Gerard Martin speaks out on links with West Ham, Bournemouth and Wolves

Metro20 hours ago

Barcelona full-back Gerard Martin has been linked with a string of Premier League clubs, but has talked down a possible move.
The 23-year-old only made his Barcelona debut in August last year and already has a La Liga and Copa del Rey win on his CV.
The Spain Under-21 international made 42 appearances across all competitions, with 28 coming in La Liga and eight in the Champions League.
How much Martin was involved over the last season was something of a surprise, but it has not been enough for Barcelona to be set on keeping him.
Football Espana report that the left-back could be available for as little as €12m (£10.2m) and that has alerted a number of potential suitors.
West Ham, Bournemouth and Wolves have all been linked with a move for the Spaniard, with the price tag no issue for Premier League clubs.
Martin is not talking up a move, though, saying he is only focussed on Barcelona after an encouraging first season in the first team.
'I don't know, these are things that come out,' Martin told Jijantes of the transfer speculation.
'I am happy with my season, and focused on Barcelona. I'm not thinking about anything else, I'm relaxed.'
Martin was in action for Spain Under-21s on Wednesday against Slovakia but has returned from international duty after suffering a fractured hand.
The three Premier League sides linked with Martin are all in need of a new left-back this summer. More Trending
Wolves have sold Rayan Ait-Nouri to Manchester City and will need to replace the Algeria international after selling him for £31.8m.
Bournemouth are yet to complete the sale of Milos Kerkez, but he is expected to make a move to Liverpool this summer in a £45m deal.
After 11 years at West Ham, Aaron Cresswell has left the club this summer, and while he was no longer a regular starter, the Hammers are looking for a replacement.

Sam Burns succeeds where others fail in the second round of US Open

The 2023 Ryder Cup player carded a brilliant five-under-par 65 to move to three-under and become the clubhouse leader after the morning wave of second rounds. He was one shot behind overnight leader JJ Spaun, who began his round at lunchtime on Friday. Geaux tigah! Check out every televised shot from Sam Burns' sizzling 65 on Friday at Oakmont 👇👇 — U.S. Open (@usopengolf) June 13, 2025 The brutal Oakmont course, with punishing rough and treacherous greens, has chewed up and spat out some of the world's best players so far, but Burns was able to thrive. Starting at two over after Thursday's opening round, he produced a blemish-free 31 with four birdies to make the turn at two under. He dropped a shot at the first hole, his 10th of the day, but recovered with birdies at the second and fourth before draining a 22-foot putt to save par. 'I didn't really think of much of a score. The golf course is really too difficult to try to figure out what's a good score and what's not,' Burns said. Sam Burns propelled himself to the top end of the leaerboard (Gene J. Puskar/AP) 'You're really just shot by shot and trying to play each hole the best you can. 'There's obviously a lot of golf left on a very tough golf course, so I think really this afternoon just getting rest and getting ready. 'I'm looking forward to the weekend. It's a 72-hole golf tournament, and if you can get a round under par out here, no matter if it's one under, you'll take it.' World number one Scott Scheffler is back at four-over after a 71, which consisted of four birdies and five bogeys and may be one of the better rounds of the day. Brooks Koepka was sitting at two under overnight but dropped down to two over after a difficult second nine holes saw him hit five bogeys. Jon Rahm was another player who endured a torrid time, especially on the greens, as he tumbled down the leaderboard after a five-over-par 75. 'Honestly, I'm too annoyed and too mad right now to think about any perspective,' the Spaniard said. 'Very few rounds of golf I played in my life where I think I hit good putts and they didn't sniff the hole, so it's frustrating.' Indeed, the terrifying course in Pennsylvania was playing even tougher on Friday, with just two of the players who have completed two rounds sitting under par. Norway's Victor Hovland joins Burns in the red after he carded a two-under-par 68 to sit one under overall. Hovland was at three under with four holes to play but two dropped shots, at the sixth and eighth holes, proved costly.

John Terry 'proud' of full kit w***** label after Chelsea Champions League win

EXCLUSIVE: John Terry wore his full kit to watch Chelsea win the Champions League in 2012 - and holds no regrets despite his reputation following that success John Terry insists he is 'very proud' of his 'full kit' celebration - and revealed he was under orders from UEFA. Terry has always struggled to live down the whole episode after the 2012 Champions League final when he was suspended but still ran onto the pitch to lift the trophy while wearing his shirt, shorts, socks, boots and even his shin pads. Former England captain Terry suffered Champions League heartbreak when he missed in the penalty shoot-out in 2008 but was determined not to miss the party four years later despite him and Branislav Ivanovic being banner for the final. Terry laughed: 'What are you going on about?! It doesn't bother me at all. I will gladly take the stick if we win the trophies. 'Listen, first of all, it came from UEFA, they wanted all the players to dress the same, wear the shirt and I probably overeager it a bit because I had the boots, the shorts and the shinpads. 'They didn't say to everyone: 'put the boots and shin pads on!' So, yeah, I've gone a bit far but I'm very proud of it, I really am. 'It's part of it. The memes and stuff came out, but being the Englishman that I am, the Chelsea captain and so proud to lead the club, I was ready to take the brunt of it. 'But I wasn't the only one. Ivanovic was suspended and he was swinging on the crossbar at full time. No-one mentions that he had the full kit on, the scarf wrapped round and all of that.' Terry regards the 2005 title as the best trophy he played in but still looks back on the 2012 European success as a remarkable achievement despite missing the final after being sent off in the semi final. He added: 'In terms of one I didn't play in but still goes down as the best for me is the Champions League in 2012. And I say that because I'm proper Chelsea, everyone knows that. 'Seeing the heartache of 09/10, 08 against Man United and even 04/05 in the Champions League, we deserved to win that trophy. We'd been so close. 'We'd probably been better equipped previously to win it than the actual year we did it. It wasn't our strongest team, we were an ageing team in 2012. 'We had a few players suspended, myself included, but we went and won the trophy. We needed a bit of luck along the way which we had. I think it's an amazing trophy and one I'm so proud of that we won.' John Terry was speaking about Chelsea and the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
