Broncos 27, Cardinals 7: Takeaways from offensive performance on offense
It wasn't a good game on either side of the ball.
Offensively, it was bad.
What can we take away from the offensive performance?
Feels good with Jacoby Brissett
For the second straight game, new Cardinals backup Jacoby Brissett impressed. This time, he played only two drives in the first quarter. The first one went only six yards in five plays, picking up a first down, but he led the Cardinals to another touchdown, throwing a beautiful pass to receiver Simi Fehoko for the score. He was 6-of-8 passing for 57 yards and a touchdown, and he picked up a first down on a two-yard quarterback sneak.
It gives fans comfort knowing that there is a capable, even competent, backup behind Kyler Murray. However, we must also remember that the five possessions he has played in two preseason games, while three have results in touchdowns, they were all against their opponents' backups.
The offensive numbers are just bad
The Cardinals gained only 135 yards of offense the entire night. They had only eight first downs.
If you take away Brissett's two possessions, quarterback Clayton Tune led the Cardinals on eight drives that netted 62 yards and three first downs. They went three-and-out five times.
There was no running game
Now, the Cardinals didn't play their starters, so no starting offensive line and no James Conner or Trey Benson. But even still, they gained only 36 yards on 17 carries.
At least there were no turnovers
If there was one bright side to the Cardinals' abysmal offensive night was the fact that they did not turn the ball over. They didn't fumble at all and no interceptions were thrown, so at least it was a turnover-free game.

Managers shouldn't look past Broncos RB RJ Harvey
Yahoo Fantasy's Matt Harmon and Justin Boone discuss why fantasy managers don't want to overlook Broncos rookie RB RJ Harvey. Hear the full conversation on the 'Yahoo Fantasy Forecast' podcast - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript For me, like Harvey is doing a little bit of what we're seeing Henderson do, but he doesn't seem to be getting like as much hype for it, right? Like you look at this preseason, 10 carries, 43 yards and a touchdown through these two preseason games, has a couple of catches as well. Don't know that he has the same receiving upside that Henderson has, but I just mean it as a fantasy asset, a guy that could really come on this year in a better offense in my opinion than what Henderson's in. And you know we saw this week that Harvey can get it done between the tackles too. I think that, you know, there's some concern that, you know, is he ready and do they have to kind of get him up to speed and pass pro and stuff? Is that why they brought JK Dobbins in? And I think there's some truth to all of that. But still, like Harvey this week showed he can find that little crease and he snuck through it and he scored on a nice little touchdown run. Him and JK Dobbins are going to be a great tandem together and I think we've seen in the last few years, especially teams going to these sort of two-man backfields where both guys can have fantasy value if the offense is good enough. And I think this offense is going to be good enough. I mean, we look at this team as a whole, right? And I think people need to get on the Broncos as like a potential Super Bowl contender if they aren't already. Close

Cardinals swept by Yankees after ninth inning collapse
This game, and this series for that matter, had a little bit of everything in it. There were highs, there were lows, and everything in between. But the end result of was bitter disappointment. Miles Mikolas took the ball for the Cardinals and allowed three runs in the top of the fourth. He ended up getting through five innings, so he didn't do poorly. After the Yankees jumped out to a 3-0 lead, the Cardinals punched back with a two-run double by Thomas Saggese that just snuck out of Cody Bellinger's reach. Alec Burleson tied the game in the fifth with a double of his own, and Yohel Pozo, using his special Player's Weekend bat with his son Paul's handprints on it, hit a home run to put St. Louis up 4-3. The Yankees threatened against Kyle Leahy, who was touched for three runs last night. Oli Marmol, just a half-inning prior to tying Aaron Boone for most manager ejections of the season, pulled Leahy and went to Riley O'Brien. He surrendered a sac fly to Bellinger to tie the game, but that was ultimately Leahy's run. O'Brien actually did a pretty good job. In the ninth, all hell broke loose. JoJo Romero came in and was wild everywhere he threw, and the defense also let him down. Saggese made a throwing error trying to nab Jose Caballero, who reached second. Romero walked Giancarlo Stanton and gave the intentional pass to Aaron Judge, but the defense let the Cardinals down again. Two runs scored when Saggese made his second error of the inning. Jazz Chisholm Jr. grounded into a force out to add another run, and Paul Goldschmidt, who made himself right back at home in the finale, drove in the final run with a double. The Cardinals did nothing in the bottom half. Defensive lapses, missed opportunities, bullpen woes cost Cards I'm only going to get into one takeaway today because that was just a painful loss, and this is squarely on the Cardinals. I don't want to say the Yankees didn't earn it, because they did. They took advantage of the Cardinals mistakes and ultimately got the job done. The normally stout Cardinals defense really laid an egg. The Cardinals simply shot themselves in the foot. Sooner or later, without Ryan Helsley, Phil Maton and Steven Matz, the bullpen was going to have a hiccup. Leahy has certainly struggled the past two games, and Romero has as well. In my opinion, those guys have been a bit overused, and I don't blame that on Oli necessarily. He doesn't have much to work with, but you could tell that they were a little bit tired. Once Romero threw a wild pitch to allow Caballero to advance to third base, the game was pretty much over, as he clearly didn't have it. But the way that unfolded was just so painful to watch. Even worse was that the Yankees defense gave the Cardinals plenty of chances, but they just didn't cash in, and so, New York came out on top and pulled off the sweep. That may have been the worst loss of the year for the Cardinals. They head to Miami to take on the Marlins next.

Broncos worked out 3 fullbacks on Sunday (and signed 1 of them)
With their starting fullback and hybrid fullback both sidelined with injuries, the Denver Broncos brought in three free agents for tryouts over the weekend, according to the NFL's transaction wire. The Broncos hosted Adam Prentice, Khari Blasingame and Troy Hairston. Prentice won the tryout and was signed on Sunday evening. Denver had room for Prentice on the roster after placing offensive lineman Nick Gargiulo (knee) on injured reserve. Prentice (6-0, 245 pounds) started his career with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of South Carolina (and Colorado State before that) in 2021. After being cut by Denver, Prentice spent the last four years with the New Orleans Saints. He's now back with the Broncos following injuries to Michael Burton (hamstring) and Nate Adkins (ankle). Blasingame (6-0, 233 pounds) has spent time with four NFL teams, winning Super Bowl LIX with the Philadelphia Eagles last season. Hairston (5-11, 245 pounds) spent the first three years of his career with the Houston Texans before a stint with the Cleveland Browns this offseason. Depending on the health of Burton, Prentice will have a chance to serve as Denver's early-season fullback. Social: Follow Broncos Wire on Facebook and Twitter/X!
