Ex-ESPN presenter says Shannon Sharpe is finished at the network after $50million rape lawsuit

Daily Mail7 hours ago

Questions continue to circulate about when Shannon Sharpe could make his return to ESPN after the Pro Football Hall-of-Famer took a step back from his appearances on the air.
That came after the former tight end was accused of rape by a woman identified as Jane Doe.
After that suit was filed, Sharpe denied the allegations, but decided to stop going on air for the summer. Additionally, Sharpe cancelled a national tour of his 'Nightcap' podcast with Chad 'Ochocinco' Johnson.
With this speculation continuing to ramp up as we get closer to NFL season, former ESPN employee Dan Le Batard isn't quite convinced that Sharpe will be allowed back.
'We probably all know at this point that Shannon Sharpe is not likely to ever work at ESPN again, right? I think we can reasonably assume Shannon Sharpe would like it to look like he has a chance to return,' said Le Batard.
'I don't know if you can be Disney and allow any of what happened there.'
The attorney representing Sharpe's ex-girlfriend in her $50million suit released audio of two conversations between the former couple, which Sharpe's attorney has dismissed as 'misleading.'
'I'm not really interested in getting choked,' the woman is heard saying in one tape recording first published by TMZ.
'I may choke you in public,' a man's voice, believed to Sharpe's, is said heard saying. 'Big black guy chokes small white woman.'
The woman responded after a brief pause: 'It's not a good look, Shannon.'
'Not a good look that you did what the s*** you did to me,' the man's voice fired back, although it's difficult to say what he was referring to.
The tape is eerily similar to another call previously released by the office of Doe's attorney, Tony Buzbee, to DailyMail.com in which Sharpe is heard saying: 'I'm gonna f***ing choke the s*** out of you when I see you.'
Sharpe's attorney has confirmed the authenticity of that recording, but claimed his client was speaking 'in the heat of the moment' and the violent threat was 'not intended.'
Sharpe has denied the allegations and accused the plaintiff of being financially motivated, although his attorney has confirmed he previously offered at least $10 million to settle the case with his accuser.

Delap shows promise in Jackson's absence ahead of Benfica showdown

PHILADELPHIA, June 24 (Reuters) - Chelsea's new striker Liam Delap scored his first goal for the club on Tuesday to help the London side secure a spot in the Club World Cup round of 16 with a 3-0 win against Esperance de Tunis. Delap, a 30 million pounds ($40.84 million) signing from Ipswich Town earlier this month, has settled in well and his quick progress will please coach Enzo Maresca given Chelsea will be without striker Nicolas Jackson against Benfica on Saturday following his red card against Flamengo. One of the summer's most-wanted young strikers, Delap looks like he can give Chelsea the spark they were missing with his excitement and energy. Maresca is pleased with what he is seeing from the forward and expects big things from him. KEY QUOTES: Chelsea manager Maresca: "I'm pleased with Liam, with him scoring for us, but against Flamengo he had three clear chances to score goals, so that is already a good feeling because that means that he's there, he's in the right position, he's doing well. Unfortunately, he didn't score against Flamengo, and tonight he scored. We know that Liam is going to score goals with us, and we don't have any doubt about that. "The process quite quick with Liam, and the reason why is because we know him, and he knows us in the way we want to play. So, for instance, for Dario Essugo, or for Mamadou Sarr, or even for Andrey that he was just with us last pre-season, it's going to be a little bit more complicated. "They need more time because they don't know the way we want to play exactly. But Liam, as I said, we know each other very well. So, the process for him is quite quick, and then it's also because he's a very good player." ($1 = 0.7346 pounds)
