(KRON) — Laura Owens, the daughter of popular Bay Area radio host Ronn Owens of 'The Ronn Owens Program,' was indicted by a grand jury in Maricopa County, Ariz. on May 1 for multiple felony charges related to an alleged paternity scheme involving 'Bachelor' star Clayton Echard.
Bay Area workers 'broadly,' don't think they have to work hard, says Reddit CEO
Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell's office began investigating Laura Owens in July of 2024 at the request of a Superior Court Judge. The request stemmed from 'several inconsistent statements' made by Laura Owens during a paternity hearing involving Owens Echard, Mitchell said in a statement Tuesday.
'Owens originally filed a lawsuit seeking child support from Echard, then dropped her claim, alleging she'd had a miscarriage,' Mitchell's statement reads. 'MCAO investigators found that between May 2023 and June 2024, Owens altered an ultrasound image, fabricated a pregnancy video, and lied multiple times under oath.'

Employee discovers original gaming console in company trash: 'They still sell for quite a bit'

If you're a video game enthusiast, you'd be surprised at what you can find in your local e-waste dumpster. One Reddit user shared their haul in r/OriginalXbox, much to the envy of commenters. What happened? The original poster stated that they found an Xbox, complete with several games and controllers, in the e-waste dumpster outside their workplace. "It baffles me someone would put this thing in an e-waste when they still sell for quite a bit in Australia as gaming wasn't too big here when this console came out," the OP wrote. A photo shows the incredible find, and despite its age, the system looks relatively new. However, the poster noted that the system does have a few glitches, such as needing to power on the Xbox with the eject button, the fan being loud, and discs not always being read correctly. Still, commenters assured the OP that some of these issues could be fixed with a little TLC. "Open it up, YouTube videos, replace the capacitors, clean it up," one person suggested. "To me that's just sad how they throw away these retro games. Some ppl just don't understand how good these old game consoles are now smh," another said. "The stuff people throw away sometimes is just wild," someone else shared. "No doubt countless perfectly operational valuable and priceless things go to waste all the time." Why does e-waste matter? Electronic waste is one of the worst forms of pollution because it leaches toxic metals into the air and soil. In some ways, it's worse than plastic because of the extent of chemical pollution and the fact that e-waste is often more challenging and costly to recycle. Because of these difficulties in handling e-waste, only about a quarter is recycled worldwide each year, according to a United Nations report. In turn, the global economy suffers from the loss of valuable metals such as gold, copper, and silver. What do you usually do with your old electronics? Store them at home Donate them Trade them for cash Throw them away Click your choice to see results and speak your mind. Sircel reported that an estimated $57 billion is lost annually when these materials aren't recovered, leading to higher labor and production costs. If electronics were properly recycled, it would put much less strain on the environment and benefit businesses and consumers as well. Electronic waste also harms humans, especially in developing countries, since the majority of electronics are shipped there for processing. Women and children who work in informal recycling centers are often exposed to thousands of harmful chemicals, which can result in lung and reproductive problems, per the World Health Organization. Are companies doing anything about this? Several major retailers, including Amazon, Apple, and Best Buy, offer trade-in programs that allow customers to exchange unwanted electronics for perks such as store credit or cash back. If the traded devices aren't eligible for credit or cannot be refurbished, they're recycled for free. What else is being done about e-waste? Technological solutions for electronic pollution are also springing up. For instance, some companies are adding mechanical arms to recycling facilities to increase productivity and efficiency, and artificial intelligence-powered robots are also being employed to handle more e-waste. If you have any gadgets hiding in your junk drawers, consider sending them to the startup Trashie with its innovative Tech Take Back Box. It will take care of recycling the items and give you awesome rewards in return, including discounts on shoes and clothing, and food delivery credits. There are endless ways to make money off your old electronics, so choose the method that works best for you. The Block viewers make major demand after noticing disappointing detail: 'Never get it right'

