2 men learn punishment for using drones to get drugs, phones in Ohio prisons
Cory Sutphin was sentenced to nearly five years in prison, and Charles Gibbs was sentenced to 10 years, according to CBS-affaliate WBNS.
News Center 7 previously reported that an investigation was launched by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Correction in May 2021 when a drone carrying contraband was seen outside the Toledo Correctional Institution.

Three people were arrested after an investigation: Sutphin, Gibbs and Robert Faulkner.
The three used drones to drop drugs, phones, and other contraband onto the grounds of Toledo, Mansfield, Richland, and Ross correctional facilities.
A search warrant was executed at Faulkner's home where over $300,000 worth of drugs, weapons, cell phones, and other contraband were found.
Faulkner is scheduled to be sentenced on April 29.

An Ohio police officer was arrested for OVI after crashing into a pizza restaurant early Wednesday morning, according to our CBS affiliate, WOIO-19 TV. Officers helped Kane out of the car and noticed a glossy appearance in his eyes and smelled a strong odor of alcohol, WOIO-19 reported. A North Olmsted police report notes that Kane refused to take a standard field sobriety test and was arrested on OVI charges. Police marked that Kane refused to submit to a blood test as he repeatedly told officers, 'Take it by hospital,' instead of saying yes or no, according to WOIO-19. Medics responded to the scene to evaluate Kane and later transported him to a hospital. WOIO-19 reported that Kane was cited for failure to control and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The Cleveland Division of Police provided the following statement to our CBS affiliate. "Cleveland Police Deputy Chief Jarod Schlacht confirms Officer Gary Kane was arrested on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, by the North Olmsted Police Department. The incident that led to this arrest occurred outside the city of Cleveland while Kane was off duty. The North Olmsted Police will conduct the investigation. The Cleveland Police Internal Affairs Unit will monitor the process to stay informed on the outcome of the investigation. Officer Kane will remain on restricted duty pending the adjudication of the case. Kane was hired by the Division of Police in December 2015 and most recently served in the Fifth District, Basic Patrol Section." Licking County crash near Granville kills Newark man, injures two people
A Newark man is dead and two others suffered injuries in a crash near Granville in Licking County, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. The crash happened at 6:56 p.m. Aug. 19, on State Route 661 between Smoketown Road and Lake Fork Road, a highway patrol lieutenant said. A northbound Honda Civic on State Route 661 left the right side of the road before returning and crossing the center line into southbound lanes, the highway patrol said. A Jeep wrangler driving south on State Route 661 swerved to avoid the Honda, but the vehicles collided, according to the highway patrol. The Honda overturned, ejecting two occupants. The Jeep struck a mailbox at the side of the road. William Coss, 46, of Newark, died at the scene, the highway patrol said. A 37-year-old Newark woman was transported to Licking Memorial Hospital with "life-threatening" injuries. A highway patrol lieutenant said Coss and the woman were in the Honda, but it wasn't clear which one of them was driving because they were ejected. Investigators collected evidence from the Honda's interior to determine who was in the driver's seat, the lieutenant said. EMS treated and released the Jeep driver, a 55-year-old woman from Newark, at the scene, according to the highway patrol. 2 children among 4 killed in crash on Ohio Turnpike in Sandusky County
SANDUSKY COUNTY, Ohio (WJW) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash that happened Monday morning, killing four people. According to a press release, the accident happened on the Ohio Turnpike in Sandusky County. Two CMSD teachers killed in car crash after dropping son off at college Troopers say the driver of a tractor-trailer was headed westbound when it hit a Ford F-450, then went off the left side of the road. The tractor-trailer hit the concrete median, re-entered the road, and then went off the right side of the highway, according to the release. The tractor-trailer hit a traffic sign pole before finally stopping. The Ford F-450 also went off the road and hit the concrete median before coming to a rest. 3 people missing at two Northeast Ohio beaches The driver of the tractor-trailer was identified as Rolando Torres Lebron, 27, of Buffalo, New York.
