'Karma Is Unforgiving': India Cricketer's Cryptic Post After Harshit Rana Added To Test Squad

India are set to face England in a five-match Test series that will get underway from Friday in Leeds.
The Indian men's cricket team is in the final stages of their preparations for the five-match Test series against England that starts from Friday in Leeds. An 18-man squad was named last month by the BCCI for the tour but there has been a last-minute addition in an extra fast bowler for the series opener.
Right-arm pacer Harshit Rana has linked up with the Test squad after being part of India A squad that faced England Lions in a two-match Unofficial Test series. The 23-year-old played in the first match and finished with 1/99 from 27 overs.
A day after the announcement, fast bowler Mukesh Kumar shared a cryptic post on Instagram. 'Karma bides its time. You will always have to watch out. Karma is unforgiving and always gets payback," the Mukesh shared on his Instagram stories.
Mukesh was also part of India A squad for the tour. Like Harshit, he too played in the first unofficial Test in Canterbury but returned better bowling figures than his teammates. In 25 overs, he took 3/92 that included the scalps of centurion Max Holden and England Lions captain James Rew.
The 31-year-old made his Test debut during the West Indies tour of 2023 and has so far taken 7 wickets from three matches. He was part of India Test squad for Australia tour in 2024-25 as a traveling reserve but was released midway through the series.
Meanwhile, Rana's inclusion has come under criticism with former India fast bowler Dodda Ganesh saying he doesn't understand the team management's 'obsession' with the 23-year-old.
'Anshul Kamboj should have been added to the squad. Don't understand this obsession with Harshit Rana," he shared on X (formerly Twitter).
Rana made his Test debut on Australia tour and has so far taken four wickets from two matches.
The England tour is India's first assignment of the new ICC World Test Championship cycle that got underway with the Sri Lanka-Bangladesh series in Galle earlier this week.

Bumrah Vs Root To Become New Anderson-Kohli Rivalry? 'Fascinating Contest'

Last Updated: With both Virat Kohli and James Anderson retired, Joe Root and Jasprit Bumrah have been tipped to recreate their famous rivalry. Virat Kohli and James Anderson shared quite a rivalry as they traded punches through the course of their respective careers. During India's England tour of 2014, Kohli had a nightmare as he mustered 134 runs from five Tests with England legend Anderson dismissing him four times across five Tests. However, when India travelled to England in 2018, a determined Kohli buried his ghosts of England past and racked up 593 runs from 10 innings to finish as the series' top run-getter. Interestingly, not once during that tour did Kohli fell to Anderson. Their fabled rivalry has now been consigned to history with both retiring from Test cricket. Rob Key, the managing director of England men's cricket team, feels that new rivalries will emerge, notably between Jasprit Bumrah and Joe Root during the upcoming Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Bumrah has made Root his bunny in Test cricket having dismissed the England batting star 9 times so far. 'I watch the young Indian players coming through. I believe that with the talent I see in white-ball cricket, even in the IPL, talented players can adapt much easier than people think," Key told The Times of India. 'You don't need to have played 50-100 red-ball games to be able to put your best foot forward in Test cricket. And those rivalries will emerge." Rishabh Pant and Jamie Smith, those two wicketkeepers that play in such a captivating style, have the ability to throw counter punches," he added. The first Test of the five-match series between India and England will be held in Leeds from Friday. The visitors will be without Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin as each has retired from red-ball cricket. First Published: June 18, 2025, 13:59 IST

India vs England projected XI of Headingley Test: Who will occupy the No. 3 spot? Will India go with two spinners?

Shubman Gill will lead India in the five-match Test series against England. The first Test will be played at Headingley in Leeds. (Getty Images) Shubman Gill is set to take centre stage as a revamped Indian team, without the retired Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, aim to break an 18-year drought and clinch a Test series win in England. Gill stepped into the captaincy role after Rohit retired from Tests last month. Shortly afterward, Kohli also confirmed his retirement from red-ball cricket. On top of leading the team, Gill faces the challenge of replacing Kohli at the crucial No. 4 spot in the batting lineup. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! India's vice-captain, Rishabh Pant, confirmed on Wednesday that Gill will bat at number four for the opening Test of the five-match series against England, starting Friday at Headingley. 14:48 IND vs ENG: Rishabh Pant opens up on chemistry with Shubman Gill and England challenge At 25 years old, Gill has a modest Test average of 35 across 32 matches, which drops to 29 in away games and falls below 15 in his three Tests played in England. The number four position in India's lineup has historically been dominated by legends Sachin Tendulkar and Kohli, who together accumulated 21,056 runs in 278 Tests from that slot. Gill's initial hurdle will be balancing the pressures of captaincy with maintaining his batting performance in England, where India have only triumphed in three Test series — in 1971, 1986, and 2007. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Perdagangkan CFD Emas dengan Broker Tepercaya IC Markets Mendaftar Undo He will have the energetic support of Pant, who returned strongly after surviving a serious car accident in 2022, alongside promising opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, one of cricket's emerging talents. Nick Knight EXCLUSIVE: On Shubman Gill and absence of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma in England India will also need to manage without key players beyond batting, as their preparation time in England has been limited. Jasprit Bumrah, arguably the world's best all-format bowler, will be managed for his workload and might only feature in three of the five Tests. Without retired R Ashwin and Mohammed Shami, there are concerns over India's ability to take 20 wickets required for a Test win. England announced their team for the first Test on Wednesday, with Brydon Carse and Chris Woakes slated to open the bowling attack, recovering from injuries that kept them out of Zimbabwe matches. Josh Tongue and Shoaib Bashir have retained their places in the England XI, with Gus Atkinson missing due to a hamstring injury, while captain Ben Stokes completes the attack. LIVE from Leeds: Rishabh Pant's big revelation on Shubman Gill and more In the batting, it will be Ollie Pope, rather than Jacob Bethell, who will bat at No. 3. Pope, England's vice-captain, had made his position vulnerable after a poor run last year. Moreover, Bethell had made himself count in New Zealand, which prompted serious consideration about the No. 3 spot. But Stokes and Brendon McCullum have opted to stick with Pope. Bethell scored three half-centuries in his first three Tests, including a 96 runs knock in Wellington. Pope, meanwhile, occupied the No. 6 spot. But Pope returned to No. 3 against Zimbabwe, as Bethell played in the IPL, and scored 171 to push his case for retention, which was answered.
