Oklahoma Sooners commits climb in latest Rivals 300 updated rankings

USA Today6 days ago
There are just a few weeks before fall camp gets underway, which puts the 2025 football season right around the corner. As the Oklahoma Sooners prepare for the season, future Sooners in the 2026 recruiting class will be preparing for their senior season in high school. Led by quarterback Bowe Bentley, the Oklahoma Sooners have the No. 26 recruiting class in the cycle.
Ahead of the senior season, Rivals, which recently merged with On3, released it's updated and reconfigured top 300 player rankings for the cycle. Currently, the Sooners have just four players included in the Rivals 300 but are trending positively for a pair of top 300 targets in wide receiver Davian Groce and edge Jake Kruel.
After last week's update, though, where do future Sooners land in the latest Rivals 300?
More: Oklahoma Sooners 2026 recruiting commitment tracker
No. 41 Bowe Bentley, QB - Committed
Bowe Bentley is Oklahoma's top-rated commitment in the 2026 recruiting class. The Sooners earned a big recruiting win when he chose OU over LSU. The Sooners see a dual-threat quarterback in Bentley. He had a huge year for Celina, leading them to an undefeated season and state title in Texas 4A football. Bentley saw a big jump in the Rivals300 release and is considered the No. 4 quarterback in the class. Bentley climbed 15 spots in the latest update.
No. 54 Davian Groce, WR - Target
One of the top remaining targets for the Oklahoma Sooners, wide receiver Davian Groce has been trending toward the Sooners for some time, but there hasn't been a lot of buzz lately. Groce is a dynamic player with the ball in his hands and can help an offense at running back, outside wide receiver, in the slot, and can even make an impact as a return man. Groce dropped by three spots in the Rivals 300.
No. 151 Daniel Norman, EDGE - Committed
Daniel Norman saw one of the biggest jumps in the rankings in the class, moving up to just outside the top 150. Norman rose more than 200 spots. He's got big-time athleticism and great size for the position at 6-foot-4.
No. 175 Jake Kreul, EDGE - Target
Oklahoma target Jake Kreul had a strong performance in a recent Rivals camp, showing off his pass rush ability. What did that earn him? A 135-spot drop in the Rivals 300. 247Sports ranks the IMG Academy prospect as the No. 61 player overall, while ESPN sees Kreul as a five-star talent and the No. 22 player in the country for the 2026 recruiting class.
He's a refined edge rusher with the ability to mix speed and power to win. Kreul has great size and length and will be a difference maker at the collegiate level.
No. 177 Tyler Ruxer, TE - Committed
Tyler Ruxer saw a big jump after committing to the Oklahoma Sooners. He's got big-time speed that's capable of making big plays in the passing game. He's expected to convert to tight end at the collegiate level, which will provide Oklahoma a dynamic threat down the middle of the field. Ruxer rose nearly 200 spots in the latest update.
No. 254 Deacon Schmitt, OL - Committed
The Oklahoma Sooners got a big win when they landed four-star offensive line prospect Deacon Schmitt. He had big-time offers from around the SEC and Big Ten. He'll make the transition from offensive tackle to interior offensive line for the Sooners, adding to the guard depth that Bill Bedenbaugh has recruited over the last few cycles. Schmitt climbed nearly 50 spots in the Rivals 300.

5-star Iowa women's basketball recruit signs NIL representation deal

As Iowa women's basketball five-star wing recruit McKenna Woliczko inches closer to a commitment decision this fall, the coveted prospect announced on Friday that she has signed a contract with a high-profile sports and entertainment agency for NIL representation. The 6-foot-2 native of San Jose, Calif., is ranked No. 6 nationally by ESPN, Rivals, and 247Sports. According to 247Sports, Woliczko is the country's No. 2 power forward and the No. 2 player from California. Meanwhile, Rivals rates Woliczko as the nation's top shooting guard and as the No. 2 player from California. While an ACL injury halted her junior season this past winter, she accrued an average of 20.2 points and 10.3 rebounds per game during her freshman season and 22 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game as a sophomore at Archbishop Mitty High School. Given Woliczko's elite national status and her high NIL potential, the talented wing revealed her decision to sign with the sports and entertainment agency "Disrupt The Game" on Friday. Some of the notable Disrupt The Game clients include WNBA stars and icons Kelsey Mitchell, Jacy Sheldon, Lisa Leslie, Chiney Ogwumike and KiKi Iriafen. The signing is monumental for Disrupt the Game as Woliczko becomes their first high school to college client. DTG will represent her throughout all aspects of NIL negotiations. Regarding her recruitment, Woliczko named Iowa, Ohio State, South Carolina and USC as her final four schools on June 12 and has scheduled her official visit to Iowa City for Labor Day weekend. 5 most important games on the Oklahoma Sooners 2025 schedule