This season of The Block has been a divisive one. If viewers aren't complaining about the judges, it's about the manufactured drama, or even the lack of drama. Now, The Block fans have called out the five houses after being left disappointed by a major part of the design process. One viewer took to Reddit and wrote, "Please. PLEASE can we see more colour this season?! "There is too much brown, beige, monochrome BLAH this season. I know that colour can be polarising and they want to sell the homes. But these homes are already boring by design because they are all identical in their layout. Somebody, please try to stand out. These rooms are on life support and somebody has to bring some life to these houses." Many others agreed, with one person responding, "Marty [Fox] being a judge has hurt the teams who do step outside the box tbh because he is so damn critical of anything not within his idea of what sells. RELATED: The Block viewers call for 'new judges' after divisive room reveals: 'Baffles me' 'Insane' reason The Block viewers are skipping the first 5 minutes of every episode The Block fans divided over this year's season for one major reason: 'Stupid' "Contestants HAVE to win judging to sell their homes and afford to finish. Which means they have to please three judges, who never get it right, compared to the public's view or the bidders. It's created year after year carbon copies." Another wrote, "It looks to be as though the producers have deliberately set the contestants a very tight colour palette to choose from. As Cam keeps saying 'It's a real estate show!' so you think they're trying to engage no black rooms or designs as they want to maximise financial return. "This show has moved a long way and not for the better. Originality and quirkiness has been stamped out in favour of financial gain. I fear for the rest of the show." Others suggested that it wasn't that colour is "polarising", but it's just hard to do well. Some teams have used colour sparingly throughout the design process, like Sonny and Alicia in their kids' bedrooms, but others, like Robby and Matt, and Britt and Taz, have decided to stick to a more neutral colour palette. "Neutral colours and white walls are not timeless. It's the fashion of our time, and has been since the turn of the millennium," said a third. "Colour is making a comeback, and we'll look back at the white walls of the early 21st century and think how boring we were." Others didn't agree, with one viewer writing, "When you're building a home to sell, you never put a lot of colour in it. You keep all the tones as neutral as possible and use colour to create accents in your styling. This is so potential buyers won't be turned off by too much colour, and if a buyer wants to add more colour after they purchase it, then they can do that themselves. This is standard real estate practice." "If I were on the show I would make bolder decisions to make my house stand out and look different from the others," the OP responded. "Could it be a mistake? Sure, but at least it is trying something. If I were a buyer in this market, I would pass over these because they, like many mass produced, cookie cutter, suburban neighbourhoods simply look soulless. Give me character over mundane any day." Swifties Defend Taylor Swift's Controversial Album Art

Taylor Swift revealed the artwork for her upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl, and some people aren't fans of what they're seeing. On Wednesday, Taylor shared details about her twelfth studio album, including the cover art, tracklist, surprise features, and the release date. "And, baby, that's show business for you," Taylor wrote on her Instagram post, which has amassed over 9 million likes. The album is set to release on Oct. 3 and feature producers Max Martin, Shellback, and Taylor herself — the same team behind some of her biggest hits on 1989 and Reputation. It will include 12 tracks, with a special collaboration from Sabrina Carpenter, who also opened for Taylor during her Eras Tour. Here's the official tracklist:1. "The Fate of Ophelia"2. "Elizabeth Taylor"3. "Opalite"4. "Father Figure"5. "Eldest Daughter"6. "Ruin the Friendship"7. "Actually Romantic"8. "Wi$h Li$t"9. "Wood"10. "CANCELLED!"11. "Honey"12. "The Life of a Showgirl (Feat. Sabrina Carpenter)" And while we don't know what the songs are about just yet, that hasn't stopped fans from theorizing about the meaning behind them — and, I have to admit, the theories are really good. Taylor has been through a lot since her Eras tour, from new love to possible friendship breakups, so it will be interesting to see what gets addressed. In fact, Taylor shed some light on The Life of a Showgirl while appearing alongside her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, on the New Heights podcast, which he cohosts with his brother, Jason Kelce. During the 2-hour long conversation, she shared a ton of behind-the-scenes details about herself, their relationship, and, of course, her music. Despite the comments being turned off on her Instagram, fans found other outlets to express their excitement, including X (better known as Twitter): "Taylor teaming up with Max Martin and Shellback again? This is about to be a pop masterpiece for the ages." "SO PROUD OF YOU SHOWGIRL!!!!!" "And suddenly I'm off work that day." "So so so excited for this new era! Thank you for sharing your words and your feelings with us !!!" "NEW TAYLOR ALBUM LET'S GOOO." But along with the love she was being showered with, there also came backlash. Some people weren't impressed by the way Taylor was dressed in her various shots for her album, with one commenter even claiming that the multi-Grammy winner is "not a model I want my young daughter to idolize anymore." Others believed she was trying to mimic other popular artists like Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, and more with her showgirl outfits: But the reactions didn't stop there: Fans on Reddit were not feeling the criticism and called out the pressure parents place on celebrities to "help raise" their children, and the hypocrisy women go through as they're expected to mature in their work but not in their looks. I'm going to have to side with the positive comments here. Women, let alone female celebrities, should be allowed to experiment and grow with their art. Expecting artists to look the same and produce the same art over and over again is unrealistic and unfair. Taylor has always been open about the various stages she's going through in life, and this is no different. Whether you love her, hate her, or hate to love her, Taylor will always find a way to get the people talking!
