weeks but Netflix is so deeply involved with Meghan's As Ever brand it was always likely that the streaming giants would want them back. Make no mistake, Harry and Meghan would have been desperate for the deal to be renewed. They will likely be opening a bottle or two of As Ever Rose in Montecito. Because they have invested heavily in Archewell Productions and getting on board with Netflix is central not only to their post-Royal endeavours but more importantly crucial to their bank accounts. If they lost their Netflix money then how could they afford their life in the US? While the length of the deal or how much the couple are getting paid is vague we do know that Meghan will appear in a 'holiday special' in December that will likely clash with the Princess of Wales's annual Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey. And finally, two years after I revealed in The Sun the couple had bought the rights to the book Meet Me At The Lake, production is in active development. Sources close to the couple are coy about whether Harry or Meghan will appear on screen for the production of Masaka Kids, A Rhythm Within which will air later this year. But perhaps the best piece of news from the announcement is no repeat of the six-part documentary which dumped on the Royal Family. However, 'Harry & Meghan' was a ratings dream and none of their projects since have been anywhere as successful. They need to come up with a hit soon. And this 'first look' deal means Netflix has the first option on new projects from the couple without any guaranteed commitment. But remember the Sussexes are not the only Royals to be in bed with Netflix. The King will feature in a documentary on The King's Foundation with Idris Elba. "More recently, fans have been inspired by With Love, Meghan, with products from the new As Ever line consistently selling out in record time. "We're excited to continue our partnership with Archewell Productions and to entertain our members together.' It was previously thought that the Sussexes' £74million deal with the streamer was not going to be renewed. Harry's vanity project, Polo, about the sport, was watched by just 500,000 people. But it was also understood that bosses were mildly infuriated by Meghan making her As Ever brand a priority. The With Love, Meghan viewing figures have reportedly been "dismal". Lifestyle and cookery show With Love, Meghan only ranked at number 383 in Netflix's six-monthly engagement report this year, with just 5.3million viewers across the globe. Described by one critic as an 'exercise in narcissism', it was beaten by reruns of the first four seasons of legal drama Suits, which also starred the Duchess in her pre-royal days. Once judged by some as Britain's greatest soft power asset since Princess Diana, Meghan was filmed for her show making ladybird-shaped canapes from cherry tomatoes and mozzarella balls. In truth, the show is a smash hit compared to her husband's vanity docuseries Polo, blasted as 'a dull indulgence about a rich person's pursuit'. In the first six months of the year the programme attracted a disastrous 500,000 views globally, ranking it at number 3,442 out of around 7,000 shows.
