FM opens Egyptian-Burkinabe Business Forum
The forum was attended by Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso, Roland Sow, President of the Burkinabe Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and high-level participation from the business communities of both countries.
A delegation of 30 businessmen, CEOs, and representatives of major Egyptian companies operating in various sectors participated in the forum, led by Sherif El Gebali, Chairman of the African Cooperation Committee at the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI).
The forum featured meetings between representatives of Egyptian and Burkinabe companies, providing an opportunity to establish partnerships between businessmen and company representatives, as well as to explore joint projects in various sectors, including agriculture, pharmaceuticals, infrastructure, mining, manufacturing, and new and renewable energy.
In his speech, Abdelatty said the forum is aimed to opening direct channels of communication between the two countries' business communities.
He called on the participating private sector leaders to seize available investment opportunities in both countries and work to build partnerships based on trust, sustainability, and mutual benefit.
The top Egyptian diplomat praised the seriousness and shared political will reflected in the forum to enhance economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two nations.
He stated enhancing cooperation between the private sectors of both countries represents the true path to creating job opportunities, increasing production, and building economies capable of withstanding challenges.
Abdelatty also lauded the promising potential of the Burkinabe market in the fields of agriculture, energy, mining, and infrastructure, and Egypt's extensive expertise in the pharmaceutical, construction, renewable energy, information technology, and technical education sectors.
These potential provide fertile ground for successful partnerships and the exchange of expertise that contributes to supporting development efforts in both countries, he said.
He reviewed Egypt's achievements in infrastructure development and services, noting that Egyptian exports exceeded $44.5 billion annually, of which $6.5 billion were directed to African markets.
Abdelatty ascribed the significant increase in Egyptian exports to African market to the significant progress in local manufacturing, supported by unprecedented infrastructure investments exceeding $500 billion since 2014, including the development of roads, ports, railways, and new cities.
The foreign minister said the forum serves as a platform for embodying the shared will to build an economic future based on continental integration and confidence in Africa's inherent potential.
He expressed hope that the forum's outcomes would help promote the bilateral partnership to broader horizons of cooperation, development, and prosperity. (MENA)

Egypt's PM orders road maintenance review, tougher penalties to curb accidents
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has ordered a comprehensive review of all road maintenance nationwide and called for stiffer penalties for traffic violations in an effort to curb road accidents, particularly on the Regional Ring Road. Madbouly chaired a meeting on Sunday in the city of New Alamein to follow up on measures to address the accidents, his office said in a statement. The prime minister acknowledged that while the state has made significant progress in expanding and improving its road network, the focus must now shift to reducing accidents. 'There is a technical aspect that we, as a government, will deal with, but there is another aspect related to the behaviour and violations committed by some drivers,' Madbouly said. He stressed that all practices by drivers must be governed and that while there are problems on some roads, they will be addressed through quality operation and maintenance. Madbouly directed the Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, to conduct a comprehensive review of all road maintenance, regardless of which authority has jurisdiction over them. At the same time, Madbouly said the government would begin to tighten penalties for driving violations and work on an awareness axis. 'There will be deterrent penalties for driving violations,' he said, adding that the awareness campaign would be approached from a religious perspective through the Ministry of Awqaf, and a general awareness perspective through several other ministries and relevant bodies. During the meeting, El-Wazir explained that the 400-km Regional Ring Road is a vital link between all major road arteries in the country and plays a crucial role in connecting various sea and dry ports. He outlined a two-phase plan to develop and upgrade the entire road. El-Wazir also reviewed measures already taken to address accidents on the ring road, noting that, following a presidential directive, sections of the road undergoing maintenance have been closed to protect citizens' lives. He said a committee of specialists had been formed to implement a plan for traffic flow on alternative routes, which will be equipped with various warning signs. The committee also recommended replacing small plastic barriers in traffic diversions with fixed concrete barriers, closing all openings in central and side barriers to reduce wrong-way driving, increasing warning signs and night lighting in development sections, and reducing the length of diversions. The committee also stressed the need for complete traffic control in diversions, monitored by cameras and radars, and the activation of security inspection areas to enforce speed limits and reduce violations, especially by heavy transport vehicles.

MSMEDA expands partnership with Japan's JICA to boost youth-led industrial projects
Bassel Rahmy, CEO of Egypt's Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA), has met with Yu Ebisawa, the newly appointed Resident Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Egypt, to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation aimed at supporting youth-led industrial and productive enterprises. This marks Ebisawa's first official visit to MSMEDA since assuming his post in 2025. The meeting was attended by Raafat Abbas, Deputy CEO of MSMEDA, along with senior officials from both MSMEDA and JICA. Rahmy reaffirmed the agency's commitment to deepening its collaboration with JICA to transfer Japanese expertise to Egyptian industrial enterprises. He stressed the importance of helping small and medium-sized businesses improve production quality, meet international standards, and increase their ability to serve domestic demand and access global markets. This approach, he noted, aligns with Egypt's broader strategy to reduce imports and preserve foreign currency reserves. The discussions also reviewed the progress of an ongoing technical cooperation project between MSMEDA and JICA, which provides business development services to enhance enterprise competitiveness. Current efforts are concentrated in the food processing sector in Minya and the plastics manufacturing sector in Alexandria. Rahmy noted that future cooperation will focus particularly on expanding support for industrial and feeder industries—sectors that play a critical role in integrated value chains and have significant potential for job creation and economic impact. For his part, Yu Ebisawa expressed his appreciation for the strong and productive partnership with MSMEDA and affirmed JICA's readiness to continue and strengthen cooperation in support of small enterprise development and enhanced productivity across Egypt.

Egypt, South Africa pledge to deepen development cooperation at G20 meeting
Egypt and South Africa have pledged to deepen their cooperation on development and align their perspectives on regional and global issues, Egypt's planning ministry said, following a meeting between the two countries' ministers on the sidelines of the G20 Development Ministerial Meetings. In a statement, the ministry said Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, met with Maropene Lydia Ramokgopa, South Africa's Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, during the meetings hosted and chaired by South Africa. Al-Mashat expressed Egypt's appreciation for the invitation to participate in the G20 meetings, where it has been a guest nation for the past five years. She affirmed Egypt's commitment to coordinating with South Africa during its G20 presidency to advance the restructuring of the global financial system and achieve tangible progress in development financing. The minister also commended South Africa's leadership for highlighting the development challenges facing the African continent. The two ministers emphasised the strategic importance of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in fostering economic growth and regional integration and called for closer cooperation to support its implementation. They also stressed the importance of expanding infrastructure projects across the continent, such as the Cairo–Cape Town Corridor, to drive development and boost competitiveness. Al-Mashat showcased Egypt's national structural reform programme and its flagship 'NWFE' programme for mobilising climate finance, noting that it was included, along with South Africa's national climate platform, in the final communiqué of the recent Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development in Seville. For her part, the South African minister praised Egypt's leadership in advancing development across Africa and amplifying the continent's voice in global forums. She commended Egypt's leadership of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), which the African Union recently extended until February 2026. Al-Mashat also welcomed the final ministerial declaration from the G20 meetings, which emphasised the need to broaden social protection systems, combat illicit financial flows, and prioritise domestic resource mobilisation to close development financing gaps.
