ACC reveals UNC's conference opponents for 2025-2026 college basketball season
Thanks to extensive activity in the transfer portal alone, there's plenty of anticipation for the North Carolina Tar Heels' 2025-2026 basketball season.
UNC reinforced its roster with five portal additions, none more impactful than 7-foot Arizona transfer Henri Veesaar. North Carolina also added hometown kid Jarin Stevenson, who played his first two collegiate seasons at Alabama, projected starting point guard Kyan Evans, plus a pair of shooting guards in Jonathan Powell and Jaydon Young.
With all the offseason excitement so far, you're probably wondering when the Tar Heels will release their full schedule. Good news: we have a sneak peek for you.
On Wednesday, May 28, UNC announced their ACC opponents for the 2025-2026 college basketball season. North Carolina will host and travel to two opponents: Syracuse and archrival Duke.
The Tar Heels' home-only opponents will be Pitt, Florida State, Clemson, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Louisville and Notre Dame, while the Tar Heels will only travel to Cal, Stanford, SMU, Miami (FL), Georgia Tech, NC State and Virginia.
At first glance, I'm shocked UNC isn't hosting NC State or Virginia. Those are two of North Carolina's biggest rivals - and always highly-attended at the Dean Dome. It will be the first time in over 100 years that the Tar Heels won't play the Wolfpack twice in the regular season.
The Tar Heels also don't play Boston College once, which comes as a surprise to me.
UNC hosted both Cal and Stanford last season, so traveling to the Golden State makes sense. North Carolina hosted and traveled to Duke, NC State and Pitt, but not hosting the Wolfpack this upcoming season is confusing.

Johnson also backed up deeper into the pocket – and moved laterally – with ease. Johnson might have four seasons of SEC experience under his belt, playing two years at LSU and Texas A&M apiece, but Lopez started every game last season. Lopez threw for 2,559 yards and 18 touchdowns, added 465 rushing yards and seven more touchdowns, while leading South Alabama to its third-consecutive winning record and second-straight bowl victory. Does Bill Belichick start Johnson or Lopez for the Week 1 opener against TCU? Do both Johnson and Lopez play, similar to what Mack Brown did last season, with Criswell and Harrell? Aaron Rodgers puts Steelers offensive line on notice with stern warning
Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers' 20 years of experience is already paying dividends for the development of the young players — particularly through some tough love for the offensive line. On Tuesday's episode of the Not Just Football with Cam Heyward podcast, Rodgers shared a teachable moment that occurred when the offensive line left QB4 on the turf — which didn't sit right with the four-time MVP. "Skylar [Thompson] got knocked down early in camp," Rodgers said. "And I walked out there like, 'What the heck just happened?' And I looked back, and nobody was walking out there. I told the [offensive] line, 'Don't you ever let that happen again.' "I said, 'We got to protect each other, and you guys are the policemen out there. You're the big brothers out there. You protect everybody, from DK [Metcalf] to me, to whoever's in there at quarterback or whoever's in there at running back. I don't care if it's preseason, practice, whatever — you got to protect them.'" There were some concerns about whether the offensive line could protect Rodgers in what's shaping up to be his final season in the NFL — but if the unit can keep him upright and unharmed, there may be a deep playoff run with the Pittsburgh Steelers' name on it. Steelers' Aaron Rodgers left arguably the greatest quarterback in Pittsburgh's history speechless — none other than the great Ben Roethlisberger. On the most recent episode of his podcast Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger, Big Ben shared his initial impressions of watching Rodgers throw at practice — claiming his 2025 win-loss prediction was outdated as a result. "Watching Aaron work, he threw one pass and as he started walking over to me, I was like, 'Man, tell you what, one thing that doesn't stop working and it's that arm,'" Roethlisberger said.
