2009 Indo-Pak meet was lowest point in India's foreign policy: BJP foreign affairs head
Speaking at an event organized by the Late Prakash Rajurkar Memorial Trust in Nagpur, Chauthaiwale said the joint statement issued after the meeting between then PM Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani undermined India's anti-terrorism stance.
Quoting from the statement, he said it allowed dialogue to continue despite Pakistan's alleged involvement in terrorism, effectively bracketing terrorism with talks.
"That meeting was a diplomatic concession to Pakistan at a time when it didn't deserve one," he said.
Chauthaiwale, who hails from Nagpur, outlined how India's foreign policy under PM Narendra Modi had evolved from that time. He emphasised the growing importance of the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor (IMEEC), calling it a potential gamechanger. "This is the only trade route where the US, Russia, France, and Israel collaborate for defence and trade," he said.

Explaining the route, he noted that goods would move from India to the Gulf by sea, from the Gulf to Europe by road, and from Europe to the US by sea, enhancing India's strategic positioning.

hauthaiwale said foreign policy today is no longer about traditional alliances, but about real-time pragmatism. "Even within the EU, countries don't agree on a common stance. The UN has become powerless and confused," he said.
Discussing Operation Sindoor, he lauded the Modi govt's ability to conduct a strategic retaliation without a single bullet being fired. "There was no infantry involved — only air power, missile precision, and drone defence — all developed indigenously," he said. He credited the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision for enabling these advancements. Following the Pahalgam attack, India undertook diplomatic outreach through 27 calls by external affairs minister S Jaishankar, 20 by PM Modi, and over 30 letters to international leaders.
The message was clear: India will strike back at terror bases, but the war is not against the people of Pakistan.
Chauthaiwale also highlighted a new experiment in diplomacy — seven multi-party delegations visited over 35 countries to reinforce unity on terrorism. "Modi's foreign policy is based on pragmatism, realism, and humanism. It is not rigid but always aligned with India's enlightened self-interest," he concluded.
'No budging from principles despite US tariffs'
Commenting on the tariffs levied by US President Donald Trump on Indian goods, Vijay Chauthaiwale said India will not budge from the country's core principles, despite what the US does. However, he added that this did not cause any damage to the India-US relations. "Trade is only a small part of our relationship, not a deciding factor. Also, we are still in talks with the US diplomats, so there is still hope," he said. He also said the day when President Trump announced the tariffs, on the same day, Isro and Nasa jointly launched a $1.5 billion satellite.

Govt prepared for Cong, BJP agitations, says HM Parameshwara
Bengaluru: Home Minister G Parameshwara on Monday said all necessary security precautions have been taken ahead of the protests planned by the ruling Congress and BJP here on August 5. While Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will lead a rally against 'vote theft' during the Lok Sabha polls last year at Freedom Park in the city, the opposition BJP will hold a counter-protest at Vidhana Soudha 'to inform the public about the misleading stand of Congress'. The day will also see state-wide protests by Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) employees. Speaking to the reporters, the Home Minister said, 'The government has the capability to handle everything. Adequate police personnel have been deployed for security. Instructions have been issued for all necessary measures.' Parameshwara also gave more details about the Anti-Narcotic Task Force (ANTF), formed to eradicate drugs in Bengaluru city. 'They function like a task force. They act based on wherever the information comes from. We have already given specific instructions to every Superintendent of Police,' said the minister. He also added that to make it even stronger, personnel from Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) have been transferred to ANTF. 'We have declared that there are no more Naxals in Karnataka. In that context, there was a discussion on disbanding the ANF. However, we decided to retain it and reduce the number of personnel. About 200 to 250 personnel were taken from ANF to the Special Action Force. We had taken them for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Now, since there was a staff shortage in Bengaluru, a few were taken from ANF. If there is a need again, we will redeploy personnel.' He also said the report of the statewide survey of Scheduled Castes (SC), overseen by Justice Nagamohan Das Commission, will be submitted to the Chief Minister on Monday. 'After that, the government will act based on the contents of the report. We undertook this with the intention of ensuring internal reservation, and we will implement it,' said the minister.

