'I saved £170 on holiday toiletries bagging £220 worth of beauty for £50'

'I saved £170 on holiday toiletries bagging £220 worth of beauty for £50'

Daily Mirror24-05-2025

Heading off on holiday soon, shopping writer Lucy Addicott found a way to sort her summer skincare and makeup for a fraction of the price
For me, stocking up on summer-ready skincare and makeup is all part of the fun of going on holiday, but after navigating paying for flights, travel insurance and luggage fees, it can soon start to add up. With SPF, after-sun and moisturiser on my must-have list, I found an impressive way to bag all these items and more, saving £170.
OK! Beauty Box, a beauty subscription service, have just launched a one-off summer beauty box packed with goodies worth over £220. Having received mine in the post, I was delighted to discover it contains 12 products, with eight of them being full sized.
The box is priced at £49.99, so after a quick calculation, each item essentially comes in at £4.16 each. When you consider that just one of the products (the Mudmasky Glow-Up Cleanser) costs £40 alone, you're effectively getting ten products for free. And, if you can save money off your toiletries, that means more in the budget for cocktails, right?
This beauty box is filled with products from stand-out brands including Bondi Sands, Trinny London, Hello Sunday and more, but the first item that caught my eye had to be the Nuxe multi-purpose dry oil for your face, body and oil. The travel size bottle is the ideal size for taking away as a little goes a long way.
It leaves your skin with the most glorious shimmer and as it smells lovely and floral, it doubles up as a body scent, too. I would warn however that the applicator is a little tricky to use so be careful to not overpour and waste any of the product.
Speaking of summery scents, the Bondi Sands Body Moisturiser enriched with vitamin E and jojoba has a tropical rum fragrance. I was a little wary at first that I might end up smelling too much like a Pina Colada, but the lotion has a subtle pineapple scent which is really pleasant.
I personally use a gradual tan and the moisturiser has been specifically formulated to help prolong the life of your tan and be self-tan friendly. If you don't use self-tanner, it is still a hydrating, lightweight moisturiser that leaves skin smooth and radiant.
If you're a fan of the summery scent from the best-loved Sol de Janiero Brazilian Bum Bum Cream, shoppers can find it included in the LookFantastic The Summer Heroes Edit. The box is worth more than £150, retailing for £45, and includes items from ESPA, Eucerin, Iconic London, Caudalie and more.
Next up in the OK! Summer Beauty Box are two makeup products that work wonderfully in union - Trinny London's Golden Glow Bronzer and the Bellapierre All Eyes On You Eyeshadow Palette. Both are worth £25 individually, so the subscription is worth getting for just these two items alone, and they are ideal for a golden goddess summer beauty look.
I applied the bronzer across my nose, forehead and the tops of my cheekbones and it gave me a sun-kissed finish. The eyeshadow quad allowed me to create a bronzed, smokey eye look, however, I could have done with a pale brown matte shade in the selection. I was pleasantly surprised to find removing the glitter eyeshadow quick and easy.
Worth £20, the Hello Sunday The Take-Out One Invisible Sun Stick SPF30 really intrigued me as I'd never used a clear sunscreen product before. While I'm yet to test it out in high temperatures, I did pop it on for a sunny day in the UK and it felt lightweight and non-sticky. It'll be perfect for topping up areas prone to burning on holiday, such as the tops of shoulders and on the face.
What's inside the OK! Summer Beauty Box?
Hello Sunday The Take-Out One Invisible Sun Stick SPF30 - full size, worth £20
Gruum Solstaler After Sun Face Oil - full size, worth £15
Glow Core Gua Shua - full size, worth £10.80
Trinny London Golden Glow Bronzer in shade Naomi - full size, worth £25
KVD Beauty Tattoo Pencil Liner - travel size, worth £13
Nuxe Hulle Multi-Purpose Dry Oil - travel size, worth £4.40
Bondi Sands Tropical Rum Scent Body Moisturiser - full size, worth £5.99
Bellapierre Cosmetics All Eyes On You Eyeshadow Palette - full size, worth £25
Avant Reconstructing Keratin Complex Ultra Shine Hair Cream - travel size, worth £17
Mudmasky Glow-Up Cleanser - full size, worth £39.99
Balance Me Super Firming Body Oil - travel size, worth £12
Amphora Aromatics Mint and Deas Sea Salts Deep Cleansing Face Mask - full size, worth £14
Overall, the quality of the items included in the OK! Summer Beauty Box, versus the £49.99 price tag, makes for an exceptional bargain. For a cheaper option, consumers can consider the Boots Self Care Beauty Box priced at £34 but worth £137. Inside, expect delights from brands such as No7, Estee Lauder and Philip Kingsley.
I would have liked to see a lip product in the OK! Beauty Box, however, I found the variation of products you receive meant I could stock up on most of my summer beauty essentials such as SPF, after-sun, moisturiser, body glow and more, in one.
Each product felt really luxurious to use, so even testing them out at home I felt like I was already on holiday. With my travel toiletries bag now packed with Trinny London, Bondi Sands and Nuxe for less than £50, I feel ready to jet off in style.

