Drugs worth Rs 2.5 crore vanish from police station, then recovered: SHO transferred, 3 cops suspended
Earlier this week, around three kilograms of drugs worth Rs 2.5 crore — recovered during a murder case probe — vanished from Southwest Delhi's Kishan Garh Police Station in a bizarre incident similar to the robbery of Rs 51 lakh in cash and two boxes of gold from the high-security malkhana (storage room) of the Delhi Police Special Cell's old office on Lodhi Road recently.
In a twist, however, as an inquiry was initiated on June 11 in the matter, the drugs were recovered from a plot in the neighbourhood, said officers. Now, the SHO of the police station has been transferred to the District Lines Police station, and three police staffers have been suspended following a round of questioning, officers added.
Officials said on June 9, police initiated a probe into a murder case after the body of a Nepalese man was found in the Kishangarh area. When police reached his house, they recovered around three kilograms of drugs worth Rs 2.5 crore, which was then kept at the police station. Between June 9 and June 10, the drugs could not be found by the Investigating Officer (IO) at the police station, who then reported the matter to the SHO. When no satisfactory response was given, the IO informed DCP South West Amit Goel, among other senior officials, about the issue, said sources. This was followed by an action against the SHO and three police officers.
Last month, a policeman was arrested for allegedly stealing Rs 51 lakh in cash and two boxes of gold from a high-security malkhana. Head Constable Khurshid, the accused, had been deployed with the Special Cell — he was one of the security personnel at the same malkhana where he allegedly committed the theft — till May 24. As per the police, he had been transferred to the Northeast Delhi district after he made a request.

Govt launches 'Cashless Treatment Scheme-2025' for road accident victims during golden hour
Agartala (Tripura) [India] June 18 (ANI): In a landmark move towards strengthening road safety and emergency healthcare, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), with the active support of the National Health Mission, has officially launched the 'Cashless Treatment Scheme-2025.' This ambitious initiative, rolled out under Section 162 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, promises free, cashless treatment up to Rs 1.5 lakh for road accident victims during the critical 'Golden Hour'. The scheme, which was launched on May 5, 2025, promises to cover free treatment costs up to Rs 1.5 lakh for up to 7 days in designated hospitals. Any road accident victim brought to a hospital within 24 hours of the incident qualifies for the benefits. Even if a victim is taken to a non-designated hospital, initial stabilisation expenses will still be covered under the scheme, ensuring no delay in emergency care. Anyone--including family members, Good Samaritans, police, ambulance staff, co-passengers, or even the driver--can bring the injured to a hospital. The focus is on saving lives, not bureaucracy. The government has put in place a robust implementation structure, with a 10-member Steering Committee at the national level chaired by the MoRTH Secretary, State Road Safety Councils chaired by respective State Transport Ministers, and District Road Safety Committees at the district level, led by the District Magistrates, will ensure on-ground execution. The scheme will be managed through the TMS online portal, which will handle treatment coordination, real-time data reporting, claim verification, payment processing, and grievance redressal. Payments to hospitals must be made within 10 days of approval. Claims are verified by State Health Agencies and funded via the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund, with contributions from the Central Government and General Insurance Companies. In addition to the cashless treatment scheme, the government has also reinforced the Hit and Run Motor Accident Compensation Scheme, 2022. Under this scheme, victims or their families will be eligible for compensation of up to 2 lakh in case of death and 50,000 in case of grievous injury. Each district has a Hit-and-Run Committee, chaired by the District Magistrate, to ensure timely claim settlement. To claim compensation, victims or their families will need to report the accident to the police, submit treatment records, ID proof, and bank details, and file an application with the Claim Inquiry Officer. Claims will be processed within a month, and payouts will be made within 15 days of verification. In case of a road accident or hit and run:- Call 112- Do not panic- Help the injured- Note vehicle details, if possible- Call for an ambulance Awareness and timely action can save lives. This scheme reflects the government's unwavering commitment to building safer roads and stronger emergency systems for every citizen.' The public is urged to share this life-saving information and act responsibly in road emergencies. With this scheme, India takes a giant leap toward responsive and inclusive road safety. (ANI)

AIADMK councillor cheats sister of Rs 17cr, held while trying to flee country
CHENNAI: Thoothukudi corporation opposition leader S Raja (35) was arrested at Chennai airport on June 10 while attempting to flee to Malaysia on charges of cheating his sister of `17 crore. Acting on a Look Out Circular, a special team intercepted the AIADMK councillor and produced him before the CCB & CBCID Court, which remanded him in judicial custody. According to the police, the AIADMK leader was arrested following a complaint by A Ponnarasi, who is the daughter of former AIADMK minister SP Shanmuganathan and a resident of Iyyappanthangal in Chennai. She alleged that her younger brother Raja, along with his wife Anusha, convinced her to invest in their firm, Ommeena Pharma Distributors, by promising her a 16% stake in the company. She paid him Rs 11 crore after taking a loan by mortgaging her 2-acre property in Nandambakkam, Sriperumbudur. Without her knowledge, Raja diverted a part of the funds to his other firm, Ashun Exim, for personal use, the police said. Furthermore, Raja took 300 sovereigns of gold from Ponnarasi, promising shares in his proposed stone quarry, Golden Blue Metals, and used the proceeds to buy 40 acres of land in Thoothukudi in his name, the police said. They also forged her signature, fabricated her resignation, removed her as director, and transferred the shares to Raja. When Ponnarasi found out that she was cheated, she lodged a police complaint, based on which Raja was arrested.