‘Every patriotic Indian has sought answers on China'
New Delhi: The Congress on Monday said every patriotic Indian has sought answers on China since the 2020 Galwan incident but the Modi government has chosen to obfuscate and hide the truth with its policy of 'DDLJ -- deny, distract, lie, and justify'. The opposition party also alleged that the Modi government is responsible for the biggest territorial setback India has faced since 1962, and accused it of pursuing 'normalisation' with a hostile China because of its cowardice and misplaced economic priorities. The Congress' attack on the government came on a day the Supreme Court censured Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi over his alleged derogatory remarks about the Indian Army during his Bharat Jodo Yatra. The apex court, however, stayed the proceedings initiated in the matter against Gandhi before a Lucknow court. The top court told Gandhi, 'How do you get to know that 2,000 sq km of Indian territory has been occupied by Chinese? Were you there? Do you have any credible material?' Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said ever since 20 brave soldiers were martyred in Galwan on June 15, 2020, every patriotic Indian has sought answers. 'Yet instead of providing answers, the Modi government for the past five years has chosen to obfuscate and hide the truth with its policy of 'DDLJ -- deny, distract, lie, and justify',' he said. In a post on X, Ramesh went on to ask a series of questions. 'Why did the Prime Minister give a clean chit to China saying 'Na koi hamari seema mein ghus aaya hai, na hi koi ghusa hua hai' on 19 June 2020, only four days after our soldiers heroically sacrificed their lives for the country in Galwan?' Ramesh said. 'Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi has said: 'We want to go back to the status quo of April 2020'. Does the withdrawal agreement of 21 October, 2024, take us back to the status quo?' he said. Are Indian patrols not required to take Chinese concurrence to access their Patrolling Points in Depsang, Demchok, and Chumar, whereas earlier they were able to freely exercise India's territorial rights, Ramesh added. Are Indian patrols not prevented from accessing their Patrolling Points in Galwan, Hot Spring, and Pangong Tso by 'buffer zones' that lie predominantly within the Indian claim line, he further asked. 'Was it not widely reported in 2020 that 1,000 sq km of eastern Ladakh had come under Chinese control, including 900 sq km in Depsang? Did the SP of Leh not submit a paper at the annual Director General of Police Conference in which he stated that India had lost access to 26 out of 65 Patrolling Points in eastern Ladakh?' Ramesh said.

Cabinet To discuss SC QUOTA report on AugUST 7
Bengaluru: The long-awaited final report on internal reservation among Scheduled Castes (SCs) in Karnataka has been submitted to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah by the commission headed by retired High Court judge H.N. Nagamohan Das. The voluminous report comprises 1,766 pages, including survey data, annexures, and six key recommendations. The commission conducted a state-wide survey between May 5 and July 6, 2025, covering 27,24,768 SC households and 1,07,01,982 individuals. The report aims to provide a comprehensive basis for intra-reservation within the SC community, as per constitutional and judicial guidelines. Speaking to reporters at Vidhana Soudha, CM Siddaramaiah confirmed receiving the report and stated that the cabinet will deliberate on its contents in the upcoming meeting on August 7. 'The report has been submitted today, but we have not reviewed its contents yet. It will be discussed in the cabinet meeting,' he said. Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara described the report as historic and noted that its implementation would be deliberated by the cabinet. Minister K.H. Muniyappa expressed confidence that the recommendations would be implemented, while Social Welfare Minister R.B. Thimmapur reiterated the government's commitment to act on the findings. Thimmapur also recalled that the commission was initially set up by former CM S.M. Krishna. He criticized the BJP for rejecting the Sadashiva Commission report and affirmed that the Congress government is determined to ensure justice through internal reservation. The Nagamohan Das Commission was constituted in January 2025 to study sub-categorization among SCs due to lack of accurate data. The interim report, submitted on March 27, 2025, led to cabinet approval for a detailed socio-educational survey. The commission's recommendations are based on educational backwardness, inadequate representation in government jobs, and social indicators. It aligns with Supreme Court directives that allow sub-categorization under Article 14 of the Constitution, provided no existing beneficiary is excluded. The cabinet's decision on the implementation is expected to shape the future of reservation policies for SC subgroups in the state.
