Phillies star Bryce Harper leaves with injury in 1st inning vs Braves. How bad is injury?
PHILADELPHIA − Phillies star Bryce Harper left the game in the first inning after getting hit on the elbow by a pitch on May 27.
Harper had a count of 0-and-1 on him when Braves pitcher Spencer Strider hit him in the elbow with a 95-mph fastball. Harper immediately went down to the ground clutching his elbow and right forearm in pain.
How severe is Bryce Harper's injury?
The trainers came out to look at him, along with manager Rob Thomson. But after a few minutes, Harper left the field and went into the clubhouse to get examined.

The Phillies later announced that Harper suffered a right elbow contusion, and that X-rays were negative.
No doubt, the Phillies let out a big sigh of relief at that news. As did Harper, who had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow following the 2022 season. Harper missed the first month of the 2023 season to recover, and ultimately switched to first base after spending his career up until the surgery as an outfielder.
How did the Phillies replace Bryce Harper?
Edmundo Sosa ran for Harper and stayed in the game at third base. Alec Bohm moved from third base to first base.
Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper scores a run during the 10th inning during the Phillies' 7-3 victory Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Nationals Park in Washington.
Harper was among the Phillies' best hitters this season. After a slow start, he's batting .267 with eight homers and 33 RBIs along with eight stolen bases.

It is not known if Harper will be able to return on May 29 when the Phillies play the Braves in the second game of a three-game series after the May 28 game was postponed.
Thomson said after the Phillies' 2-0 victory that Harper would be re-evaluated before the next game against Atlanta. Harper was not available for comment after the game.
"He's certainly in a lot of pain," Thomson said. "Whenever one of your top hitters, or best hitter, gets hits like that, there's always some concern. But he's a tough guy ... X-ray, thankfully, was negative. We'll just have to see tomorrow."

Another stellar season for Marx and Tecumseh
HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Throughout the Tri-State there are few players who amount to the success that Katelyn Marx has conjured up over the course of her school career. A 2-time state champion, the all-time single season hits leader in three different seasons and now potentially looking at an award to add to her collection – 2025 Indiana Miss Softball. Tecumseh shuts out West Vigo for fourth straight regional championship Another stellar season for Marx and Tecumseh, as they look for a 4th consecutive state finals appearance. The senior batted 5.44 with 56 hits and 43 runs scored while commanding the base paths – a big reason the Braves won 1A titles in both freshman and sophomore seasons. But before Marx heads off to Southern Indiana next year, her goal is to bring Tecumseh to a 2A title as they prepare for Semi-State. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Phillies Urged to Make Bold Trade for Three-Time Gold Glove Winner Steven Kwan
Phillies Urged to Make Bold Trade for Three-Time Gold Glove Winner Steven Kwan originally appeared on Athlon Sports. As the Major League Baseball trade deadline approaches, one thing is clear: the Philadelphia Phillies will be active. Advertisement At 37-24, Philadelphia sits just one-and-a-half games behind the first-place New York Mets in the National League East and has the look of a team ready to chase another World Series appearance. But to turn that ambition into reality, the front office knows upgrades are needed — especially in the outfield. According to Tim Kelly of Philadelphia might explore a bolder move: targeting Cleveland Guardians All-Star outfielder Steven Kwan. Cleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan (38) steals third base in the first inning against the Detroit Tigers during game four of the ALDS for the 2024 MLB Playoffs at Comerica Horwedel-Imagn Images It's a long shot, but one Kelly suggests is worth a phone call. And honestly, he might be right. Kwan, 27, is the kind of all-around talent who fits perfectly into a contending lineup. He's a high-contact hitter with elite on-base skills and the defensive hardware to match — having already earned three straight Gold Glove Awards in left field. Advertisement So far in 2025, Kwan is slashing .312/.373/.433 with five home runs and 21 RBIs across 59 games — a clear upgrade from what the Phillies have been getting out of the position. Philadelphia's left-field production has been underwhelming this season. Primary starter Max Kepler has six home runs, 21 RBIs, and a mediocre .221/.307/.387 slash line — far below what's needed from a playoff-caliber roster. Of course, prying Kwan away from Cleveland wouldn't be easy. The Guardians would likely require a substantial return to even consider moving him. But for a Phillies team in win-now mode with an aggressive front office led by Dave Dombrowski, it's the kind of bold swing that could push them over the top.
