Sometimes, in the world of movies, unexpected changes can lead to big breaks. There was a film in the late 90s that became a major hit and changed an actor's career forever. This actor stepped into a role that was originally meant for another famous star but ended up making the film a blockbuster. After this success, the actor suddenly stopped working with the film's director for nearly two decades, surprising many fans and industry insiders. Who is this superstar?
The actor was Akshay Kumar, and the movie was Jaanwar. Initially, the lead role in Jaanwar was supposed to be played by Ajay Devgn, but due to some scheduling conflicts, Ajay couldn't take the part. This opened the door for Akshay Kumar to step in. At that time, Akshay was still on his way to stardom and this opportunity helped him gain a lot of recognition. Alongside Akshay, the film featured popular actresses Karisma Kapoor and Shilpa Shetty, whose performances also contributed to the movie's success. What was the storyline of Jaanwar and its box office reception?
Jaanwar tells the emotional story of a man with a dark past who wants to change his life for the better. After adopting an orphaned child, he struggles to leave behind his old ways and become a responsible father. The film mixes action, drama, and heartfelt moments, making it a hit with audiences. Released in 1999, Jaanwar performed very well at the box office, earning over Rs 25 crore, which was made on budget of Rs 4.5 crore. The film turned out to be significant success at the time and helped cement Akshay Kumar's rising stardom in Bollywood. Why did Akshay Kumar stop working with Suneel Darshan?
Despite the success of Jaanwar, Akshay Kumar and director Suneel Darshan did not collaborate again for almost 20 years. The director later revealed that after their work together on Jaanwar, Akshay chose to take a different path and work with other filmmakers. Suneel Darshan mentioned in his many interviews that while their professional relationship paused, he respected Akshay's decision to explore new opportunities. This long gap surprised many, considering how well their first collaboration had done. During those years apart, Akshay Kumar continued to build his career independently, becoming one of Bollywood's most popular and versatile actors.

Lights, Camera, Policy: Delhi To Get New Filming Plan To Attract Global Eye

New Delhi: Delhi is eyeing a place on the global film map, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announcing that her government will roll out a new policy to position the national capital as an international shooting destination. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Celebrating India Film Festival (CIFF) at Siri Fort, Ms Gupta said the policy will introduce a single-window clearance system for approving film and other shoot applications. The government also plans to build world-class industry infrastructure to make Delhi a full-fledged film hub. "We are deeply committed to transforming Delhi into a film hub," she said. Rs 30 Crore For International Film Festival Alongside the policy, the CM announced that the government will co-organise an International Film Festival in the capital with a budget allocation of Rs 30 crore. The event aims to bring together filmmakers, distributors and creative professionals from across the globe, while also showcasing Delhi's culture and diversity. Ms Gupta described the festival as a milestone in Delhi's cultural journey. "Imagining such a magnificent event in the heart of Delhi - and then turning it into reality - is no easy task. This festival has sent out a message that Delhi is now moving towards becoming a new centre for film production and cultural expression," she said. From Stage To Screen - Keeping Talent In Delhi The CM pointed out that despite housing the National School of Drama (NSD), Delhi has never had a serious initiative to develop its own film industry. "Until now, Mumbai has been synonymous with the film and entertainment industry. Talent from Delhi that manages to make headway often moves to Mumbai for better opportunities. Why should people learn acting in Delhi, only to be forced to seek work in Mumbai?" she asked. Ms Gupta said her government aims to ensure that everyone involved in cinema, television and OTT production has access to everything from shooting to post-production within the city. This, she said, would mean local artists no longer have to migrate for work. Boosting Tourism And Creative Economy The government has earmarked Rs 3 crore specifically to turn Delhi into a hotspot for film production. Officials expect a sharp rise in shooting applications in the coming year, with the single-window system set to streamline approvals. "This is not just about films," Ms Gupta added. "With this new film policy, Delhi will no longer be known solely for politics or history, but also for its culture, creativity and cinematic locations." The International Film Festival will screen films and documentaries from India and abroad on varied themes, offering a platform for emerging talent and fostering global collaborations. City officials believe the initiative will also give a major push to tourism and hospitality in Delhi. Preparations for the festival are already underway, with industry watchers calling it a potential game-changer for Delhi's cultural and economic profile.

New policy to make Delhi a film shooting hub

New Delhi: Chief minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday announced that a new film policy is being framed to position the capital as an international shooting destination. The policy will include a single-window clearance system for approving film and other shoot applications, along with comprehensive plans to develop the necessary infrastructure to transform Delhi into a global film hub. Gupta also announced that an international film festival will be organised in the city and a budget of Rs 30 crore has been earmarked for it. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Celebrating India Film Festival (CIFF) at Siri Fort Auditorium, Gupta said the govt is committed to turning Delhi into a cultural and cinematic centre. "A film policy is being shaped to establish Delhi as an international shooting destination. Applications for film and other shoots will be approved through a single-window system," she said, adding, the govt is planning to develop the film industry in the capital and provide related facilities. The event was attended by several political dignitaries and many eminent figures from the film industry. The govt expects a surge in film shoot applications and plans to fast-track approvals to encourage filmmakers to explore Delhi's locations and stories. She said that this festival has sent out a message that Delhi is now becoming a new centre for film production and cultural expression. "With this new film policy, Delhi will no longer be known just for politics or history, but also for its culture, creativity, and cinematic appeal," she said. Gupta highlighted the irony that while Delhi is home to prestigious institutions like the National School of Drama (NSD), talent still migrates to Mumbai for opportunities. "Why should people learn acting in Delhi only to be forced to seek work in Mumbai?" she asked. The CM said the govt now aims to provide complete support for the film and television ecosystem—from shooting to post-production—within the capital. "Local artistes should not have to leave Delhi. Today's event marks a milestone in that direction," she said. Gupta added that the upcoming film festival will not only showcase films and documentaries from India and abroad but also highlight Delhi's rich cultural diversity. Hosting an international film festival in Delhi will also boost tourism, for which preparations are already underway, she said. Mahavatar Narsimha Director Ashwin Kumar reveals how his film found a special place in hearts of Muslim audiences, says ‘it strengthened their...'

Ashwin Kumar's debut animated mythological film Mahavatar Narsimha is making waves at the box office. The film has not only shattered records but also transcended cultural and religious boundaries, receiving heartfelt praise from audiences and critics alike. The movie, which revolves around Hiranyakashyap, a demon who challenges Vishnu by proclaiming himself a god, has somehow found a special place in the hearts of Muslim audiences. A Cross-Faith Story Grounded in Universal Emotions In an interview with NDTV, the film's director said that the movie has an interfaith concept centered on universal emotions including love and faith. Citing an example, Kumar explained that just as a parent loves their child without limits, similarly, the divine's love for humanity is boundless. This emotion resonated with the audience, contributing to the film's great success. Kumar further revealed that audiences from different communities, including Muslim viewers, appreciated the movie and told him it has strengthened their personal faith. Making his point, Ashwin said that the message is not about religious conversion but emphasizes how the essence of faith works—whether it's faith in God, energy, or the universe—and the power of surrendering to that belief. About Mahavatar Narsimha Helmed by Ashwin Kumar, written by Jayapurna Das, and backed by Kleem Productions and Hombale Films, the movie focuses on themes of faith and devotion. The film was released in both 2D and 3D formats. Mahavatar Narsimha was released on July 25 and, in just 15 days, has minted Rs 175 crore.