Get a free Sol de Janeiro tote bag with exclusive Space NK bundle worth over £45

This £45 Sol de Janeiro gift set comes with cult-fave minis and a beach-ready tote you'll use all summer, thanks to an exclusive bundle from Space NK Nothing screams summer more than a Sol de Janeiro body mist and Bum Bum cream, and now with an exclusive Space NK gift set, you can grab both of these items, plus a mini body oil and canvas tote bag. The set in question is the Sol de Janeiro The Sol Tote + Body Essentials, priced at £45. And what's included is: 1x Canvas Mini Bag, 1x Brazilian Bum Bum Cream 50ml, 1x Firmeza Body Oil 12ml, 1x Cheirosa 62 Perfume Mist 90ml. The price alone of the Cheirosa Mist and Bum Bum cream would equal to just under £45, so you're essentially getting the minitarure tote bag (which is adorable by the way) plus a miniature body oil for no extra cost. And it's not the only bargain bundle we've spotted this week. Murad's Retinol Heroes Set, usually £142, is now available for £63.90 for a limited time in a LookFantastic offer. While Next's limited-edition Father's Day Beauty Box, worth £88, is packed with premium self-care essentials from brands like Percy & Reed, Rituals, Aromatherapy Associates and more for £22. So what exactly is the scent of the body mist in Sol de Janeiro's set? It's number 62, a rich and sweet blend of pistachio, jasmine, and salted caramel, which the brand says is supposed to transport you to a hot, sunny day on the glorious coast of Rio. The cult-favourite Bum Bum Cream ('boom boom' in Brazil!) is also included in this summer set. Packed with guaraná, cupuaçu butter, coconut and açaí oils, it hydrates deeply while helping skin feel firmer and super soft. And like the Cheirosa mist, the scent is a dreamy mix of pistachio, salted caramel and vanilla. It's literally a holiday in a tub. Plus if you're a new customer to Space NK, you can actually nab this summer-ready set for £36 by using the code FIRST20 at checkout for 20% off your order. And don't worry if you're a returning customer. Space NK is offering a free full-size Sol De Janeiro Rio Radiance SPF 50 Body Lotion or Body Oil if you spend £50 or more on Sol De Janeiro products.

