Azalina: Political stability under Madani govt driving people-first policies

KUALA LUMPUR: The Madani government's success in achieving political stability has been the main driver enabling comprehensive policies that directly benefit the people, says Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
She said this stability had allowed the government not only to attain commendable economic growth but also to translate that growth into tangible assistance and support for the people.
"This has been made possible following the implementation of Madani policies and programmes aimed at good and principled governance," she said in a statement uploaded to her Facebook account here today.
As such, she called on all parties to maintain this strong unity and cohesion, focusing on strengthening the nation for the sake of the country's and the people's wellbeing.
The minister was commenting on the various "Appreciation for the People" initiatives announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday, which she said reflected the government's ongoing commitment to developing efforts and initiatives that prioritise the people.
Earlier, Azalina also attended the weekly Cabinet Meeting chaired by the Prime Minister at the Perdana Putra Building in Putrajaya.
The meeting was also attended by both Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, members of the Cabinet, and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
On Wednesday, Anwar announced several initiatives as a gesture of the government's appreciation to the people, including a one-off RM100 cash assistance via MyKad under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) programme and the postponement of toll rate hikes for 10 highways.
Anwar also announced that the price of RON95 fuel would be reduced to RM1.99 per litre following the fuel subsidy rationalisation plan, as well as the declaration of an additional public holiday on Sept 15 in conjunction with this year's Malaysia Day celebration. — BERNAMA

PAS leader urged to apologise for mocking Thai-Cambodia ceasefire initiative

PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari. KUALA LUMPUR: PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has been urged to issue a public apology to the people of Thailand and Cambodia for mocking Malaysia's diplomatic efforts in brokering a ceasefire between the two countries. Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, who is the Finance Minister's political secretary, said that while the world acknowledges Malaysia's role, particularly Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's leadership, in promoting regional peace, the Pasir Mas MP's actions were unpatriotic and an embarrassment to the country. Muhammad Kamil, who is also Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) chief, remarked that narrow opposition politics must be rejected and that such irresponsible voices should not be allowed to damage the nation's reputation. "Malaysia will not defend reckless and disrespectful actions by those who show no regard for other nations, especially our neighbours. Likewise, we would not tolerate such insults if they were directed at our own country. "Islam calls for reconciliation, yet political hatred is being used to dismiss peace efforts. We will continue to uphold Malaysia's name through diplomacy, not empty rhetoric. We believe in humanitarian solutions, not hostility," he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (July 29). Muhammad Kamil also emphasised that the peace effort between Thailand and Cambodia transcends party politics and individual interests, reflecting the country's honour. "This is about Malaysia's standing as a respected regional leader. From the President of the United States and President of China to the entire Asean community, the world welcomed this initiative, but our Opposition chose to respond with cynicism. "They forget that during their time in power, no diplomatic breakthrough of this scale was achieved. Now that the Madani government is actively engaging in international diplomacy and conflict resolution, the Opposition resorts to sowing hatred and resentment," he said. Earlier, Fadhli posted an image on social media depicting a goat and a sheep fighting over a banana, with a monkey acting as the judge, along with a caption that read: "The goat and sheep shouldn't need a monkey to mediate a dispute over a banana." On Monday (July 28), Anwar announced that Thailand and Cambodia had agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire to ease tensions along their disputed border, following a special meeting chaired by the Prime Minister in Putrajaya. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand's Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai attended the meeting. – Bernama

Malaysia praised for brokering Thai-Cambodia ceasefire by MCBA

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia-Cambodia Business Association (MCBA) has commended Malaysia's leadership role in brokering an immediate ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia, following a special meeting held in Putrajaya yesterday. MCBA founding president Datuk Seri Ricky Yaw praised Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his proactive diplomacy, noting that MCBA, as a platform dedicated to regional economic cooperation, welcomes Malaysia's leadership in his capacity as ASEAN Chair. He said Anwar's efforts had brought the leaders of both countries to Kuala Lumpur for urgent dialogue in response to escalating tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border. 'This ceasefire is a critical step toward restoring peace and regional stability. We extend our highest respect to Malaysia for the leadership demonstrated in facilitating this breakthrough. 'At the same time, we also pay high tribute to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand's Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai for their political foresight and courage in making responsible decisions that balance national interest with regional peace,' he said in a statement. He added that MCBA, as a regional business association promoting peace, trade, and investment, firmly believes that economic growth must be grounded in mutual respect, regional cooperation, and long-term stability. 'We urge all ASEAN member states to continue supporting diplomatic efforts and trust-building mechanisms to prevent further escalation and strengthen mutual understanding. Peace is always the foundation of prosperity,' he added. Yaw added that MCBA remains committed to working closely with stakeholders in Cambodia, Thailand, and across the ASEAN region to promote peaceful coexistence and economic resilience. Yesterday, Hun Manet and Wechayachai agreed to an 'immediate and unconditional ceasefire' over the ongoing border dispute, following a special meeting brokered by Anwar at the official residence of the Malaysian Prime Minister, the Seri Perdana Complex in Putrajaya. The two Southeast Asian neighbours have a long history of diplomatic tensions over an 817-kilometre undemarcated stretch of their shared border. Tensions have been simmering since May 28, following a skirmish between troops near the disputed Preah Vihear area, which claimed the life of a Cambodian soldier. - Bernama
