Mutual support is key to a happy marriage, says Rita Ora

Perth Now14-07-2025
Rita Ora thinks mutual support is the key to her marriage to Taika Waititi.
The 34-year-old pop star has been married to the Hollywood director since 2022, and she's now explained why their relationship works so well.
The chart-topping singer told People: "I think just respect and supporting each other through our own separate careers, ventures, space and just honouring that and being support systems."
Rita and Taika, 49, were good friends before their relationship took a romantic turn, and she thinks that's been key to their success, too.
The Hot Right Now hitmaker - who previously dated the likes of Calvin Harris and Andrew Watt - said: "Being best friends, I think, is really great."
Rita recently revealed that she's like "the fairy godmother" to Taika's children.
The director has two kids with his ex-wife Chelsea Winstanley, and Rita admitted that she has a great relationship with his children.
During an appearance on the Begin Again with Davina McCall podcast, Rita shared: "It is so fun. I just have the best time with them.
"I'm like the fairy godmother [who] gives them all the sugar and all the ice cream, and then sends them back. And their mother, who I love dearly, is like, 'They're bouncing off the walls.'"
Rita also revealed that she relished the experience of taking the kids to see Ed Sheeran, her long-time showbiz pal.
The singer said: "I think that's the fun part of being a stepmom, like you can do those naughty things. I take them out, and I took them to an Ed Sheeran concert. They met Ed Sheeran, like, I was giving it all to these kids!"
Meanwhile, Rita recently confessed that she wants to "celebrate [her] sexuality" through her new music.
The singer released her latest single, Heat, last month, and Rita admitted that it's a taste of things to come.
She told People: "The whole theme of this record is really about being instant [and] really direct with my messaging and stripping everything back behind me, production wise."
Heat was co-written by Troye Sivan, and Rita feels she has "a lot in common" with the music star.
Rita said: "I love his sexuality and the celebration he has with that.
"I was really inspired for me and my womanhood to really kind of celebrate my sexuality, my sexiness and get back into my body, you know? And this really just embodied that."

Brad Pitt's mother dies aged 84

Brad Pitt's mother Jane Pitt has died. The retired school counsellor has passed away at the age of 84, People reports. Brad's niece, Sydney, has already taken to social media to pay a glowing tribute to Jane, explaining that she "cared deeply for everyone and everything". Alongside a series of throwback photographs, Sydney wrote: "My sweet Grammy, Jane Etta, we were not ready for you to go yet but knowing you are finally free to sing, dance, and paint again makes it a tad easier. "If you knew Grammy, you knew she had the biggest heart. She cared deeply for everyone and everything, no questions asked. "She taught me how to paint, how to be strong, how to lead with kindness, to love Jesus through everything, and to find joy in the smallest things. She made up the silliest games just to make us laugh, and she believed in fairness, in putting others first, and doing good simply because it was the right thing to do. "Every year before school, she gave each of us grandkids a 'special day' which was a whole day to do whatever we wanted (and Papa had to go along with it… though I know he secretly loved it too). Mine usually started with banana splits for breakfast, hours of playing Trouble, a craft project obvi, riding every ride together at Silver Dollar City like the bada** she was, dinner at Olive Garden with Papa, mini golf where she'd make a V with her feet to help me aim… (and somehow still beat me) and ending the night watching Paulie until we feel asleep. "She could keep up with all 14 of us grandkids without missing a beat. There was no limit to the love she gave, and everyone who met her felt it. "I don't know how we move forward without her. But I know she's still here in every brushstroke, every kind gesture, every hummingbird. She was love in its purest form. "We were truly blessed to have her to love on growing up and I know she lives on through each of us (sic)" Brad has yet to make a public comment about his mom's passing. However, he recently gave a shout-out to his mom during an appearance on the Today show. He told anchor Savannah Guthrie: "I gotta say hi to my mom because she watches you every morning. To Jane Pitt. Love you, mom."

