Recruiting: Auburn among final four schools for OL Jared Smith
The unique scenario is one that Auburn could face as a four-star lineman from Georgia, Jared Smith, has listed Auburn as a finalist ahead of his commitment date. Should he sign with Hugh Freeze and the Tigers, it will mark the second-straight season that a player named Jared Smith has signed with Auburn, joining the four-star EDGE of the same name that inked with Auburn in 2025.

Smith, a senior offensive lineman from Woodland High School in Stockbridge, Georgia, announced this week that Auburn, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Rutgers are the final four schools that he will focus on, according to Hunter Shelton of On3. Auburn offered Smith in February, but he has yet to set an official visit according to 247Sports.
Georgia appears to be the program Auburn needs to beat for Smith's signature. Smith has visited Athens frequently, which has paved the way for relationships to be built with the Bulldogs' coaching staff. However, Auburn has time to wiggle its way to the forefront before his August commitment date.
Auburn has the No. 28 class in the 2026 cycle according to 247Sports with eight commitments. The Tigers have one offensive line commitment from this cycle, three-star Parker Pritchett from Carver High School in Columbus, Georgia.

Auburn basketball 2026 targets Caleb Holt and Anthony Thompson in ESPN top 25 ranking
There is a time for Auburn basketball that it was a dream to have a top 25 prospect want to come to their school. Now it is the expectation. A decade into his tenure as Auburn head coach, it is still astonishing at what Bruce Pearl has turned the basketball program into. Two players the Tigers are interested in adding to the program in 2026 are five-star Caleb Holt and Anthony Thompson. Recently, Paul Biancardi of ESPN ranked the top 25 high school basketball players. His ranking is not just limited to the 2026 recruiting class but all of high school basketball. Holt is the highest-ranking Auburn target on the list. The small forward is ranked No. 6. According to Biancardi, Holt uses speed and quickness on both sides of the court. He is a more skilled defensive player but is improving on offense. Holt is rated as the top player in Florida and the No. 6 player nationally according to 247Sports. Thompson, another small forward, comes in at No. 17 in the ranking. ESPN projects him at No. 13 in their 2026 ESPN 100 ranking. Thompson is ranked at No. 10 by 247Sports and the No. 1 player in Ohio. His height is 6-8 but his wingspan is much longer. With his shooting ability from the three-point line he could draw comparisons to Jabari Smith. Oklahoma Sooners earn commitment from ESPN 4-star 2026 defensive lineman
The Oklahoma Sooners scored a big win on the recruiting trail earlier this week, earning a commitment from 2026 five-star edge rusher Jake Kreul. Just days later, the Sooners added another defensive line prospect in the 2026 recruiting class, James Carrington. Carrington is an ESPN four-star prospect in the cycle and has a significant offer sheet from across the college football landscape. Just a couple of days ago, Carrington decommitted from Florida State, and the expectation was that he would commit to Oklahoma. Steve Wiltfong of Rivals issued a futurecast favoring the Oklahoma Sooners shortly after he decommitted from the Seminoles. Carrington chose the Sooners over 25 Power Four offers, including nine SEC offers from schools like Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee, South Carolina, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma. He's the No. 33 defensive line prospect in the nation and the No. 30 player in the state of California. The Sooners currently have the No. 21 class in the 2026 recruiting cycle after this week's commitments. Defensive tackles coach Todd Bates and defensive ends coach Miguel Chavis have built a strong defensive line recruiting class with commitments from Brian Harris, Matthew Nelson, Daniel Norman, Jake Kreul, and now James Carrington. Washington basketball big man Hannes Steinbach named No. 3 international recruit
247Sports has updated its international basketball recruiting rankings to Washington's benefit. Big man Hannes Steinbach is now the third-highest composite-rated international recruit in the incoming class of 2025, behind guards Dame Sarr (Duke) and Neoklis Avdalas (Virginia Tech). Steinbach is now also the No. 68 recruit in the class, which boosts Washington's composite rank to No. 15 in the country. Steinbach has exploded onto the American basketball radar since debuting for Wurzburg in the Bundesliga in September 2024. He averaged 7.2 points and 5.8 rebounds in 31 regular season appearances, but stepped up when the lights got brighter. His averages jumped to 14.8 points and 10.4 rebounds per game in 10 postseason appearances. This summer, Steinbach also led Germany to a silver medal in the U19 World Championships, averaging 17.2 points and 14 rebounds a game and making the All-Tournament team. Steinbach and the Germans lost to now-fellow Husky JJ Mandaquit and the United States in the gold medal contest. Washington is now in the top 15 of both the composite prep and transfer ranks, according to 247Sports. Their prep class of Steinbach, Mandaquit, Jasir Rencher, Courtland Muldrew, and Mady Traore (from junior college) is No. 15. The transfer class of Desmond Claude and Wesley Yates III (USC), Christian Nitu (Florida State), Bryson Tucker (Indiana), Jacob Ognacevic (Lipscomb), Quimari Peterson (East Tennessee State), and Lathan Somerville (Rutgers) is ranked No. 13 in the country. Steinbach is expected to compete with Ognacevic, the reigning ASUN Player of the Year, for a starting job in the frontcourt this season. It's much more likely that the German will be a part of a potentially electric bench unit that could also include returning sophomore guard Zoom Diallo. Washington opens the basketball season with an exhibition against UNLV on October 19 before beginning the season in earnest with a showdown against Arkansas Pine Bluff on November 3.
