I Swear: Feature film to explore life of Scots Tourette's campaigner
The 53-year-old, from Galashiels, rose to prominence in 1989 in the BBC documentary John's Not Mad, a programme which highlighted his rare condition, which causes uncontrollable, foul-mouthed public outbursts.
The film, titled I Swear, will follow John's journey with Tourette's throughout his troubled teens and early adulthood.
The campaigner was diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome in the 1980s, aged 15, during a period when the condition was little known and entirely misunderstood.
The film's logline reads: 'Diagnosed with Tourette's at age 15, John Davidson faced and overcame many hardships from adolescence and early adulthood as a result of what was a little known and entirely misunderstood condition in 1980's Britain.
'I Swear is a funny, heartfelt, and moving account of John's experiences.'
John was awarded an MBE in 2019 for his efforts to increase understanding of the condition and helping families deal with it across the country.
Robert Aramayo, who starred as a young Ned Stark in Game of Thrones and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, will play the Scot in the biopic.
Actors Shirley Henderson, Maxine Peake and Peter Mullan will also star in the film, alongside individuals who live with Tourette's.
The film is being directed by English filmmaker Kirk Jones, whose previous credits include Nanny McPhee and My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2.

In tonight's episode, brothers Robert and John went head to head, with sister Victoria Sugden desperate to resolve their feud. Robert continued to provoke John and soon there was a big altercation. It comes as a final showdown looms for John on Emmerdale - with three characters involved. In front of the Woolpack, the truth about Robert's involvement in the farm break-in was revealed and no one was happy with the discovery. Aaron told Robert he needed to leave the village but John tried to convince everyone Robert needed some medical help. When they were alone later, John goaded Robert and he lashed out, hitting John with a wrench and leaving him unconscious. He was found by a devastated Aaron and was rushed to hospital. Will Robert end up back inside for the attack - and is his exit looming already? Ryan Hawley, who plays Robert, previously teased there was drama and conflict ahead on Robert's return. He said: "Rejoining the cast of Emmerdale feels fantastic. I've been having so much fun being back here. Oddly, more fun than I thought it was going to be, in a good way. We've been filming some great stuff, there's a lot more to Robert's return than just the value of opening the door. "I've been having so much fun, everyone's been lovely, and there are a lot of familiar faces and loads of really positive energy about the place. There's lots of drama, lots of conflict. There's the dilemma for Aaron and John and also his return affects so many other people in the village." His return to Emmerdale was kept such a secret that he was given codenames and used a secret entrance. He shared at the time: "I was given a code name of 'Marco', In fact I think everyone's sick of hearing the name Marco. I've been using a secret entrance to get into the building and I've had a driver picking me up from my house and driving me to Emmerdale. "Plus most of my scenes have even been scheduled in the village so that I wouldn't run the risk of bumping into people and it getting out. There's so much effort that's gone into it. I didn't tell anyone. I didn't tell my family or friends. Just fairly recently, I said, 'it's Ryan, I play Robert' and the security guard said 'what's your code name." I said, "Marco." And then he let me in!"

EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick brushed off the scandal surrounding his suspension from the sap, as he joined his co-stars for a night out at Oasis' reunion show at Wembley on Wednesday. The soapstar, 31, who has played Jay Brown for 19 years, was suspended by the BBC in June after he used a slur aimed at disabled people on the set of Strictly. In his first Instagram post since the scandal broke, Jamie joined Tony Clay and Natalie Cassidy as well as her partner Marc Humphreys. Sharing some photos to his Story the group got into the Britpop spirit, wearing bucket hats and Oasis merchandise. Jamie could been seen singing-a-long to the band's hit songs in the crowd while Natalie cheered. BBC bosses are reportedly facing questions over the difference in treatment John Torode and Jamie after both used 'offensive language'. The MasterChef star, 59, has been sacked after allegedly 'used the N-word twice while singing along to a Kanye West song'. According to The Sun, bosses at the BBC are being questioned over a disparity in how both situations have been handled - with one star sacked and the other suspended. A source said: 'The difference in treatment between John and Jamie - for very similar incidents - has left questions to be answered. 'The BBC have tied themselves into knots with this - for them both stars appear to have used unacceptable and offensive language but only one has been sacked while another has kept his lucrative salary and got away with just a suspension.' 'Disabled colleagues have been left wondering why incidents of ableist slurs seemingly aren't being taken as seriously as racist language and there are no clear answers coming from bosses,' the source added. A spokesperson for the BBC told MailOnline: 'Whilst we do not comment on any individual matter, each case is always considered on its own facts. 'We are very clear on our expectations that inappropriate behaviour and language will not be tolerated.' A video obtained by The Sun in June, showed soap actor Jamie using the term 'm********s' to describe residents of Blackpool where the show was being filmed at the time. He was reportedly backstage during rehearsals with Wynne Evans who could be heard saying 'Oh my God' when he made the remark. He has since issued an apology, sharing that he did not fully understand the derogatory nature of the term he used but now that he is aware, he is 'deeply embarrassed'. The Sun reported at the time that Jamie told a former partner how it was 'not clear' if he would return to EastEnders and quoted him as saying: 'I accept the karma that has come my way due to some bad choices.' It continued that Jamie told how he was now 'attempting to write the wrongs in my life'. He added he wanted to 'sincerely apologise for the mistakes I made and for hurting you and how I handled the whole situation'.

The One Show presenter Alex Jones was left stunned as she watched a pre-recorded segment of a well-known BBC star. The One Show's Alex Jones was left stunned during Thursday evening's edition of the BBC programme. Viewers witnessed Alex, who recently delighted fans with a touching social media update, alongside Vernon Kay welcoming Zoe Ball and Sam Ryder to the famous green sofa. Before the presenting duo chatted with their studio guests, BBC audiences were treated to a pre-filmed segment featuring a familiar television personality. Opening the show, Alex announced: "First, we are starting tonight by celebrating an iconic BBC series that brought the future of technology to millions of living rooms." Vernon continued: "Household favourite, this month marks 60 years since Tomorrow's World began predicting the future, but did it get any of it right?! There was so much stuff on that show, the show's former presenter Philippa Forrester has been out to investigate." The programme then switched to a pre-recorded piece featuring Philippa examining whether the show's forecasts had materialised, reports Wales Online. Philippa served as one of the hosts on the cherished series during the 1990s, before its conclusion in 2003. Following the segment, both Alex and Vernon appeared astonished by Philippa's youthful looks. Alex remarked: "Oh, thank you, Phillippa! Who, by the way, hasn't aged at all! No." Vernon echoed her sentiment, responding: "Not changed, not changed." Whilst praising the 'brilliant' programme, Alex informed viewers that their guest Sam was a devoted admirer of the technology series. The singer responded: "It felt like a promising gateway to the future! Loved watching it everytime, loved it." Reflecting on the footage of Philippa, Alex remarked: "It's amazing though, to see how many of those things we saw there have come to fruition in one way, shape or form." The Tomorrow's World segment showcased archive material of Philippa seated in the rear of a vehicle, sporting a headset. She was explaining to viewers that future technology would enable meetings to take place from any location across the globe - a prediction that indeed became reality. In the nostalgic footage, she declared: "Within the next decade, I'll be able to have a virtual meeting, anywhere. In the back of a car for example! They'll appear right before my eyes."
