MIRI (Aug 18): Over 1,585 Kenyalang Gold Cards (KGC) were issued at a mobile service organised by the Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) Piasau branch from Aug 16-17. The two-day event also saw 1,635 Senior Citizen Health Benefit (SCHB) application forms received. SUPP Piasau branch chairman Datuk Sebastian Ting said on Aug 16, a total of 835 KGCs were issued while 775 SCHB application forms were received, while 750 KGCs were issued and 860 SCHB application forms were received on Aug 17. 'This event is part of the Sarawak government's effort to provide practical support to senior citizens, which shows their concern for public health and social welfare. 'The main purpose of introducing the KGC is to enable senior citizens aged 60 and above to enjoy a variety of facilities and special discounts from the government, agencies and businesses. The SCHB scheme provides assistance of RM500 per year for healthcare purposes, helping to ease the medical costs for this group,' he said. 'Programmes like this not only help recipients economically, but also ensures everyone can experience the love and care of the community as the value of community care has become increasingly important.' The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts stressed the state government would continue to strengthen grassroots services to ensure every form of assistance reaches those in need. Ting also urged the community to make full use of these welfare facilities, and hoped more parties and business operators will work together with the government to build a caring society.
