Vision 2047 document: Shivpal, Akhilesh Yadav accuse Uttar Pradesh Government of ignoring present-day issues
In a post on X, Akhilesh Yadav shared an image carrying the words "REASON DOCUMENT", with a message in Hindi that the State BJP government should not release a "vision document" but rather a "reason document" explaining why it had failed to fulfil even a single promise made earlier.
Shivpal Yadav called the Vision 2047 a "fictional" exercise and accused the government of being a "trader of tomorrow's dreams" without solutions for current problems. The State Assembly is holding a special overnight sitting to discuss the document during the ongoing Monsoon session.
He alleged that while the BJP had promised to double farmers' income by 2022, farmers in 2025 were being forced to sell their produce at half the price, yet the party was showing them dreams of prosperity in 2047. He termed this "not a Kisan Credit Card, but a Kisan Credit Bluff." The Jaswantnagar MLA mocked the BJP's promise of employment in 2047, saying that according to the ruling party's timeline, today's unemployed would be joining jobs as elderly people 22 years from now.
On health infrastructure, he pointed out that in 2025 there were no stretchers in government facilities and patients were being given saline drips hung from trees, questioning the promise of digital hospitals by 2047.
On crime, Mr. Yadav said the BJP claimed it would end criminal activities by 2047, but in 2025 criminals were receiving "guard-of-honour" treatment. "The BJP's Amrit Kaal is actually Apradh Kaal (era of crime)," he charged.
He further slammed the promise of smart classrooms by 2047, saying that in 2025 children were still studying on broken benches, calling it not a smart classroom but a "start-stop-start classroom."
Shivpal Yadav accused the BJP of redefining development as putting its own nameplate on works done by the Samajwadi Party and clicking photographs. He also targeted the claim of eliminating poverty by 2047, calling it a "long-term plan to keep the poor hungry."
Calling the Vision 2047 a political instalment scheme where a new dream was sold before every election and old promises forgotten each year, Shivpal Yadav said, "Don't sell dreams of 2047, give an account of the reality of 2025. The people now say — we want justice today, not slogans for the future."
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had on Monday (August 11, 2025) said the four-day Monsoon session will include a 24-hour discussion on "Vision 2047 - Viksit U.P.", an action plan for the next 25 years prepared with expert inputs, aiming for a developed, self-reliant State by 2047 alongside India's national goals.

Prime Minister to flag off key metro links in Kolkata on August 22
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate three metro stretches, including the last phase of the much-awaited east-west corridor (Green Line) of the metro rail in Kolkata on August 22. The metro stretches to be flagged off include the Noapara to Jai Hind (airport) stretch in the Yellow Line; the Sealdah to Esplanade stretch in the Green Line; and the Beleghata to Hemanta Mukhopadhyay stretch in the Orange Line, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said in a letter to Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sukanta Majumdar. The Prime Minister's programme is scheduled to take place at the Jessore Road metro station of the Yellow Line, the letter further said. The inauguration programmes were 'a historic gift for West Bengal before Durga Puja', Mr. Majumdar said on Wednesday. The announcement assumes significance as it involves the inauguration of key metro links in the city and its suburbs, including the Yellow Line link to the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, and the much-awaited under-river Green Line linking the key business districts of Howrah, Kolkata, and Bidhannagar. Currently, the Green Line runs between two separate stretches from east to west — Salt Lake Sector V and Sealdah (9.4 km), and Esplanade to Howrah Maidan (4.8 km). However, the completion of the two kilometre-long metro connection between Sealdah and Esplanade had been pending due to soil subsidence and water leakage issues in Kolkata's Bowbazar area. Once the Sealdah and Esplanade stations are operationally connected, the Green Line will run a net distance of 16.55 km between Howrah Maidan and Sector V. It will cover 12 stations, six of which will be elevated, and the rest would be underground. Currently, the 18.13 km-long Yellow Line is under construction. The Prime Minister on August 22 will inaugurate its 7 km-long first phase between Noapara and Jai Hind (airport) stations, allowing flight-bound passengers from across the city to avail the metro to reach the airport. Meanwhile, the Orange Line, which is set to cover a total distance of 32 km between Kavi Subhash (New Garia) and Jai Hind (airport) stations, is partially operational, and partially under construction by the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited. The Prime Minister is set to inaugurate the second phase connection between Hemanta Mukhopadhyay (Ruby crossing) and Beleghata (metropolitan) stations of the Orange Line.

Governor RN Ravi says crime on the rise in TN; DMK says his remarks laughable
CHENNAI: In his customary address on the eve of the 79th Independence Day, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi said that there is a need to address the challenges the State faced and mentioned four in particular, including education and social discrimination of the poor and marginalised, alarming rising suicide rates, increasing drug abuse among youth, and surge in sexual crimes against women and children. However, the ruling DMK dismissed his remarks as being in line with what it termed as Ravi's agenda of acting like an agent of the BJP. Highlighting some of the parameters where TN had performed well in contrast to the Governor's statements, DMK's principal secretary and Municipal Administration Minister KN Nehru said even Union Home Minister Amit Shah would laugh if he read Ravi's remarks. He said the Governor's remarks were a result of his frustration over a PhD scholar's refusal to accept the degree from him during the convocation of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University this week and the boycott of the At-Home reception on Independence Day by various parties.
