Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee Jayanti Celebrated Grandly in Ayija: A Tribute to the Champion of National Unity
The event witnessed the participation of Jogulamba Gadwal District BJP President Tapala RamAnjaneyulu and former district president S. Ramachandra Reddy, who addressed the gathering and highlighted the life and legacy of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee.
They noted that the birth anniversary of Dr. Mukherjee is observed every year on July 6, as he was born on this day in 1901. He was a prominent Indian political leader, educationist, and legal expert, who played a pivotal role in Indian politics during the post-independence era.
Dr. Mukherjee was the founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951, which later evolved into the present-day Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). As a Union Minister, he served particularly in the education department, contributing significantly to national education policy.
The speakers emphasized Dr. Mukherjee's strong opposition to Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. He vocally resisted the idea of separate laws, flags, and governance within a single country. His famous words, "There cannot be two Constitutions, two Prime Ministers, and two flags in one nation", became a powerful slogan for national integration.
They described him as a symbol of national unity and integrity, who sacrificed his life in the fight for complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir with India.
Several local BJP leaders and activists from Jogulamba Gadwal District participated in the program, including Rajagopal, KK Reddy, Ravi Egbote, Swapna, Nageshwar Reddy, Gopalakrishna, Sanjeeva Reddy, K. Narsinglu, Veeresh Goud, Lakshmanachari, Upender Reddy, Shashi Kumar, Ramakrishna, Rajasekhar, and many others.
The event concluded with floral tributes to Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee and a reaffirmation of the BJP's commitment to his ideals of national unity, sovereignty, and patriotism.

Himachal ministers' power bills total Rs 17.95 lakh in a year; govt saves Rs 59 lakh in subsidy surrender scheme
The Himachal Pradesh government has saved nearly Rs 59 lakh under the electricity surrender subsidy scheme till February 20 this year, according to data placed in the House on the second day of the ongoing Monsoon Session on Tuesday. The state has also incurred an expenditure of Rs 17,95,879 towards electricity bills for residences of cabinet ministers, including Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri and state dignitaries over the past year between January 1, 2024, and February 20, 2025. BJP's Sudhir Sharma, the MLA from Dharamshala, and Congress's Kewal Singh Pathania, the MLA from Shahpur, had sought the information. At Rs 6.78 lakh, the highest bill was for the official residence of Congress MLA from Nagrota, R S Bali, who is also chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) of cabinet rank. Sukhu's residence at Oak Over incurred a bill of Rs 3.76 lakh during the same period. As per the government statement, the state has benefited by about Rs 59 lakh under the Electricity Subsidy Surrender Scheme till February 20, 2025. The scheme has been operational since last year, providing relief to domestic consumers while ensuring efficient power distribution. On January 2 this year, CM Sukhu was the first person in the state to surrender the subsidy of 125 free units of electricity under his name. The information placed in the House by Sukhu further stated that, alongside subsidy implementation, Himachal Pradesh is aggressively expanding its smart metering network under central schemes like the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) and Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). So far, a total of 6,52,955 smart meters have been installed across Shimla city, Dharamshala town, and other areas falling under these schemes. The state aims to complete full smart metering in certain areas by February 2026. For Mandi, Hamirpur, and Kangra towns, Letters of Intent (LOIs) have been issued for the installation of 5,05,078 smart meters specifically targeting system metering and priority consumers. Additionally, the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited has approved the installation of 14,78,945 smart consumer meters, which will cover major towns like Kangra, Mandi, and Hamirpur. The implementation of smart meters is expected to reduce power theft, improve billing accuracy, and enhance real-time monitoring for both domestic and commercial consumers.

