Amit Shah explains how Operation Mahadev was carried out to kill 3 Pahalgam attackers
Addressing the Lok Sabha, Shah said Operation Mahadev was carried out jointly by the Army, CRPF and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
"In a joint Operation Mahadev, the Indian Army, CRPF and J&K Police have neutralised three terrorists who were involved in the Pahalgam terror attack," Shah said.
The home minister said that the three terrorists have been identified as Suleiman, Afghan and Jibran.
'In Operation Mahadev, Suleman alias Faizal..., Afghan and Jibran, these three terrorists were killed in a joint operation of the Indian Army, CRPF and J&K Police...' Shah said in the Lok Sabha. "Suleman was an A-category commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba. Afghan was an A-category Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist. And Jibran was also an A-grade terrorist... All three terrorists who killed our citizens in the Baisaran valley have been eliminated..."
How Operation Mahadev was carried out
Union home minister Amit Shah told the Lok Sabha that Operation Mahadev began on the night of the Pahalgam killings.
'A security meeting was held. In that meeting, it was decided that the killers should not be allowed to flee the country and escape to Pakistan. We made solid arrangements to ensure this,' Shah said.
The home minister further said that on May 22, the Intelligence Bureau received intelligence about the presence of terrorists in a certain area.
'From May 22 to July 22, continuous efforts were made to verify this information,' Shah told the House. "Our Army officers kept patrolling in the cold at high altitudes to pick up their signals. The CRPF also kept patrolling. On July 22, we got success. Through sensors, we got confirmation about the presence of terrorists in the area."

PM Modi, Shah meet President amid buzz over VP poll, cabinet reshuffle
NEW DELHI: Amid speculation that the Vice Presidential election may be held soon following Jagdeep Dhankhar's resignation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah met President Droupadi Murmu separately at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday. The back-to-back meetings of the top government functionaries have triggered speculation about an impending cabinet reshuffle or a key political move linked to the Vice President's post. While no official details of the meetings were shared, the timing has raised eyebrows, especially in light of the ongoing Parliament deadlock and other pressing national issues. In a post on X, the Rashtrapati Bhavan said: 'Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.' In another post, it added: 'Union Minister for Home Affairs and Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.' The Prime Minister's meeting comes amid the Opposition's demand for a debate on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar, ahead of the Assembly polls in the state. Shah's meeting, meanwhile, gains significance as the Rajya Sabha prepares to take up the statutory resolution passed by the Lok Sabha to extend President's Rule in Manipur beyond August 13. Though such meetings are often described as courtesy calls—especially following foreign visits—the presence of both leaders at Rashtrapati Bhavan within hours has intensified talk of significant political developments. Adding to the context is international pressure: US President Donald Trump recently announced a 25 percent tariff on Indian exports and hinted at penalties over India's continued trade with Russia. According to sources, a major cabinet reshuffle could follow the Monsoon Session of Parliament, which concludes on August 21 and the Vice Presidential election is scheduled for September 9. This could involve the removal of a few of the ministers in the government and new faces could be taken on board in the government. Key ministries including Finance, External Affairs, Information and Broadcasting, and Petroleum and Natural Gas may see new appointments, sources added.

Amid 'Bangladeshi' Row, Bengal SIR Buzz Amit Shah To Meet State BJP MPs Tomorrow
Last Updated: The meeting between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the BJP's Bengal MPs is scheduled for the same day the TMC is holding a virtual huddle Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to hold a crucial meeting with BJP MPs from West Bengal in the national capital on Monday. This comes as political tension escalates over the 'Bangladeshi" row in New Delhi. The controversy has attracted a barrage of criticism from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress, who have accused the Centre of targeting Bengalis and their language via police verification drive in BJP-ruled states against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. Although there has been no official statement from the BJP, party insiders indicate that the meeting will focus on addressing these allegations. During a rally at Durgapur in July, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made it clear that the BJP will not be defensive on this issue. 'This is why infiltration is being encouraged, their fake documents are being created. An entire ecosystem has been developed here. This is a threat to West Bengal, the country, and Bengali culture," he had said. He added: 'They (TMC) want to challenge the Constitution and constitutional institutions. The TMC is now speaking openly in their favour. Let me make it clear, those who are not citizens of India, those who have infiltrated illegally, will face action under the Constitution. The BJP will not allow any conspiracy against Bengal's pride to be successful. This is Modi's guarantee." The TMC has since labelled this stance as BJP's 'audacity" and intensified efforts to portray the saffron party as 'Bangla birodhi" (opposed to Bengali speakers), a label the BJP MPs are eager to dismiss. In another development, sources have suggested that a special intensive revision (SIR) for West Bengal is also likely to be part of the meeting's agenda. This voter list revision, akin to the one in poll-bound Bihar, reportedly includes sensitive assessment on demographic shifts and cross-border dynamics, which could impact both electoral strategy and security planning in the region. The SIR in Bihar has sparked protests from opposition parties. Earlier on Sunday, TMC leader Derek O'Brien termed the exercise as 'silent invisible rigging". The anticipated meeting between Shah and the Bengal MPs is scheduled for the same day the TMC is holding a virtual huddle. Mamata Banerjee is expected to address all her party MPs, many of whom are in Delhi for the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament. This meeting comes at a time when the BJP is reassessing its approach in West Bengal following a mixed performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Several MPs from the state have expressed concerns about internal coordination, grassroots support, and ideological messaging. While there is no official confirmation yet of the meeting's agenda, political observers believe it could shape the BJP's future strategy in Bengal ahead of the 2026 assembly polls. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 7th Pay Commission DA update: Good news for employees as govt likely to announce DA hike on THIS date; check details
Representational Image 7th Pay Commission DA update: In a significant update for the millions of central government employees and pensioners who are awaiting a DA hike under the 7th Pay Commission, reports suggest that the Union government could announce the same as early as this month. When will DA hike be announced? According to media reports, citing sources, the Narendra Modi government is likely to announce the DA hike by August 15, but the benefits will be retrospectively implemented from the month of July. Over 5o lakh central government employees and 62 lakh pensioners are eagerly awaiting the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission as well as Dearness Allowance (DA) hike under the current 7th Pay Commission, which will cease to be in force on December 31, 2025. How much DA hike can employees expect? The DA hike will depend on the All India Consumer Price Index (AICPI-IW), which increased by by 0.5 points to 144 in May 2025. The index has increased for three consecutive months, from 143 in March, 143.5 in April and 144 in May. Considering this trend, its likely that dearness allowance could increase from 3-4 percent from July. The final DA hike will be determined by June 2025 AICPI-IW data, which will be released in August. In case of a 3 percent increase, the DA will be hiked to 58%, from the current 55%, while a 4 percent hike would mean a 59% DA for central government employees. DA is reviewed twice a year, and adjusted according to inflation based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI). When will 8th Pay Commission be implemented? Going by the implementation of previous pay commissions, it usually takes about 18 to 24 months for the government to implement the recommendations. Thus, its unlikely that 8th Pay Commission would be implemented before mid-2027. Currently, 7th Pay Commission recommendations are in force, and will remain so till December 2025. A new pay commission is constituted every 10 years which tenders suggestions for revision of salary and pension of central government employees and pensioners in wake of the prevailing economic scenario in the country. The 8th Pay Commission was announced by the Union government in January this year.
