Union Minister Pralhad Joshi to outline vision for India's renewable energy future

Time of India4 days ago
Mumbai: India's clean energy ambitions are set to take centre stage as Shri Pralhad Venkatesh Joshi, Hon'ble Union Minister of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India, will attend the
IVCA Renewable Energy Summit 2025
as Chief Guest and deliver the Keynote Address. The event, hosted by the Indian Venture and Alternate Capital Association (IVCA), will take place on July 15 in Mumbai.
Bringing together leaders from across the private equity, venture capital, and alternative investment landscape, the summit is a national platform to galvanise climate-aligned private capital in support of India's energy transition goals. Organised in collaboration with Avendus, EAAA Alternatives, and Singularity Capital, the event will convene policymakers, institutional investors, family offices, climate-tech entrepreneurs, and financial innovators.
Speaking ahead of the event, Shri
Pralhad Joshi
said, "India's clean energy transformation is not just an environmental goal--it is a national mission. From renewable generation to battery storage and green manufacturing, private capital will be key to achieving our 500 GW non-fossil fuel capacity target by 2030. I look forward to addressing the IVCA Renewable Energy Summit and reinforcing the government's commitment to building a robust, investment-friendly ecosystem for sustainable growth."
India's clean energy sector is witnessing unprecedented momentum. In 2024, renewables accounted for 83% of total power sector investments, while non-fossil fuel capacity climbed to 44%, underscoring the country's strong trajectory toward the 2030 target. India now ranks among the top three countries globally in renewable energy capacity addition.
As the government ramps up efforts to scale solar, wind, storage, and green hydrogen infrastructure, it has placed a renewed emphasis on public-private partnerships. Policy innovations, including viability gap funding for battery storage, incentives for offshore wind development, and grid expansion across new geographies, are designed to enable institutional capital participation at scale. This creates a clear opportunity for Private Equity, Venture Capital, and AIFs to partner in India's next phase of green growth.
IVCA President Rajat Tandon said, "We are privileged to have Hon'ble Minister Shri Pralhad Joshi join us at the summit. His visionary leadership--whether in scaling renewable energy investments, battery storage, or creating a supportive policy ecosystem--has been instrumental in shaping India's green growth story. His presence reaffirms the government's commitment to enabling public-private partnerships that drive sustainable, long-term impact."

All in one: on the Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana scheme

The Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY), a scheme approved by the Union Cabinet, is to be implemented through the convergence of 36 existing schemes across 11 Departments. According to Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the scheme seeks to address the 'disparities in productivity' between States, and even among districts within a State. The Centre's pet schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) and the PM Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) as well as relevant State schemes, to be identified by the District Dhan Dhaanya Samitis, will be subsumed in the PMDDKY. Local partnerships with the private sector will also be promoted under the proposed scheme, which will begin in October during the rabi crop season. The scheme is to get an annual outlay of ₹24,000 crore for six years. Modelled on NITI Aayog's Aspirational Districts Programme, the Centre will identify 100 districts based on low productivity and cropping intensity and less credit disbursement. The hope is that the scheme will result in higher productivity, value addition in agriculture and allied sectors, local livelihood creation, leading to increased domestic production and self-reliance. This convergence of schemes must be viewed in the background of decreasing public spending on agriculture. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture, in the latest report on Demands for Grants, had observed a continuous decline, from 3.53% in 2021-22 to 3.14% (2022-23), 2.57% (2023-24), 2.54% (2024-25) and 2.51% (2025-26), of the allocations for agriculture as a percentage of total Central Plan outlay. This aggregation of all schemes under one umbrella suggests that the Government wants uniformity in running the welfare, financial and technical schemes in the agriculture sector. It is keen to add States' measures too in the new scheme. It remains to be seen how effective such uniformity will be on the ground as further decrease in public investment in agriculture could be disastrous. Private-public partnerships should be for the larger good of self-reliance, particularly in the production of foodgrains, edible oil and pulses. The progress of area coverage under kharif crops, released last week, points to a decrease in the sowing of oil seeds and popular pulses. Though it promotes national uniformity, it is welcome that the new scheme will function based on 'District Plans' that will be aligned to the national goals of crop diversification, conservation of water and soil health, self-sufficiency in agriculture and allied sectors. For the PMDDKY, the Centre will monitor 117 key indicators of progress on a monthly basis. But to make it more participatory, States, local self governments, primary agriculture cooperative societies, agriculture universities and organisations of farmers and traders must be involved in this process.

Every city must have chief information security officer, says home secretary

Home secretary Govind Mohan (File photo) NEW DELHI: Every city should have a chief information security officer (CISO) to ensure protection of data and systems from cyber threats, Union home secretary Govind Mohan said on Thursday while addressing a meeting on cybersecurity preparedness of Indian cities. He urged states and city administrations to always be on alert about cyber threats and carry out regular audits of their systems and network security. Sources said Mohan also highlighted the need for cities to create their own capacity to deal with technology integration and protect the system, rather than depending on consultants and private players. The meeting was attended by top officials of electronics and IT, home and urban affairs ministries, besides representatives from Intelligence Bureau, UIDAI and state govts. 'There is a huge focus on data security and cyber hygiene, particularly since the 100 smart cities have made huge progress in technology integration. IB officials pointed to how there is need to be ever ready since cyber threats have emerged as a huge challenge with more data on properties, water supply and transportation systems getting digitised,' said an official. Sources said housing and urban affairs secretary K Srinivas announced the ministry's plan to come up with a scheme for the 100 smart cities to take forward the data and technology integration works they have done. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dubai's Next Icon: Experience Binghatti Aquarise Luxury Binghatti Developers FZE Learn More Undo 'The Centre's scheme will ensure continuity of the 100 common command and control centres that manage the IT backbone and data of the cities,' said a source.
