BJP spokesperson expelled over criticism of party's 'treatment' of Dhankhar, Satyapal Malik
According to party officials, the action followed a disciplinary process initiated in June. BJP state disciplinary committee chairperson Onkar Singh Lakhawat said a show-cause notice had been issued to Janu on June 20, seeking an explanation for his comments.
"He failed to justify his actions, and the committee decided to expel him for six years," Lakhawat said.
The controversy had risen after a purported video of Janu was widely circulated on social media platforms. In the video, Janu is heard criticising senior BJP leaders over what he described as the "humiliating treatment" of Malik, who had served as the governor of several states and was once the party's national vice-president.
Malik died earlier this week after a prolonged illness at the age of 79.
Janu also referred to Dhankhar's exit from the post of vice president, noting that both leaders are from the Jat community.
Janu questioned MPs, MLAs, and other office bearers from the community working within the BJP, asking how they could be sure similar treatment would not be meted out to them.
"Malik's treatment cannot be justified. What the BJP is doing with mass leaders is very sad," he said in the video.
Malik attracted a lot of controversy after alleging that he was offered a bribe to clear files of two major projects in Jammu and Kashmir and questioned the BJP-led central government over issues related to farmers and the Pulwama terror attack, among others.
Dhankhar, a former governor of West Bengal before becoming the vice president, is also a prominent political figure from Rajasthan. Following his abrupt exit from the VP post citing health reasons, opposition leaders claimed he was "forced" to resign.
Party insiders said Janu's remarks were viewed as damaging to the BJP's image and internal discipline. Lakhawat noted that the disciplinary committee considered the matter seriously, especially as the comments came in the run-up to key political activities in the state.
The expulsion underscores the BJP's strict stance on public criticism of its leadership, particularly on issues involving senior figures and former office-bearers.

As PM Modi Inaugurates Namma Metro, Karnataka Govt Highlights Contribution Hinting At Credit War
BENGALURU: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said on Sunday that the state's contribution to Bengaluru's Namma Metro was 80 per cent while that of the Centre was only 20 per cent. Speaking to reporters at his Sadashivanagar residence, he said, "I will appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide at least Rs 1 lakh crore for Bengaluru. The Centre was supposed to bear 50 per cent of the land acquisition cost for the Metro project but it hasn't given. However, we completed the project in the interest of the city. Though Bengaluru is the second highest tax contributor, it gets very little in return." "Ahmedabad is given 20 per cent of the tax devolution while Bengaluru gets only 10 per cent. Bengaluru needs to be treated on par with other large cities in the country like Delhi. We are not doing politics over this, we are only appealing," Shivakumar added. BJP hasn't brought even Rs 10 as funds for Karnataka, he chided. "BJP claims it has done everything. No BJP MP has even got Rs 10 as funds for Bengaluru. They should be ashamed of themselves. The Union Jal Shakti Minister has been responsive at times to our requests. Even MGNREGA funds haven't been released," the Deputy Chief Minister said. "Some BJP MPs think that tweeting and media coverage amounts to achievement. MPs must keep aside politics and PR and work for the welfare of the people," he said, while lashing out at the BJP MPs from the city. "The Centre has completely neglected Karnataka and hasn't released any funds. We have invited the Prime Minister out of respect for the post. We have implemented innovative double-decker project which can be a model for other Metros," he added. "Bengaluru generates one lakh new IT jobs every year. The Metro Yellow line will benefit the IT corridor. Electronic City flyover was also completed at the time of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh," Shivakumar told. Asked about BJP's comments that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government's contribution to Metro phase 2 and 3, the Deputy Chief Minister said, "There is no contribution. All this started during former Chief Minister late S.M. Krishna and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's tenure. Let them (Union government) release the data on their contribution, I will release the numbers too." "I would like to thank Infosys Delta, Biocon and other companies, who contributed to building the Metro Yellow line stations," Shivakumar concluded.

Congress to audit voters' list over 'irregularities' in 2019 Lok Sabha elections, says Venugopal
AICC general secretary K C Venugopal on Sunday (August 10, 2025) said the Congress will launch a comprehensive audit to uncover alleged irregularities in the voters' list from the last Lok Sabha elections. He said there were 48 constituencies where INDIA bloc candidates lost by fewer than 50,000 votes, and the party would carry out extensive checks in all of them. Speaking to reporters in Alappuzha, Mr. Venugopal alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi "did not assume office with a genuine mandate", claiming this became evident after Rahul Gandhi released "evidence of electoral fraud". <Mr. Venugopal said, "A comprehensive audit will be conducted to identify irregularities in the voters' list from the last Lok Sabha elections." Gandhi on Thursday made explosive claims of a "huge criminal fraud" in polls through collusion between the BJP and the EC, as he cited an analysis in a constituency in Karnataka and said it was "a crime against the Constitution". The Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka on Thursday (August 7, 2025) asked Mr. Gandhi to share the names of electors he claimed were either included or excluded wrongfully from the voters' list of the state, along with a signed declaration for the poll authorities to initiate "necessary proceedings". Alleging that the BJP 'seized power' by manipulating the voter list in the 2019 polls, Mr. Venugopal claimed a proper investigation could force "Modi to resign". Instead, he accused the Election Commission of 'threatening' Mr. Gandhi and the Congress for raising objections. However, Mr. Venugopal claimed the ECI is yet to respond to the irregularities flagged. "Don't try to scare us," he told the Commission, adding that Congress would continue its fight. He announced a protest march to the EC office in New Delhi on August 11, to be led by party MPs. The Congress leader also alleged that fake voters were included in the rolls in Kerala, citing Thrissur and Alappuzha constituencies as examples.

Andhra Pradesh farmers' unions accuse governments of illegal land grabs
Farmers' and agricultural workers' unions in Andhra Pradesh have accused both the previous YSRCP regime and the current TDP-led coalition of unlawfully acquiring 1,91,472 acres of fertile, multi-crop farmland over the past decade, bypassing provisions of the 2013 Land Acquisition and Rehabilitation Act. At a statewide public discussion held here on Sunday, the Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham and Andhra Pradesh Agricultural Workers' Union brought together High Court lawyers, displaced families, and movement leaders to highlight what they called 'a decade of illegal land grabs' in 173 villages across 64 mandals in 18 districts. They alleged that police force was misused to seize land, causing severe damage to the State's economy, cutting rural jobs, and threatening future food grain security. While emphasising they were 'not against development,' the unions condemned the transfer of forcibly acquired land to corporates without fair compensation or proper rehabilitation. The unions listed major projects — from airports and highways to steel plants, solar parks, SEZs, ports, and the Amaravati capital region — which they claimed diverted nearly 20% of the State's cultivated land for corporate use without delivering the promised jobs or industrial growth. They further alleged that in some cases 'not even 10 government jobs' were offered to displaced people, while locals in Amaravati's Secretariat were given only low-paying roles such as watchmen and sweepers. In areas where farmers' organisations resisted, land acquisition failed, they said, while in other places compensation has been pending for decades, citing Polavaram oustees as an example. The groups demanded that the Centre and the State strictly follow the 2013 Act, ensuring farmland for industries is acquired only with farmers' consent and after full compensation and rehabilitation. They warned against further forcible acquisitions for corporates and investors, urging lawful and transparent processes. V. Krishnayya, State president, Rythu Sangham; K. Prabhakar Reddy, State secretary, Rythu Sangham; D. Subba Rao, State president, Agricultural Workers' Union; and V. Venkateswarlu, State general secretary, Agricultural Workers' Union, addressed the meeting.
