The Eagles suffered several losses in the secondary and defensive line, but somehow managed to get better in the short term, while amassing potential All-Pro talent in the draft. The first wave of free agency saw Josh Sweat (Cardinals), Milton Williams (Patriots), Kenneth Gainwell (Steelers), Mekhi Becton (Chargers), and Oren Burks (Bengals) all depart. Vic Fangio's defense saw Darius Slay (Steelers), Isaiah Rodgers (Vikings), Avonte Maddox (Lions), and James Bradberry (UFA) all depart a Super Bowl roster.
On offense, the backup running back and starting right guard departed, leaving an explosive offense with two holes that need to be filled. All wasn't lost, as the Eagles added a running back, three pass-rushing linebackers, two tight ends, a cornerback, and a new long snapper.
With mandatory mini camp complete and training camp fast approaching, we're looking at several key positions that have improved.
RB
Dillon missed the 2024 season with a neck injury. Still, at 26 years old, he brings some extra power to the Philadelphia running back rotation, which currently consists of Saquon Barkley and Will Shipley. He is a 6-foot, 247-pound back who ranked second on the Packers with 2,928 yards from scrimmage from 2021-23 and posted 50+ yards from scrimmage in 30 games.
TE
Dallas Goedert returns, while Grant Calcaterra is a solid No. 2. Philadelphia improved the third and fourth spots with Kylen Granson and Harrison Bryant. Granson, a former fourth-round draft pick of the Indianapolis Colts, has compiled 86 receptions for 958 yards and a touchdown in 62 regular-season games (17 starts) in his four NFL seasons. Bryant last played for the Las Vegas Raiders, appearing in 13 games and making nine catches for 86 yards. Before his time in Las Vegas, the 6-foot-5 tight end spent four years with the Cleveland Browns, where he was a fourth-round draft pick in 2020. During his five-year career, Bryant has accumulated 98 catches for 877 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Philadelphia wants to rush the passer in waves, and they improved while subtracting after trading Bryce Huff. The Eagles have Nolan Smith and Jaylyx Hunt on the edge, but added two elite athletes during free agency. The 26-year-old has 20.5 career sacks and 34 quarterback hits throughout his NFL career. A 2020 second-round pick out of Michigan, Uche spent the first four and a half years in New England and has been used as an edge rusher throughout his career. Uche had a career-high 11.5 sacks in 2022 while in New England, stacking up 49 pressures at a rate of 18.5 percent.
The versatile linebacker logged two sacks while on the Patriots in 2024 and finished the year with 23 tackles (17 solo) in 13 games.
According to Pro Football Focus, Uche's pressure rate has been 16.7 percent since 2022, which ranks sixth among edge defenders in the NFL. In his first year in the league, he broke the Giants' record for sacks by a rookie with eight. In four years in the NFL, Ojulari has compiled 37 QB hits, 22 sacks, and 21 tackles for loss in 46 games. At just 24 years old, the savvy edge rusher has a chance to make an impact for Philadelphia within Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio's scheme. The 6-foot-3, 250-pound player posted six sacks in 11 games in the 2024 season.
Inside linebacker
Philadelphia drafted Jihaad Campbell, who'll play multiple positions. Then it doubled back and added former Georgia linebacker Smael Mondon Jr. to a group that already includes Zack Baun, Nakobe Dean, and Jeremiah Trotter Jr.

"I never really focused on the eating part of it," he explained. "So, they say you're supposed to have two fists of color (when you eat). So, I get some broccoli or some fruit or something every day. So, I just going to keep that going and see what it takes me to." He is also doing more to care of his body, doing "some of the things like they do inside the building," nothing he is usually "one of the first people in the building." "I started going extra cold tub time and, getting in the sun every day and "Usually I'm one of the first people in the building, but uh, really just some of the things like they do inside the building. I done start doing like the extra cold tub time and you know, um, just getting in the sun every day and staying in the training room." The extra attention to his body will hopefully prepare him for the long NFL season and help him avoid injuries, as the Cardinals have had issues with injuries on the defensive line for many seasons. And by using old veteran habits as a youngster, he is preparing himself for a long, successful NFL career. The advice for Skattebo comes from a valuable football mind. Newton, a former first-overall pick, lived up to the hype for most of his career. During his first season, he earned Offensive Rookie of the Year honors as he dominated on the ground and in the air. By year three, the Panthers found a lot of success with Newton, as he totaled 30 touchdowns on the year, rushing for over 500 yards, and throwing for nearly 3,400 yards. The ex-QB left the game in 2022. His resume included three Pro Bowl selections, one First-Team All-Pro nod, an Offensive Player of the Year award, and an NFL MVP award in 2015. Skattebo enters the NFL as a 2025 fourth-round pick. He was taken 105th overall out of Arizona State. This past season, Skattebo appeared in 13 games. He rushed for 1,711 yards, averaging nearly six yards per carry. He also caught 45 passes for over 600 yards. Skattebo finished off his final college season with 34 total touchdowns. Whether he takes up Newton's advice to study the history of the game or not, the Giants are optimistic that Skattebo could be a solid young addition to their offense for 2025 and beyond.
