Customers complained online of frozen devices and error messages displayed on their TV screens. Sky quickly fixed the issues after becoming aware of them, but some users faced days of disruption, as their boxes required a full reset. As Q is such a popular set-top box, and so many were left unable to watch TV, the tech issues became a nationwide talking point that angered a lot of users, and many took to social media to air their grievances. One angered user said on X: @skytv A couple of weeks ago the Sky Q box kept turning itself off after 10 mins. Last week none of the apps load up & now this week I have this [an error message on the screen]. "Don't give me the turn it off/on, unplug the box/refresh the app sh*t. Been done more than once. Get this sorted. It's your end." Sky has since released a number of updates to apologise and even sent a regretful text to users hit by the glitch, reported The Mirror. The company has now issued a new email telling those affected they can grab a free Sky Store Buy & Keep movie in another bid to apologise for the disruption. All you have to do is check your email inbox. "We're extremely sorry if you experienced disruption to your Sky Q services recently," Sky said. "On the evening of 15 May, a technical issue caused some Sky Q boxes to enter standby mode. Our teams acted quickly to resolve the issue and restore services. "We're gifting you a Sky Store Buy & Keep movie — it's our way of saying thank you for bearing with us.' Movies available as part of the offer include Bullet Train, Jumanji: The Next Level, Les Misérables, Venom, Gladiator, Brides Maids and The Equalizer. Grabbing this bonus 'gift' is easy. Sky Q customers can just click on Sky Store from the homepage. Then they will see a 'Your Sky Store gift on us' tile at the top. It's then just a question of picking a film. "Once downloaded, this is yours to keep forever," Sky added. The only thing to be aware of is that users need to make their gift selection before 31 May. Along with dishing out free movies, Sky is also reminding anyone still seeing Q box issues to give things a reboot. Sky is making a big apology to its customers nationwide after they were hit with frustrating issues over a week ago. Users across the UK were disrupted while watching their favourite TV shows and movies. As a result, the TV broadcaster is sending out free gifts to its loyal customers by email. So if that's you, then go and check your inbox now. The issue began as the firm's popular Sky Q boxes suddenly started freezing and showing error messages. While Sky was quick to fix the bug, the glitch still left many customers across the country irritated. Some users even reported that they were still experiencing difficulties days after the initial outage, reports the Express. As Sky 'gremlins' are very rare, the company takes incidents such as these incredibly seriously. While the firm has already sent numerous messages - even through text - apologising for the Q box outage, they are now taking an extra measure to smooth things over with their customers. Sky has issued a new email to those affected by the Q box glitch saying that they can now grab a Sky Store Buy & Keep movie for absolutely free. On May 16, the Sky Help Team posted on X: "We're sorry some customers had trouble accessing Sky Q last night. There was a technical issue causing some Sky Q boxes to go into a standby state. "Our technical support teams have resolved this. If you are still having trouble accessing your Sky Q services, please switch off the box at the power socket for 30 seconds and back on again to restore service. Please also reboot your main Sky Q box if you're having trouble accessing a mini box." Since then, Sky Q box users have been receiving emails from the provider informing them that they are being given a free film. The message reads: "We're gifting you a Sky Store Buy & Keep movie - it's our way of saying thank you for bearing with us. "To redeem this gift, go to your TV homepage and vist Sky Store. Click on the 'Your Sky Store gift on us' tile and choose your movie. Once downloaded, this is yours to keep forever." The email also warned: "You'll need to make your gift selection before 31 May."
