China says welcomes Russian decision to recognise Taliban govt
'As a traditional friendly neighbour of Afghanistan, the Chinese side has always believed that Afghanistan should not be excluded from the international community,' foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said.
The Taliban swept back to power in 2021 after ousting the foreign-backed government and have imposed an austere version of Islamic law.
They have keenly sought official international recognition and investment, as the country recovers from four decades of war, including the Soviet invasion from 1979 to 1989.

China does not officially recognise the government but hosts a Taliban ambassador in Beijing.
It has said the Taliban government will need to introduce political reforms, improve security and mend relations with its neighbouring countries before receiving full diplomatic recognition.
But on Friday, Mao said: 'No matter how the internal or external situation changes in Afghanistan, diplomatic relations between China and Afghanistan have never been interrupted.'
'The diplomatic institutions of the two sides in each other's countries have maintained their normal functioning and have played a positive role in promoting the development of relations between the two countries,' she added.

Listen to article Security forces killed 30 Khawariji terrorists attempting to infiltrate the country from Afghanistan during operations conducted over two nights in North Waziristan, the military's media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) sated in press release on Friday. The movement of a large group of terrorists, identified as Khawarij belonging to the Indian proxy group Fitna al Khawarij, was detected on the nights of July 1–2 and 2–3 in the Hassan Khel area near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, the statement said. Security forces engaged the group and 'thwarted the Indian-sponsored Khawariji terrorists' attempt to infiltrate,' the ISPR said in a statement. The military said a large quantity of weapons, ammunition, and explosives was recovered from the site. According to ISPR, the terrorists killed were involved in multiple terrorist attacks, including those targeting civilians and law enforcement personnel. The ISPR called on the Interim Afghan Government to prevent the use of Afghan soil by 'foreign proxies' for orchestrating terrorist activities against Pakistan. The military reiterated that Pakistan's security forces remain 'resolute and unwavering' in their commitment to defend the nation's frontiers and eliminate Indian-sponsored terrorism from the country.

30 Indian-sponsored terrorists killed in North Waziristan border infiltration attempt: ISPR
At least 30 Indian sponsored khawarij were killed by security forces in general area of Hassan Khel, North Waziristan District. 'On night 1/2 and 2/3 July 2025, movement of a large group of khawarij, belonging to Indian Proxy Fitna al Khwarij, were trying to infiltrate through Pakistan-Afghanistan border, was detected by the security forces in,' said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a press release on Friday. The press release said that security forces effectively engaged and thwarted Indian sponsored Khawarij's attempt to infiltrate and all 30 Indian terrorists were sent killed. A large quantity of weapons, ammunition and explosives were recovered from them. 'The Interim Afghan Government also needs to check and prevent the use of Afghan soil by 'foreign proxies' for orchestrating terrorist activities against Pakistan,' the military's media wing said. 'The security forces of Pakistan remain resolute and unwavering in their commitment to defend the nation's frontiers and to eradicate the menace of Indian sponsored terrorism from the country.' Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari commended the security forces for eliminating the terrorists and reaffirmed that the nation's resolve for the elimination of terrorist elements and the defence of the country will remain unwavering. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also paid tribute to security forces and said that the brave armed forces of Pakistan are standing like a solid wall to protect the country, as per Radio Pakistan. He expressed Pakistan's firm determination to root out terrorism in all its forms from the country. Last month, security forces killed five Khawarij belonging to Indian Proxy, Fitna al Khawarij in two separate engagements in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 'An intelligence based operation was conducted by the security forces in Peshawar District, on reported presence of Indian sponsored Khawarij,' the ISPR said in a statement.
