Danny Dyer says Bafta win was ‘very emotional moment after 35 years in the game'
The former EastEnders star, 48, won the male performance in a comedy award for his role playing Lee in the Sky Max series Mr Bigstuff. Dyer told the PA news agency: 'I would like to think that I could maybe inspire some people that feel that they don't stand a chance, being from a working class background, that you can, if you're committed and you have belief in yourself and ambition, that you can certainly be and do whatever you want to do, whatever you want to achieve in life. 'I think me maybe winning that Bafta was a moment of going, 'Oh, OK, you know what? Anyone can do it.' 'I'm not knocking what I've done, or my achievements or my hard work I've put in, but I do think that it's quite an elite thing, that Bafta thing. 'I think that to give me my flowers after 35 years in the game was a very emotional moment for me and I hope it's inspired a lot of other young kids coming through to just keep at it. Keep at it and never give up.' Speaking about a lack of working class people in the TV and film industry, Dyer said: 'I don't know why it's changed so much. It's a real shame. We need to do something about it.' Dyer also said 'there's room for another series' of Mr Bigstuff, which follows brothers Lee and Glen, played by Ryan Sampson, who are look for their estranged father in series two, after finding out he is alive. 'The character Lee is quite relevant at the moment, in the sense of, the whole masculinity thing, what's going on at the moment with men, and what's true masculinity and what's toxic masculinity,' said Dyer. He added: 'Lee is quite lovable, and he's got no filter, and he does stand up for what's right… it's a funny little layer to Lee.' A post shared by Deliveroo (@deliveroo) Dyer has had a busy past year or so, having starred in Disney+ series Rivals and as the protagonist in Nick Love's comedy-drama Marching Powder. Reflecting on life in the limelight, he said: 'It's really odd to think of what people's perceptions are of me. I don't know what that is. I think I represent different things to different people. 'I think, living in this world of social media, which is really quite destructive and not very nice, it doesn't breed happiness, and people commenting on stuff… I feel like places like Facebook, you might get a lot of hate, obviously Twatter or Twitter, or whatever the f*** it's called, just an awful place to go. 'Instagram's a bit kinder. Only really dabble with Instagram. So for me, there's reality, which is the real world, and then there's the online world, which I feel is a load of bollocks. 'I can walk the streets and no one will give me no f****** aggravation, I get nothing but love. If I was to just look at, say Twitter (now called X), then I would never leave my house.' Dyer is the new star of a Deliveroo advert in which he proclaims to be a 'tosser', asking viewers to join him in eating salads as well as vegetables and other fresh produce.

EastEnders reveals first look at two major returns as funeral is confirmed
EastEnders has officially confirmed former stars Max Bowen and Ricky Champ will reprise their soap roles in the same storyline later this year. The actors will head back to the show as Ben Mitchell and Stuart Highway, albeit for a brief period. While the full details of their returning storyline haven't been revealed, we now know that they will head back to Walford later this Autumn for the funeral of Jonno, the father of Stuart and Callum Highway (Tony Clay). The two characters will be back alongside Callum and also Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff). With Callum having recently cheated with Johnny, and with those feelings expected to grow, Ben may not be revisiting the happy family he left behind. Ben will be on day release from prison in America, while Stuart will only visit due to having a life away from Albert Square with Rainie (Tanya Franks). You'd think that things would be all smooth sailing given it will only be a temporary return, but an awful lot can happen in a short amount of time where Walford is concerned. Max and Ricky are currently filming, and will appear in a handful of episodes later this year. Ben departed life in Albert Square in 2024. He was arrested for fraud and sent to prison in the USA. It came shortly after the death of Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold), the mother of Ben's daughter Lexi (Isabella Brown). Ben went to prison because he was arrested for stealing someone's credit card, and making a number of purchases while exploring treatment options for Lola – who had a brain tumour – in the States. Ben and Callum vowed to make their relationship work while he was behind bars, but things have gotten somewhat complicated. Callum and Johnny shared a surprise kiss during the Pride event at The Albert, which effectively ended Johnny's romance with recently departed Felix Baker (Matthew James Morrison). The guilt didn't stop Callum going back for more, but their secret affair was soon uncovered by Ben's furious father Phil (Steve McFadden), who violently attacked Johnny. Since then, the pair have cooled things off, with Callum insisting he is committed to waiting for Ben. Despite this, they've not really been able to keep their hands off each other. Stuart got his happy ending with Rainie in 2022. The two characters departed to start life again elsewhere. When Stuart was introduced in 2018, he often expressed his violent and dark side. The character revealed that he had been sexually abused as a child, explaining why he would often hunt down paedophiles and have them arrested. Stuart was also seen terrorising the Carter family. One storyline in particular saw him shoot himself in the leg, but framed Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) so he could go to prison. In a two-hander