Carson Hocevar (Image Source: Getty) In a puzzling case of accidental comedy, NASCAR Cup Series driver Carson Hocevar revealed he unknowingly let slip information about the return of Rockingham Speedway that had been, until then, under wraps at NASCAR headquarters, which then phoned him to talk about it. It started as a throwaway statement on a Twitch live stream and within 24 hours, blew up into news headlines and put Hocevar front and center. Carson Hocevar admits the leak and NASCAR isn't pleased Hocevar has had a reputation for being delightfully candid both on and off the track, and this time, it might have come back to bite him. He casually mentioned that Rockingham would be back on the NASCAR schedule during a live streaming session. Soon after, he posted on Instagram, 'I leaked Rockingham. ... I just picked something that I thought would be cool... I had no idea,' confirming the comment was unplanned. Truck Series Driver RELEASED Right Before Playoffs | Carson Hocevar Confronted by Rival Crew Chief NASCAR promptly reached out to his team, reportedly asking, 'How do you know Rockingham's coming back?' The phone call proved that the governing body had not intended for the news to be out at that point in time. NASCAR has a dedicated place in history down at a track neutrally termed The Rock in the form of Rockingham Speedway. Cup races were held at the North Carolina 0.94-mile oval for nearly 40 years before it was removed from the schedule after 2004. The track became dormant aside from some sporadic use in the Truck Series in 2012 and 2013. It was quiet for years, but recent renovations and smart planning have led to it being placed back on center stage, with NASCAR planning to return to the facility with Xfinity and Truck Series events in 2025. Behind the scenes: How the Rock made its comeback Rockingham returned with a partnership between local Track Enterprises, the promoter of the venue, and Spire Motorsports- Hocevar's own Cup team. Mid-2024 agreements enable a return over Easter weekend in 2025. NASCAR had put an extensive marketing push behind the revival, including paint schemes used for promotional purposes, such as a special 'Race the Rock' car driven by Michael McDowell in No. 71 at Martinsville. The NFL 2025 preseason started with the Pro Football Hall of Fame game between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Detroit Lions on July 31st (Thursday) at 8 PM ET. As per FOX Sports, most games will be aired on each team's local affiliate network. Fox beats quarterly estimates, boosts buyback by $5 billion
Fox Corp topped Wall Street estimates for quarterly revenue and profit on Tuesday, driven by a surge in advertising, affiliate fee and continued growth at its free ad-supported streaming service, Tubi. The company also announced a $5 billion increase to its share repurchase authorization. The owner of Fox News saw revenue from affiliate fee rising 2.6% in the fiscal fourth quarter, driven by growth across both its cable and television segments. Fox has benefited from improving advertising trends despite tough comparisons from major international sports events like Copa America and the UEFA European Championship in the same period a year before. Advertising revenues grew 7.1% in the quarter, primarily due to continued digital growth led by Tubi, and higher news ratings and pricing. Growth at Tubi significantly bolsters Fox by expanding its reach into the rapidly growing, ad-supported streaming sector, attracting large numbers of younger, cord-cutting viewers who are increasingly hard to reach through traditional television channels. Building on this growing momentum, Fox is set to launch a subscription-based streaming service, Fox One, on August 21 for $19.99 per month, aiming to reach audiences beyond its mainstay cable television business. In June, the company acquired sports-focused streaming platform and television channel Caliente TV to expand its sports broadcasting presence in Mexico. Fox's total revenue rose 6.3% to $3.29 billion in the fourth quarter, beating estimates of $3.12 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG. The company also reported a nearly 7% jump in revenue in its cable network programming unit to $1.53 billion, at a time when customers are shifting to digital streaming. Adjusted profit attributable to Fox's stockholders was $1.27 per share, compared with estimates of 99 cents.
