Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurates Ayushman Arogya Mandirs

After the BJP came to power in Delhi, its government signed an MoU with the Centre earlier this month to as she inaugurated an Ayushman Arogya Mandir here to deliver comprehensive primary health care Press Trust of India New Delhi Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday asserted that her government wants to make the national capital best in terms of health infrastructure as she inaugurated an Ayushman Arogya Mandir here to deliver comprehensive primary health care. At the inauguration event at Tis Hazari, Gupta also hit out at the previous AAP dispensation and alleged that mohalla clinics run by them were "corruption hubs". "Corruption was committed in the name of outsourcing of tests. There was corruption in taking space for the clinics on rent," she charged. Gupta said the Centre had allocated Rs 2,400 crore to the previous government for opening of over 1,100 Ayushman Mandirs but those funds were not utilised. "Those funds will lapse by March. The previous government did not use the funds. We have to build these Ayushman Mandirs by March next year so that the funds do not get lapsed. The work that should have been done in five years, we will have to do it in much less time," she added. The chief minister said the government is working towards making Delhi the best in terms of health infrastructure. "We want to ensure that no one should lose their life because of lack of proper treatment," she added. According the the standards set by the World Health Organisation, there should be two beds per 1,000 people. "There are 0.42 beds in Delhi for 1,000 people. It means that there is not even one bed available for 1,000 people. We are working on a target of having three beds for 1,000 people," she added. Thirty-three Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and 17 Jan Aushadhi Kendras were inaugurated across the national capital by ministers here. Ayushman Arogya Mandirs is a component of the Union government's Ayushman Bharat initiative. After the BJP came to power in Delhi, its government signed an MoU with the Centre earlier this month to implement the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in the city, fulfilling a major poll promise of the party. At the event, the chief minister also urged lawyers not to deface walls with posters. "Posters are seen pasted around courts. I request you to not deface the walls. Please remove these posters," she said. Mehul Choksi takes ‘kidnapping' allegations against India to U.K. court

Mehul Choksi, the businessman wanted in India to face charges in the Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case, is suing the Indian government and five individuals in the High Court in London as conspirators for his alleged 'kidnap, torture and attempted rendition'. The Indian authorities have denied the allegations and objected to the U.K. jurisdiction based on 'state immunity' and also sought permission for expert evidence on Indian law and the Indian Constitution to be taken into account. During a case management hearing listed before Justice Freedman on Monday (June 16, 2025), the court was told that Choksi claims to have been tortured back in May 2021 as part of a kidnap attempt 'orchestrated by the government of India'. 'For the avoidance of doubt, nothing in these submissions is intended to waive or should be interpreted as waiving India's state immunity,' the court was told this week by the Indian side. Choksi was accused of making 'extremely serious allegations against India, alleging it masterminded an international plot to kidnap and harm him'. 'It is India's position that the present claim is being pursued principally with the (misguided) intention of attempting to cause embarrassment to India and obtain leverage in the Claimant's international attempts to avoid extradition,' barrister Harish Salve argued on behalf of the Indian authorities. Choksi's lawyers, led by barrister Edward Fitzgerald, allege that there was a collusion between five individuals in the attack on him in Antigua to be forcibly taken to Dominica in the Caribbean with the purpose of being 'rendered' to India. 'The Defendants thereby entered into an unlawful means conspiracy whereby the Defendants agreed to, and then did, inflict unlawful and injurious acts on the Claimant by means of assault, battery, false imprisonment, unlawful detention, and/or unlawful restriction of liberty,' Choksi's legal claim reads. The businessman, meanwhile, remains in custody in Belgium, fighting against his extradition to India. He is wanted in India along with his nephew, Nirav Modi, who remains behind bars in London after repeated attempts at bail have been denied by the English courts. There are three sets of criminal proceedings against Nirav in India – the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case of fraud on PNB, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) case relating to the alleged laundering of the proceeds of that fraud and a third set of criminal proceedings involving alleged interference with evidence and witnesses in the CBI proceedings. In April 2021, then U.K. home secretary Priti Patel had ordered his extradition to face these charges in the Indian courts after a prima facie case was established against him. But recent court hearings in London have alluded to a "confidential" impediment to his extradition, believed to be an asylum application.

Taking steps to ensure safety of students stranded in Iran: Doda administration

Doda: Amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, the administration of J&K's Doda on Tuesday said it has taken proactive steps to ensure the safety of students from the region currently studying in Iran. According to officials, at least seven students from Doda district are pursuing MBBS degrees in Iran and have been caught in the ongoing conflict. Speaking to IANS, Doda's Deputy Commissioner, Harvinder Singh, said: "District administration is in constant touch with the students' families and is coordinating efforts with the Indian Embassy to secure their safety. Our immediate concern is the well-being of our students. We are working closely with the families and the Indian Embassy, which has shifted the students to a safe location." To facilitate this process, the Doda administration has issued a dedicated helpline for families to report the whereabouts of their loved ones in Iran. Citizens are urged to share all relevant details as soon as possible to aid evacuation and safety planning. The number of the helpline, set up in the control room of the DC's office, is +91 95967 76203 A standard data format has also been released to streamline the collection of information, which is being widely circulated through official and public channels. "People are advised to contact us immediately if they know of any residents who may be in Iran. So far, we have received details of seven students, and necessary arrangements are being made for their continued safety. However, there may be others, including tourists, whose information has not yet reached us," Singh added. The DC said that the administration has maintained consistent contact with the students' families. "Our Emergency Operation Centre remains active, and we are prepared to respond to any updates. The Indian Embassy is fully cooperating, and together we aim to ensure that not just students but any Indian citizen in the region remains safe," he told IANS. An advisory and a dedicated Excel form have also been circulated to gather structured data on individuals who may still be in the conflict zone. The DC urged residents to remain vigilant and proactive in sharing information. "This message goes out to all Indians in conflict zones: Indian embassies are working tirelessly to ensure your safety. If you face any problem, approach your local district administration. We are committed to ensuring every citizen returns home safe," Singh said.
