Sky sends important email to TV users with free 'gift' offer – check your inbox now

Business Mayor24-05-2025
It was just over a week ago that some Sky customers were hit with annoying issues when trying to tune into their favourite shows and movies. The UK firm's popular Sky Q boxes suddenly started freezing and showing error messages with many left hugely frustrated by the sudden glitch that affected devices nationwide.
Sky quickly fixed the bug, but some complained they were still having difficulties days after the initial outage. Sky gremlins are incredibly rare, and the company clearly takes what happened incredibly seriously, with numerous messages—and even a text—apologising for the Q box outage.
Now, in a bid to help smooth things over, Sky has issued a new email telling those affected they can grab a free Sky Store Buy & Keep movie.
'We're extremely sorry if you experienced disruption to your Sky Q services recently,' Sky said.
'On the evening of 15 May, a technical issue caused some Sky Q boxes to enter standby mode. Our teams acted quickly to resolve the issue and restore services.
'We're gifting you a Sky Store Buy & Keep movie — it's our way of saying thank you for bearing with us.'
Movies available as part of the gift include blockbusters such as Bullet Train, Jumanji: The Next Level, Les Misérables, Venom, Gladiator, Brides Maids and The Equalizer.
To grab this bonus, Sky Q customers can click on Sky Store from the homepage. Then they will see a 'Your Sky Store gift on us' tile at the top.
It's then simply a question of picking a film. 'Once downloaded, this is yours to keep forever,' Sky added. Read More The extreme robot arm that can chop up a ship
The only thing to be aware of is that users need to make their gift selection before 31 May.
Along with dishing out free movies, Sky is also reminding anyone still see Q box issues to give things a reboot.
If you're still experiencing disruption to your Sky Q services, you need to try the following steps:
• Switch off your Sky Q box at the mains.
• Wait for 30 seconds.
• Switch it back on to restore services.
• Please also reboot your main Sky Q box if you're having problems with a connected Mini box.
Hopefully, this will fix things and get your viewing back to normal.

KISS, Sly Stallone among those Trump announces as Kennedy Center Honorees

Actor Sylvester Stallone, disco singer Gloria Gaynor and rock band KISS will be recognized as Kennedy Center Honors recipients, in the first awards gala held since President Trump's overhaul of Washington's prominent arts destination. Trump announced the honorees at the performing arts center on Wednesday, where he also said he would host the gala. British actor Michael Crawford and country singer George Strait will also be a recipients. The announcement of this year's honors recipients came months after Trump booted several members of the Kennedy Center's bipartisan board and named himself its chairman, claiming the performing arts institution had become too 'woke.' Many entertainers exited from their roles in the wake of Trump's unprecedented move, with others canceling their scheduled performances. Past Kennedy Center Honors recipients — an award for lifetime artistic achievement typically given to a diverse group of theater, dance, music, and TV and film stars — include: Aretha Franklin, Bono, Meryl Streep, Rita Moreno, Tom Hanks, Paul McCartney, Robert De Niro and LL Cool J, among many others. The awards ceremony marked its 47 th year in 2024. Trump bucked tradition by skipping the annual ceremony throughout his first term in office after several of the award winners criticized him in 2017. He made his first public appearance at the Kennedy Center as president shortly after he seized control. The president, following a March tour, said he was 'disappointed' by what he saw and vowed to 'fix it up.' In June, he attended the opening night of 'Les Misérables' alongside first lady Melania Trump.

Watch live: Trump visits Kennedy Center, unveils Honors award nominees

President Trump on Wednesday morning will give remarks as he announces the new nominees for the annual Kennedy Center Honors. On Tuesday, he touted the 'great nominees' who are poised to receive the award while teasing that his last name could soon replace former President Kennedy's on the cultural institution. House Republicans have led an effort to rename the institution the 'Trump Center for the Performing Arts.' An area of the historic arts center could also be rebranded for first lady Melania Trump. The visit also comes after the president voiced his disappointment after touring the Kennedy Center for the first time earlier this year. He subsequently vowed to 'fix' the place, fired several member of the board and naming himself chair. The Trumps later attended a showing of 'Les Misérables' and a fundraiser in support of the center. The event is scheduled to begin at 11:15 a.m. EDT.

Jessie J's hair 'is falling out like crazy'

Jessie J's hair was falling out "like crazy" after she underwent surgery. The 37-year-old pop star underwent a mastectomy in June, after being diagnosed with breast cancer, and in a video filmed two weeks ago, Jessie revealed the physical toll of her surgery. In a video posted on Instagram, and filmed before a TV show appearance, Jessie explains: "My hair has been falling out like crazy since the surgery. "Five weeks today since my surgery and I'm feeling okay." Jessie admitted that she doesn't know what the future holds and that her health troubles had changed her "perspective on everything". The singer - who has son Sky, two, with Chanan Colman - said: "I'm just trying to figure out what the next six months will look like. "I know I can't do everything that I was suppose to be doing but I just want to be able to make it work the best I can for everybody, me, Sky, my fans but in the right order. "You are always gonna leave some people disappointed. My perspective on everything has changed so much." Meanwhile, Jessie recently revealed that she's set to undergo another surgery later this year. In a lengthy post on Instagram, Jessie shared: "I can rest, parent AND release new music. "I didn't leave a major label after 18 years to be scared to re write the rules to fit around my life / health. I just have to make it realistic on what I can deliver in all roles in my life. "Another surgery needed this year. "I can do it. [tick emoji] "Raising a toddler. "I can do it. [tick emoji] "Releasing new music. "I can do it. [tick emoji] "It will look different to what I had planned but that's life, things change and either we panic and get mad that it isn't what is was going to be, or we ADAPT. "I'm just flowing with life. Learning about who I am in motherhood and when my health goes left unexpectedly. (sic)" Jessie is still in the midst of her recovery from surgery. However, she remains ambitious and is looking to the future with optimism. The singer said: "I am 7 weeks post breast cancer surgery. I'm still in the thick of recovery and my body is still finding its way. But I LOVE music and I LOVE my life and I want to LIVE in the moment. (sic)"