Jonathan Bailey hails 'extraordinary' Scarlett Johansson

Jonathan Bailey thinks Scarlett Johansson is "extraordinary". The 37-year-old actor starred alongside Scarlett, 40, in Jurassic World Rebirth, and Jonathan loved the experience of working with his showbiz pal. He told Extra: "She's one of my favourite people I've met. She's extraordinary." Jurassic World Rebirth was directed by Gareth Edwards and also starred the likes of Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Ed Skrein. Jonathan felt fortunate to work with such a talented group of people on the movie. He said: "We didn't actually talk about the script at all. But when you're going into something like this, it shows the sort of mercurial magic of, you know, putting people together, surrounding it with incredible special effects people, Gareth with his team and people he's worked with before." Jonathan jumped at the chance to become part of the Jurassic film franchise. The actor - who also stars the Wicked movies - shared: "When you're doing this, there's nothing to complain about, like at all! "You know, of course you wanna feel the heat, you wanna feel like you're about to pass out at points, but also, you know, like, wading through the mangroves in Thailand with a film crew. It's like..." Meanwhile, Scarlett recently revealed that she had to contend with some "extraordinary circumstances" on the set of Jurassic World Rebirth. The actress filmed the movie in places like Malta and Thailand, and Scarlett admitted that she found it to be an "insane" yet rewarding experience. Speaking to People, she shared: "We all laughed a lot, and we were thrown into such extraordinary circumstances physically. "Half our set would wash away, and then ten minutes later it would grow too large, and there's no continuity to anything because the sun was moving in. It was just insane." Scarlett actually recalled one particularly scary experience when they were filming in Thailand. The actress said: "When we first got to Thailand, we had to do a camera test of the full costume and all that stuff, and just putting all the pieces of the costume together and then standing in a mosquito-infested bush, I was like, 'This is really happening.'" In another scene, Scarlett wore a harness to navigate her way down a cliff. And the Hollywood star now admits that it was a painful experience. She said: "We wore harnesses under our actual harness. "You have a movie harness that looks like a harness, then you have an actual harness that's hooked up to a line, because you're not actually abseiling, you're on a stunt rig. "I was happy to say goodbye to the harness!"

Chris Hemsworth banned from surfing 40-foot wave

Chris Hemsworth was banned from surfing a 40-foot wave for his new TV show over fears he would drown. The actor has filmed a follow-up to his 2022 National Geographic series Limitless - titled Limitless: Live Better Now - in which he takes on challenges including learning drums to perform with Ed Sheeran at a concert, training with Special Forces in South Korea to tackle his back pain and climbing 600-foot dam in the Swiss Alps - and Chris has now revealed he initially wanted to include a surfing stunt but it was deemed too risky. He told The Hollywood Reporter: "I was going to attempt to surf a 40-foot wave and train with big wave specialists, but we couldn't get it through the ranks. "The risk assessment, basically, was too far gone, so I ended up climbing a 200-meter dam wall,. "They both have a fair amount of risk attached to them, but [the dam climb] got past the risk assessment team. So there definitely was [concern]: 'No, we need him to go off and shoot Thor next. We can't have him drown while filming a big wave episode'." Hemsworth went on to reveal he only gave him two weeks to learn a song on the drums before performing with Ed Sheeran at a gig in front of 70,000 fans - and he now wishes he'd given himself more time to practice. He explained: "Well, the truth is I didn't [cancel all my plans]. I should have canceled a whole lot more. I was in and out of a press tour at the time. I had other work obligations. I have three kids, and I couldn't cancel them, so they were still there ... "I would've liked to have sent them off somewhere else for a couple of weeks and applied my complete focus to this, but I wasn't able to do that ... "I had about six-to-eight weeks to learn, and I kept putting it off. And about two weeks out, I realized I didn't know the song. I was in the space of no return. It was too late basically." The actor spent two weeks working hard on his drumming and ended up with blisters all over his hands. He admitted the experience of performing with Sheeran at the gig in Bucharest last year was "terrifying" but he was "thankful" for the experience. He added: "70,000 people were singing along in unison and moving to this beat, this track, this song, this artistic creation that Ed assembled, and I was a piece of that puzzle. It felt how universal prayer or meditation or something on a big global scale might feel like ... "It was pretty special. I'm very thankful for it." Limitless: Live Better Now lands on Disney Plus/Hulu on August 15 and airs on National Geographic on August 25.