episode, Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) pretended to get close to Stuart, just so she could get him to admit that Mick never shot him. When Mick was released, he tried to scare Stuart out of Walford, but he went to live with Dot Branning (June Brown). Shortly after this and the death of Dot's friend Doctor Legg, Stuart tried to rebuild his life. This eventually led to him starting a relationship with Rainie but this had many ups and downs as well, as Stuart faced a cancer diagnosis, as well as battled male PND. Richard Graham portrayed Stuart and Callum's father Jonno for a short period in 2019. He was first introduced to us when Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty), Callum's fiancé at the time, contacted him. It was then revealed that Jonno wasn't a good father to Callum and Stuart as they grew up, and that he would often subject Stuart to violence. At the time, he tried to tell his sons that he was a changed man, but his true colours were revealed when he had a fight with Ben after making it clear he was homophobic, and then pinned Callum up against a wall. Jonno was thrown out of Walford but returned two months later, curious as to how Callum's wedding went, unaware that it never happened. Callum came out as gay to his dad, and a disgusted Jonno accused Ben of turning his son 'into one of them'. More Trending Jonno was punched by Phil after this, and he threatened to go to the police. The punters in the Queen Vic, including Whitney, all decided to deny seeing Phil attack Jonno. He then left, disowning Callum as he departed. First MasterChef episodes air after Gregg Wallace and John Torode sacked
First MasterChef episodes air after Gregg Wallace and John Torode sacked The first three episodes of the 21st series were released on iPlayer early on Wednesday morning, ahead of the first episode airing on BBC One at 8pm. (Image: BBC) Gregg Wallace and John Torode's final series of amateur MasterChef has landed on BBC iPlayer after both presenters were dropped from the popular cooking show. The first three episodes of the 21st series were released on iPlayer early on Wednesday morning, ahead of the first episode airing on BBC One at 8pm. Both presenters can be seen in the introduction shots of episode one, with Torode saying: "This is the sort of stuff that dreams are made of", while Wallace can be seen telling a contestant "that is a cracker of a job". In November 2024 it was announced that Wallace would step away from his role on the BBC cooking show while historical allegations of misconduct were investigated, and last month a statement from Banijay UK and the BBC said they had agreed "Mr Wallace's return to MasterChef is untenable". Wallace issued an apology saying he was "deeply sorry for any distress caused" and that he "never set out to harm or humiliate" in the wake of the Lewis Silkin review that saw 45 out of 83 allegations made against him upheld. Torode was the subject of an allegation about using racist language that was upheld as part of the Lewis Silkin review, but the TV star said he had "no recollection of the incident" and was "shocked and saddened" by the allegation. Last month the BBC confirmed the series, which was filmed last year before allegations against Wallace and Torode were upheld, would be broadcast in August, adding that it had "not been an easy decision in the circumstances." The BBC added that "broadcasting this series is the right thing to do for these cooks who have given so much to the process. We want them to be properly recognised and give the audience the choice to watch the series." But the corporation said a decision had not yet been made regarding the celebrity series and the Christmas special. In episode one of the new series, contestants Thea, Penelope, Gemma, Gon, Shaun and Beth battle it out in the first task before two of the contestants are put through to the quarter-finals. The remaining four cook again and Thea tears up during the task and says she "didn't realise how stressful the MasterChef kitchen is". Three of the contestants go through to the quarter-finals after another task sees them cook a two-course menu for three former MasterChef stars. In episode two, a host of new contestants – Charlie, Claire, Finley, Gifty, Jordan and Ruth – are asked to transform an everyday ingredient into a meal within 80 minutes. The contestants are then tasked with completing two more challenges as they are whittled down to three quarter-finalists. The six remaining contestants compete in the first quarter-final in episode three, where they are tasked with one challenge, to cook a dish that will impress restaurant critic William Sitwell. Sitwell's brief, to use either a sweet ingredient in a savoury dish, or a savoury ingredient in a sweet dish, inspires contestant Claire to cook a chocolate steak with marshmallow sweet potato fluff. After the challenge, three of the contestants are sent home with the remaining three sent to the knockout week. A message on the BBC media centre, alongside interviews with the contestants, said: "Please note this information is accurate at the time of filming, certain aspects may have since changed but this represents the contributors as the competition starts." One of this year's contestants, Sarah Shafi, asked to be edited out of the series. Asked whether the new series of MasterChef should be shown, Lisa Nandy told BBC Breakfast: "It's absolutely not for me, as the Culture Secretary and a member of the Government, to tell broadcasters what they can and can't broadcast." Asked what she thought as a viewer, she said: "As a viewer, I won't be watching it." Article continues below She added: "I've watched MasterChef on and off over the years, but I certainly won't be watching this series." In an interview with The Sun last month Wallace apologised to anyone hurt by his behaviour, but insisted he is "not a groper, a sex pest or a flasher".
