PETALING JAYA : The Selangor government has decided to give a RM2,000 incentive to each of its athletes if the state wins the 2026 Malaysia Games (Sukma) by gaining the most gold medals.
Menteri besar Amirudin Shari said this would be on top of the incentives that each athlete would get if they win gold, Bernama reported.
Athletes in individual sports who win a gold medal will receive a RM10,000 incentive.
Those in team events with fewer than three athletes will receive RM5,000 each, while those in sports with more than three teammates will be awarded RM3,000 each, if they win the gold medal.
'However, this amount can still go up. We have a year from now (till the next Sukma),' Amirudin was quoted as saying after officiating at the state government's Road To Sukma 2026 Champion programme.
Seri Serdang assemblyman Abbas Azmi was appointed the head of the Selangor contingent.
The last Sukma in 2024 was held in Sarawak, with the host state winning the competition with 62 gold, 45 silver and 52 bronze medals.
Selangor finished third with 40 gold, 48 silver and 35 bronze medals, behind the federal territories, which garnered 75-65-72.

Selangor FC edge closer to FA Cup quarter-finals with 3-1 win

SELANGOR FC took a significant step toward the FA Cup quarter-finals with a 3-1 victory over Malaysian University (MUFT) at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium. Muhammad Faisal Abdul Halim opened the scoring just four minutes into the match with a well-timed finish from Muhmmad Aliff Izwan Yuslan's pass. Alvin Fortes extended Selangor's lead in the 24th minute with a composed finish. Faisal struck again before halftime, putting the Red Giants in firm control. Despite dominating possession in the second half, Selangor struggled to break down MUFT's organised defence. Aiman Danial pulled one back for MUFT in the 82nd minute, denying Selangor a clean sheet. The second leg will be held on Sept 13 at the MBPJ Stadium, where Selangor will aim to secure their quarter-final spot. - Bernama

Faisal's brace gives Selangor healthy lead in FA Cup

PETALING JAYA: Captain Faisal Halim scored twice to inspire Selangor to a 3-1 victory over Malaysian University in their FA Cup first-round, first-leg match on Saturday. Faisal opened the scoring in the fourth minute, ghosting in at the far post to turn in Aliff Izwan's cross from the left. Cape Verde winger Alvin Fortes doubled the advantage in the 24th minute, before Faisal completed his brace just before half-time. Malaysian University substitute Aiman Daniel pulled one back for his side in the 83rd minute. He dispossessed Selangor defender Moses Raj and coolly slotted the ball past goalkeeper Samuel Somerville. Despite the win, Selangor coach Katsuhito Kinoshi said he was unhappy with his team for conceding a goal. "We still need to make improvements. We conceded an unnecessary goal. Anyway, it is part of the learning process, and scoring three goals gives us a healthy lead ahead of the return leg," he said. The return leg will be played at the same venue on Sept 13.
