All in one: on the Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana scheme
This aggregation of all schemes under one umbrella suggests that the Government wants uniformity in running the welfare, financial and technical schemes in the agriculture sector. It is keen to add States' measures too in the new scheme. It remains to be seen how effective such uniformity will be on the ground as further decrease in public investment in agriculture could be disastrous. Private-public partnerships should be for the larger good of self-reliance, particularly in the production of foodgrains, edible oil and pulses. The progress of area coverage under kharif crops, released last week, points to a decrease in the sowing of oil seeds and popular pulses. Though it promotes national uniformity, it is welcome that the new scheme will function based on 'District Plans' that will be aligned to the national goals of crop diversification, conservation of water and soil health, self-sufficiency in agriculture and allied sectors. For the PMDDKY, the Centre will monitor 117 key indicators of progress on a monthly basis. But to make it more participatory, States, local self governments, primary agriculture cooperative societies, agriculture universities and organisations of farmers and traders must be involved in this process.

'Bengal Won't Bow Down': Mamata Banerjee Declares War on BJP in Fiery Speech at Martyrs' Day Rally
'Bengal will not tolerate BJP!' thundered West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee as she delivered a powerful speech at the Trinamool Congress's Martyrs' Day rally in Kolkata. In a fiery address to lakhs of supporters, she accused the BJP of attacking Bengali identity, planning NRC-style moves in the state, and failing to protect women in BJP-ruled states. She also slammed the Centre for remaining silent on the shackled deportation of Indian immigrants from the US, sarcastically remarking that 'Trump controls the Modi government.' The TMC chief vowed to take the resistance to Delhi if needed and accused Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma of 'meddling' in Bengal's internal affairs. From women's safety to language pride, foreign interference to 2026 election goals, Mamata's speech fired up the party base for a long and aggressive political campaign.#mamatabanerjee #martyrsdayrally #tmc #bjp #tmcvsbjp #nrcbengal #assamcm #bengaliidentity #2026elections #shaheeddiwas #trumpmodi #womensafety #westbengalpolitics #trinamoolcongress #toi #toibharat #bharat #trending #breakingnews #indianews

Congress chief questions Centre on efforts to trace those behind Pahalgam terror attack
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday urged the Union government to provide more clarity about efforts to trace the terrorists responsible for the April 22 Pahalgam attack, and about the government's handling of the subsequent military operation against terror camps in Pakistan. The leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha stated that he had submitted a notice under Rule 267 during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament, requesting a discussion on the matter. 'Till today, the terrorists have not been caught or killed,' Kharge said. 'All parties extended unconditional support to the government on this matter in the interests of the country's strength and unity. The government should inform us about what happened.' The Congress leader noted that Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had acknowledged that the terror attack was a security failure. Kharge further said that the chief of defence staff, the Deputy Army chief, and a senior defence attaché had made certain revelations concerning Operation Sindoor that ought to be clarified. Kharge was referring to their acknowledgments that India incurred losses during the initial phase of the conflict, although the number of aircraft lost has not been disclosed yet. The leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha also said that United States President Donald Trump claimed 24 times that the May 10 ceasefire between India and Pakistan after a four-day conflict took place due to his intervention. 'This is a matter of insult to the country,' Kharge said. — Mallikarjun Kharge (@kharge) July 21, 2025 Earlier in the day, several opposition leaders invoked Rule 267 of the Rajya Sabha Rules to demand a detailed discussion on the Pahalgam attack and the broader foreign policy implications of Operation Sindoor, India's military operation against terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, ANI reported. In the Lok Sabha, Congress MP KC Venugopal also submitted a notice seeking an adjournment motion to discuss what he described as ' grave security lapses ' and their ramifications on foreign policy. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the media before the Monsoon Session began, said that Operation Sindoor was a symbol of India's growing defence capabilities. 'This Monsoon Session is a celebration of victory,' Modi said. 'The whole world has seen the strength and capability of the Indian armed forces.' The prime minister said: 'The target set by the Indian Army in Operation Sindoor was achieved 100%. Under Operation Sindoor, the houses of the masters of terrorists were razed to the ground within 22 minutes.' Union Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Sunday said that the Centre is ready to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor in Parliament as long as ' certain rules ' and conventions are followed.

Supreme Court Seeks Centre, States Reply On Plea For Consumer's 'Right To Know'
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday sought responses from the Centre and the states on a plea to declare consumers had a "right to know" about products aside from the details of distributors and sellers. A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta sought the responses within four weeks. The petition filed by petitioner Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay said "right to know" was crucial for consumers to make informed choices and to protect themselves from unfair or restrictive trade practices and unscrupulous exploitation. The plea sought directions to the authorities concerned to ensure every distributor, trader and shop owner displayed details of registration, including name, address, phone number and number of employees at the entry gate in bold letters on a display board visible to people. "Right to know helps consumers avoid falling prey to a fraudulent or deceptive distributor, dealer, trader, seller and shop owner, who might misrepresent a product/service or disappear after sale, purchase and money transaction," said the plea, filed through advocate Ashwani Kumar Dubey. If a consumer has an issue with a product or service, the plea said, knowing details of the distributor, dealer, and seller was essential for filing a complaint and seeking redressal through consumer redressal fora. "When a distributor, dealer, trader, seller and shop owner are transparent about their details, it fosters a fair and competitive market where consumers can make informed choices," the plea said. The plea further argues that the the right to know empowers consumers to be informed or protected and to make choices when engaging in sales, purchases and money transactions. The petitioner underlined not only does the consumer have the right to know about quality, quantity, potency, purity, standard, manufacturing date, expiry date and BIS or FSSAI certification of the goods or products, but also the details of the distributor, dealer, trader, seller and shop owner.
