Fatimah: Ministry to expand outreach programme to 13 more zones following successful pilot in Sibu
SIBU (Aug 11): The Ministry of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development will expand its outreach programme to another 13 zones across Sarawak in an effort to ensure is left behind, said minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.
She said this would bridge the gap between government departments and the community, bringing services directly to the people.
'Outreach programmes organised by the Sarawak government are effective in delivering essential services, although there is still room for improvement.
'We will tailor each programme according to the people's needs. We have a very people-centred and caring government. Our focus is to develop Sarawak and make our people prosperous,' she said after closing a pilot two-day outreach programme at the Sibu Islamic Complex yesterday.
She added that increased state revenue has been channelled back to the people through various programmes, including those under her ministry
Fatimah noted that the event here had not only gathered feedback from participating agencies but also from the public to help improve service delivery.
'In fact, we received 300 applications for the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) and 50 applications for the Senior Citizen Health Benefit (SCHB) through the programme.
'This shows how valuable it (outreach programme) is, as people do not have to travel to Welfare Department offices to apply,' she said.
Successful applicants, she added, were able to receive their KGC cards on the spot.
The Sibu programme catered to residents from eight state constituencies in the central zone, namely Nangka, Machan, Ngemah, Pelawan, Bukit Assek, Tamin, Dudong, and Bawang Assan, under the theme 'Kamek Prihatin, Kitak Penting' (We Care, You Matter).
The event involved multiple agencies, including the Welfare Department, National Registration Department, National Population and Family Development Board, Royal Malaysia Police, Malaysia Communication and Multimedia Commission, Fire and Rescue Department, Social Security Organisation, and Sarawak Women and Family Department.
The initiative aims to ensure the state government's plans, policies, and programmes reach grassroots leaders, women's representatives, community heads, and residents, at longhouses, settlements and villages.
During the event, Fatimah presented KGC cards, compassionate assistance benefits, disability cards, and aid for victims of the recent Kampung Hilir fire.
Present were Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, who is Nangka assemblyman; Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang, who is Pelawan assemblyman; Machan assemblyman Allan Siden Gramong; and Lingga assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor.

KPWKM's Mental Health Screening Booth At PMR Kelantan Draws Crowd
KOTA BHARU, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- A brief and interactive stress-level screening service offered at the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) booth at the MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 Kelantan has caught the attention of many visitors. This initiative provides the public an opportunity to assess their mental health status through a simple and quick questionnaire, thereby promoting early awareness of healthy emotional management. Yusra Nayli Mat Yunus, a counsellor with KPWKM's National Welfare Foundation, said nearly 100 visitors had undergone the screening by noon today, representing diverse segments of the community. She said the screening serves as an initial step to gauge individual stress levels, but for accurate results, participants must answer the questions honestly. 'Each screening session is followed by counselling services, which not only benefit the individuals involved but also signal a positive trend in growing public awareness of mental health,' she said. 'I encourage everyone to take advantage of this screening as a first step in safeguarding emotional and mental well-being,' she told Bernama at Stadium Sultan Muhammad IV here, where the programme is being held. Meanwhile, visitor Ahmad Khirul Che Sadom, 32, said the user-friendly and informal approach was highly effective, especially in encouraging the public to begin taking mental health seriously. 'Most people are reluctant to attend formal counselling sessions unless they are already under serious stress. So this kind of early screening is very helpful – it's easily accessible and not intimidating,' he said. He also praised the referral system in place, whereby individuals found to have moderate to severe stress levels are immediately referred to on-site counsellors at the booth.

Malaysia's national care action plan 2026-2030 in final phase
KUALA LUMPUR: The Strategic Framework and Care Action Plan in Malaysia 2026-2030 is nearing completion under the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM). Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri confirmed the plan is in its final preparation stage. She highlighted extensive engagement sessions to align the framework with national needs, including the upcoming National Ageing Action Plan 2025-2045. A key focus will be building an efficient long-term care (LTC) service ecosystem. The ministry also plans to introduce the National Action Plan for Senior Citizens 2026-2030. This plan will cover safety, lifelong learning, and intergenerational engagement. Nancy shared these details during a Dewan Rakyat session today. She was responding to a query from Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (PH-Gombak) on informal care workers and ageing population policies. No official data exists yet on formal or informal care workers in Malaysia. However, data collection will be central to the 2026-2030 Care Action Plan. KPWKM has recorded 6,744 individuals with Malaysian Skills Certificates in Care and Community Services. Another 43,869 hold professional childcare qualifications. These individuals are equipped to provide formal care services. Informal caregiver data is based on Social Welfare Department (JKM) assistance recipients. The Bedridden Patient Assistance scheme supports caregivers of critically ill family members. As of April 2025, RM59.6 million has been distributed to 31,138 recipients. - Bernama