First Dates' Fred Sirieix admits to arguing with wife over huge issue at home

EXCLUSIVE: First Dates star Fred Sirieix married his fiancé of five years earlier this year in a Jamaican romantic ceremony but like any other couple, the pair have their tense moments Fred Sirieix is best known for making the nation smile or fall in love, but now the First Dates maître d' is set to make us cry too, in a deeply moving new episode of Who Do You Think You Are?. Fred, who was born in Limoges, France, discovers more about his grandfather's experiences during the Second World War, gaining a heartbreaking insight into those 'silent periods' which would affect Fred's own mother while she was growing up. ‌ Fresh from marrying his fiancée of five years, who he affectionately dubs 'Fruitcake', in a romantic ceremony in Jamaica in February, the charming 53-year-old Frenchman opens up exclusively to OK! about love, legacy and the highly emotional discoveries from the past that have brought him closer to his family than ever before… ‌ Congratulations on getting married earlier this year. How was the wedding? The wedding was amazing. We got married in Negril, in Jamaica. It's my favourite part of the country – seven miles of beach, discovered in the 60s by hippies. The music, the sand, feeling your feet in the water – you hear Bob Marley in the air. We were there for a couple of weeks. Days before the wedding we all had drinks on the beach, shorts on and just relaxed. That way, everyone already knew each other on the big day. And then, it was a huge party. It sounds like an absolute fairy tale… It was brilliant. But you know, we did it for us. We had friends and family there, but it was about Fruitcake and me. We've been together for 10 years. We're 53 and 51 – we're not spring chickens! But we believe in our relationship, and it was great to make a big deal out of it. It was about trust, commitment and celebrating what we have. It really elevated our relationship and sealed the way in which we feel for each other. It's been a beautiful experience. ‌ How is married life now? Is it any different? It just carries on. But I've got the ring – I feel it on my finger every day. Life is the same – we still argue as much as before! I'm still cooking, and she still complains because I haven't cleaned the kitchen properly. I always clean it, but apparently there's always something that's not clean enough. How did you first know Fruitcake was The One? ‌ Because I realised early on that I could totally trust her. She's genuine. She is who she says she is. The nickname Fruitcake is so sweet – literally! Where does it come from? That one's just between her and me. It works for us. She's Fruitcake. That's all you need to know. And that's all she wants you to know. We're happy that way. ‌ Being on First Dates , you have built a TV career around love and relationships. What's something you've learnt about love that you wish you knew 20 years ago? It's about trust. About knowing someone's got your back and you've got theirs. Love is not something that changes. Like Shakespeare said, 'Love is not love which alters when it alteration finds.' We have to know what we want in life. A lot of people change their minds like the wind. One day they love you, the next they don't. I've seen it for years on First Dates . People say they want X, Y and Z – we give it to them, and suddenly they want A, B and C. It's not about 'settling' – it's about knowing what you've got is as good as it gets, then making it work. ‌ Your daughter Andrea [Spendolini-Sirieix] is an Olympic diver for Team GB. How did it feel to see her win a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics? Amazing. Andrea has been training since she was eight. The Olympics was her dream. And to win a medal in Paris – it was incredible. She's won medals for Britain and Italy, but never in France. She trained so hard she barely went to school, but she still got brilliant results. I've always said if you want something, you've got to work for it. No shortcuts. You're going to suffer. It's got to be painful. You're in the latest series of Who Do You Think You Are?. It's an emotional watch… ‌ Oh, I cried every day in fact, because it was very emotional. I went to Burgundy, where my grandfather was a prisoner of war. I went to the very place he was held during the Second World War. He escaped from there to go home, crossing the whole of France. It was so dangerous. The penalty was being shot. What I didn't realise is that my grandfather was suffering from PTSD, and so was my great-grandfather, who, incredibly, took part in the First World War from the very first battle to the last. And he survived. I mean, it's just incredible. Your calls to your mother during the show are very moving, too… I was calling her every day, telling her what we found. And as I was telling her things, it triggered stuff for her. She told me something I didn't know: that my grandfather would sometimes not speak for weeks, even months. It created a very strange atmosphere in the house. That affected my mum in a really big way. There was always a part of my mum I didn't fully understand. But by doing Who Do You Think You Are? , I just got it. That feeling of being abandoned, not loved, being left behind. My mum would have been six years old, and her father didn't speak to her? That's huge. ‌ It sounds like it helped you to bond in a new way… It really did. I remember when I called her, I was standing in the trenches – and she told me that story. My heart just sank. I never could have imagined it. But without doing this show, I wouldn't have known. It brought me closer to her. It strengthened our bond. It was a beautiful experience. ‌ Away from TV, you're doing amazing work with your charity, The Right Course, aren't you? Yes, I started working with this charity, which seeks to promote the education of young offenders, ex- young offenders or those at risk of offending through hospitality, when my daughter was born. At the time, there was a wave of crime in our local area, people were getting stabbed. I thought to myself, I've got to do something about it. Right now, we've got six restaurants in prisons, helping offenders train and get jobs; the goal is to have one in every prison. What sort of help do you give? When people come out of jail, they need three things: a job, a place to stay and contact with family. That's how we stop reoffending. We're making a small difference. We're working with the government and the Ministry Of Justice to scale it up. But I'm part of society. I've got a voice, and I've got to be able to use it – if everybody focuses on that, we can make the world better.