India's balancing act: PM Modi lauds ‘friend' Putin, boosts China ties amid Trump tariff tensions
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's praise for Russian President Vladimir Putin and New Delhi's renewed engagement with Beijing indicate another sign India is tilting away from the US in the face of Donald Trump's unprecedented tariff hikes. Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi attend a concert before an informal dinner on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia October 22, 2024. (REUTERS) In a phone call with Vladimir Putin, after his crucial summit with US President Donald Trump in Alaska, PM Narendra Modi described the Russian leader as a 'friend". The two agreed to keep close contact, with Modi reaffirming that 'India has consistently called for a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict and supports all efforts in this regard". Putin also called Brazil's Luiz Inacio da Silva on Monday to share information about the Alaska meeting, according to a statement from the Brazilian president's office. During the call, the Russian leader 'acknowledged Brazil's involvement in the Group Friends for Peace' on Ukraine, which also includes China. Putin had spoken with Modi, Lula and China's Xi Jinping, the founding members of the BRICS group of major emerging-market economies, earlier this month before his meeting with Trump, news agency Bloomberg reported. The timing is particularly interesting. Within hours of the call, external affairs minister S Jaishankar met with Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi, who is on his first visit to India in three years. Both sides stressed a willingness to move beyond recent tensions. 'Having seen a difficult period in our relationship, now seek to move ahead. Differences must not become disputes, nor competition conflict,' S Jaishankar said as he interacted with his Chinese counterpart. Wang was equally forward-looking. With 'unilateral bullying' shaping the global order, he said, China and India should 'regard each other as partners and opportunities, not as opponents or threats". China has privately assured India of fertilizer, rare earth and infrastructure equipment supplies, according to Indian officials. India's tariff tensions with US India's outreach to Russia and China comes as relations with the US fray under Trump's tariff push. The Trump administration has slapped a 50 per cent tariff on Indian exports over its purchases of Russian oil, a move that could cripple sectors dependent on overseas markets, Bloomberg reported. India's strong ties with Russia India's refusal to stop buying oil from Russia reflects decades of partnership, from Cold War defence deals to today's trade. India has largely stayed neutral on Ukraine, refusing to align with Washington's sanctions-heavy approach. Signals of thaw with China If Moscow is a steady partner, Beijing is the wild card. India-China ties hit a low point after a bloody border skirmish in 2020 at Galwan Valley. But recent months have seen signs of fence-mending: Beijing has loosened curbs on urea exports, New Delhi has reinstated tourist visas for Chinese nationals, while a growing number of Indian businesses have been seeking partnerships with Chinese companies for deals including technology transfers, Bloomberg reported. Trump's tariffs on both countries' exports, as well as threats to penalise India for buying Russian oil, are adding urgency to normalise ties, it added. When asked if Beijing expects Putin to call President Xi Jinping as he did Modi and Brazil's Luiz Inacio da Silva, foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said 'the heads of state of China and Russia have maintained smooth communications channels.' Mao added that she had 'no information to offer' on any immediate plan for Xi to speak with Putin. PM Modi to visit China Modi is, meanwhile, poised to visit China and hold meetings with Xi later this month on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit. If confirmed, it would be Modi's first visit to China in seven years. Jaishankar said that 'overall, it is our expectation that our discussions would contribute to building a stable, cooperative and forward-looking relationship between India and China.' ‘Bulldozer has run amok': Siswan ‘hills flattened and over 500 trees' axed, BJP slams Punjab Govt
Hills spread over several acres in Punjab's Siswan village, adjoining New Chandigarh, are being illegally levelled and more than 500 trees have been cut, panchayat members and BJP leaders alleged on Tuesday, adding that despite repeated complaints, the forest, wildlife, panchayat departments and Punjab Police failed to act. Punjab BJP media head Vineet Joshi, who visited the site along with Sarpanch Sanjeev Sharma, panchayat members, BJP leaders Mohit Gautam, panch Amandeep Sharma, and lambardar Sher Khan, accused the Government of turning a blind eye to the environmental destruction. 'All pleas have fallen on deaf ears. The bulldozer has run amok while officials remain mute spectators,' Joshi said. Joshi highlighted that the land in question, falling under Khasra number 453, is notified under section 4 of the Punjab Land Preservation Act (PLPA) 1900. Under this Act, no farming, excavation, mining, tree cutting, or even cattle grazing is permitted. 'If the law clearly prohibits any activity, then how have these hills been flattened and hundreds of trees destroyed?' he asked. Joshi further said that the forest and wildlife protection department had already declared this region as the Siswan Community Reserve Forest. 'This means no activity can be allowed that harms flora, fauna, or the ecology. Yet everything prohibited has been carried out openly,' he added. Joshi demanded immediate registration of FIRs under the PLPA, the Wildlife Protection Act, the Forest Act, and criminal provisions for illegal trespass and encroachment on panchayat land. 'Those who have cut the hills and felled over 500 trees must face strict action. If authorities fail to act, the BJP will raise this issue at higher forums,' he said. Villagers echoed Joshi's concern, alleging that despite repeated representations, the administration has 'remained silent spectator', allowing large-scale environmental damage in Siswan.
