Tigers extend Guardians' losing streak to 8 games with homers from Pérez and McKinstry
José Ramírez went deep for the Guardians, who are on their longest skid since dropping nine straight in 2021.
Tyler Holton (4-3) pitched 2 2/3 innings of one-hit ball to earn the win. Will Vest went 1 1/3 innings for his 14th save in 17 opportunities.
Steven Kwan gave the Guardians some hope in the ninth with a two-out double down the left-field line, but Kyle Manzardo hit a grounder to Vest for the final out.
Detroit's Reese Olson made his first start since May 17 and allowed only one run on six hits in 4 1/3 innings. The right-hander was out nearly seven weeks due to right ring finger inflammation.
Pérez tied it at 1 in the third inning with a drive to center field off Cleveland starter Slade Cecconi (3-4). McKinstry then led off the fourth by connecting on a curve ball over the wall in right-center for his second go-ahead homer of the season.
Ramírez snapped an 0-for-21 drought when he put a 94.8 mph fastball from Olson into the right field stands for his 14th homer of the season. It was also the first time he had gone deep since June 14 at Seattle.
Cecconi went six innings and threw a career-high 105 pitches. He gave up six hits and struck out five.
Cleveland had the bases loaded with two out in the eight inning, but Daniel Schneemann grounded out to second baseman Gleyber Torres on the first pitch of the at-bat to end the frame.
The AL Central-leading Tigers are 6-0 this season when McKinstry homers.
RHP Casey Mize (8-2, 2.86 ERA) takes the hill for Detroit against Cleveland LHP Logan Allen (5-6, 4.27).

For the third straight year, the Missouri Tigers have celebrated the Fourth of July with a commitment. This year, three-star defensive back Tony Forney Jr. pledged to the Tigers on Friday, choosing Mizzou over Auburn, Georgia, Pittsburgh and Wisconsin. Advertisement The 5-foot-11, 180-pound safety is ranked No. 347 nationally, No. 67 positionally and No. 85 in Georgia, according to the 247Sports Composite Ranking. Forney announced his decision during an Instagram livestream. Forney took an official visit to Mizzou on May 30, and he also made official visits to Auburn, Wisconsin and Pittsburgh in June. He also held offers from several other power conference schools, including Texas A&M, LSU and Clemson. Forney is the 10th commitment to the Tigers' Class of 2026, and he's the seventh since June 1. Forney is also the second Georgia commit of the 2026 recruiting class after three-star offensive lineman Brandon Anderson committed to the Tigers last Sunday. Former Eagles Super Bowl champ Bryan Braman battling rare, aggressive cancer: 'In the fight of his life'
Super Bowl champion and former NFL linebacker Bryan Braman is "in the fight of his life" after being diagnosed with a "very rare" form of cancer. Braman, who helped the Eagles defeat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII to bring the Lombardi Trophy to Philadelphia, was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, according to a GoFundMe campaign set up on his behalf in February. The fundraiser did not mention what form of cancer Braman was diagnosed with, other than describing it as "very rare," but stated that he would need to undergo an "extensive 12-week treatment program" in Washington. Braman's agent, Sean Stellato, told KPRC 2 that the 38-year-old former NFL player "is in the fight of his life," but was hopeful that he would beat the cancer. "At Stellato Sports, Bryan Braman has always stood for strength, resilience and leadership," Stellato said. "He is a pillar and a staple of the underdog. Now, in the face of cancer, he embodies those qualities more than ever. If there is one person that I know that can beat cancer, it is Bryan Braman, who I have always considered family. "He's in the fight of his life. Please support Bryan and keep him in your prayers." The latest update on the fundraiser from last month stated that Braman had undergone "CAR-T cell reprogramming treatment." While initially showing signs of being effective, the organizer of the fundraiser said that "the cancer has grown exponentially faster, and is now growing around his vital organs." Braman spent the majority of his seven-year NFL career with the Eagles. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Houston Texans in 2011, where he played for three seasons. He signed with the Eagles in 2014 and rejoined the team again right before the playoffs in 2017. He would go on to register one tackle in their Super Bowl victory.