The Oklahoma Sooners will face one of the most challenging schedules in the nation in 2025. It's a result of the 10 years of success they enjoyed prior to joining the SEC. It's a slate that has some tough road trips and difficult stretches of games. But that's what comes with playing in the SEC. OU will face several challenges, but head coach Brent Venables remains confident in his team ahead of the 2025 season. However, not every game is the same, and the teams Oklahoma faces this year have undergone significant turnover from the rosters the Sooners struggled against in 2024. There's an opportunity for OU to have a resurgent season, but they'll need to be on top of their game every single week. For the Sooners to be in playoff contention, these are the five most important games on their 2025 schedule. 1. Michigan Wolverines Typically, it would be tough to argue that a week two nonconference game holds the most importance in a season. But Oklahoma doesn't simply need to win the game for the record's sake; they need to win it to flip the narrative about the program. It's an early-season matchup between two iconic brands in primetime. The college football world will be watching. The Sooners have high expectations for the 2025 season and getting a win over Michigan in week two would provide a ton of confidence for a team looking to re-establish itself as one of the sport's best. 2. Texas Longhorns The Texas Longhorns enter the season as the favorites in the SEC. They're among a handful of teams with the best shot to win the national championship. Their Red River Rivals have blown them out in two of Venables' three seasons at the helm. Although there were extenuating circumstances that contributed to Oklahoma's poor offensive performance, it's still a terrible look for the program that invented winning. Going up against the former five-star quarterback Arch Manning, a talented play-caller in Steve Sarkisian, and one of the best defenses in college football the Sooners will face a significant test when they take on the Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl. The Red River Showdown doesn't just have on-field implications; it can sway recruiting battles. Perception is often reality, and the perception nationally is that Texas is light years ahead of the Oklahoma Sooners. Whether that's the reality or not, the only way to change that perception is to win the game. 3. LSU Tigers The Oklahoma Sooners held a 14-10 lead midway through the second quarter on the road in Death Valley in 2024. Then the Sooners gave up a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to Anthony Anderson that turned the tide. Including the kick return, the Sooners were outscored 27-3 over the final two and a half quarters. The Sooners' coverage was exposed by Garrett Nussmeier and Chris Hilton, and the offense couldn't respond. OU will welcome the Tigers to Gaylord-Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium to close out the regular season. This game could have both short-term and long-term ramifications for the future of the program. The LSU Tigers are expected to be a contender in 2025, and if the Sooners are as good as many think they could be, this game could determine a playoff berth for either team. 4. South Carolina Gamecocks Right after the Oklahoma Sooners play Arch Manning and the Texas Longhorns in Dallas, the Sooners have to go on the road to face the South Carolina Gamecocks and LaNorris Sellers in Williams-Brice Stadium in South Carolina. Two tough tests against two of the SEC's best quarterbacks and teams in back-to-back weeks. There isn't a more difficult two-game stretch on the schedule for the Oklahoma Sooners. Obviously, Oklahoma wants to win both games, but for them to maintain any playoff aspirations for 2025, they have to come out of this two-game stretch at least 1-1. Lose both and OU would have to run the table over the final five games of the season. 5. Alabama Crimson Tide The Oklahoma Sooners pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season when they beat Alabama 24-3 in Norman last season. The win knocked Alabama out of playoff contention and provided a glimpse of what the Sooners could be along the offensive line when everyone is healthy. The defense was stout, shutting down Jalen Milroe in the run game and picking off a couple of passes that led to scores. Alabama is expected to be a contender this year and you know the Crimson Tide faithful will want to make the Sooners pay for last year's upset. Coming out of a bye week, the road trip to Tuscaloosa will kick off a pivotal three-game stretch to close the season against Alabama, Missouri, and LSU. SEC Network analyst thinks this Oklahoma wide receiver is primed for a breakout year

This time last year, everyone involved with Oklahoma Sooners football was raving about former Purdue wide receiver Deion Burks. He was so impressive in the spring of 2024 that he looked like he could be the best wideout in a loaded room in Norman. After a solid start to the season, Burks was injured in Week 4 against Tennessee and played in just one more game the rest of the year. He was added to the list of injured OU WRs and part of the reason the Sooners struggled so much on offense last year. Burks decided to come back for his final season at Oklahoma. If he can stay healthy this season, he has a chance to make good on all of the potential he showed in his first spring at OU. Appearing on "That SEC Podcast", SEC Network college football analyst Cole Cubelic identified three breakout candidates in the SEC for this upcoming season. Burks was among them, with Cubelic raving about what Burks could bring to the new offense in Norman. "Deion Burks at Oklahoma, if I said that name, how many people would know who that is?" Cubelic asked. "Dude can freaking go, and if he's healthy, he's a problem." It's still a bit of an unknown as to what exact role Burks will have in offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle's offense. However, Arbuckle probably likes that opponents don't know what to expect out of Burks in the new system. If Burks can stay healthy, develop chemistry with quarterback John Mateer, and Arbuckle can scheme up touches for the dynamic playmaker, Cubelic could be spot-on about Burks having a big year in 2025.
