Sedriques Dumas out of UFC 317, as surging Chilean newcomer Christopher Ewert steps in
Sedriques Dumas won't compete at UFC 317.
While the exact circumstances of his absence from Saturday's event remain unclear, his previously scheduled opponent Jackson McVey will now battle surging Chilean newcomer Christopher Ewert at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Two people with knowledge of the change informed MMA Junkie of the new booking Tuesday but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.
Ewert (7-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) was long on the UFC radar. Initially booked for Dana White's Contender Series on Aug. 2 vs. Yuri Panferov, he'll instead debut on four days' notice against a fellow newcomer. Born in Chile, Ewert has five knockouts in seven pro bouts. He trains under Javier Torres at Ultimate Kombat Training Center in Mesa, Ariz.
McVey (6-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has never seen the second round with six first-round finishes in as many pro appearances. He trains under Mike Rogers at St. Charles MMA in St. Charles, Mo., and competed for LFA and Shamrock FC during his pro build.
Dumas (10-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) looked to bounce back from an April loss to Michal Oleksiejczuk. Less than three weeks after the fight, Dumas was arrested for home invasion and battery, among other charges. Escambia County (Fla.) court records show Dumas' attorney filed a motion Monday to modify Dumas' bond agreement. It's unclear what those requested changes are, but the initial terms limited him to a 100-mile radius of his residence while he partook in GPS monitoring.

Aaron Rodgers Trashes Fans And Media As '(Expletive) Entitled, Ridiculous and Embarrassing'
Aaron Rodgers Trashes Fans And Media As '(Expletive) Entitled, Ridiculous and Embarrassing' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Twenty years in the NFL and a Cal education and an intellect he's fond of flaunting and quarterback Aaron Rodgers still doesn't get it. Advertisement Green Bay Packers fans enjoyed his four MVP's but they know the bit. New York Jets fans just saw him "lead'' them to a 5-12 season, so they learned. Now that Rodgers, at 41 off to Pittsburgh as the starting QB of the Steelers in 2025 before retirement, one more fan base is about to figure it out. Rodgers, who is said to be worth $200 million as a result of being in the NFL spotlight, just made a recent appearance of the Pat McAfee show on ESPN (which last time we checked pays him $1 million annually to appear) and he used the platform to blast those who seek information about his personal life and professional life. Advertisement Take it away, Aaron ... "The entitlement to information about my private life is so (expletive) ridiculous and embarrassing,"Rodgers said. "Like, hey, do what you've got to do, but try and leave me out of a conversation, sports world, for a month. Try and just leave me out, my personal life, my professional life, try not to talk about me ... for the next six weeks, five weeks, whatever it is. "Just see if you can do that." Our reply? No. We cannot do that. We can't do it because it is our job to chronicle All Thing Aaron, from the highs in Green Bay to when he tore his Achilles in the first quarter of his first game with the Jets to last season when he recorded an empty total of 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns to now, when he is a pivot point of the Steelers' playoff hopes. Advertisement Rodgers, like many celebrities, wants it both ways. The fame and the fortune, but only on their terms. "Privacy'' while dating actresses and supermodels and starring in a TV show (see "Enigma.'') A "don't look at me'' attitude while - in Aaron Rodgers' case - pitching loony life philosophies and conjuring up offensive conspiracy theories and considering a run for The White House. ou want to play QB in the NFL but you want to do it in hiding? Really? There are boundaries of respect, and if fans and reporters are hiding in the bushes of celebrities' backyards? Yeah, that's "entitlement, ridiculous and embarrassing.'' Advertisement And illegal. But short of that? The hypocritical truth, as Rodgers insists that when his NFL career is over, "You won't see me.''? ""When this is all done, it's Keyser Söze. You won't see me," referring to the secretive villain in "The Usual Suspects." "I won't be in the public. I don't want to live a public life. ... I'm not going to be in the public eye. When this is done, I'm done, and you won't see me. And I'm looking forward to that." In a very real sense, Aaron? We're kind of looking forward to that, too. Insider Tabs Surprising Veteran As Aaron Rodgers Replacement
Insider Tabs Surprising Veteran As Aaron Rodgers Replacement originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Aaron Rodgers' future was already in doubt before he signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers a few weeks ago. Many assumed he would join the Steelers for the 2025 season though the delay in making it official had fans wondering about his commitment to playing another season outright. Advertisement Rodgers' career is winding down and he make that perfectly clear this week, revealing on The Pat McAfee Show that his first year with the Pittsburgh Steelers will be the final of his career. That means the Steelers are on the clock to at a minimum start thinking about their future at the position. Pittsburgh faced a similar problem a year ago, deploying Russell Wilson and Justin Fields as temporary placeholders. It's a similar circumstance now for the team. Some feel that a projected stronger quarterback draft class could provide them the permanent answer they have sought after for years. However, one insider thinks that they could look into acquiring another veteran. ESPN's Brooke Pryor tabbed Arizona Cardinals' quarterback Kyler Murray as a player that could be on the Steelers radar. Advertisement "Trading for a starting quarterback is rarer these days, and expensive, but not impossible... The Steelers could first look at former first-round picks who haven't played up to their expected potential. "Arizona's Kyler Murray will have two years and a club option on his current contract after the 2025 season. His cap hits are significant -- $53.2 million and $43.5 million -- but they could be massaged and restructured." Murray enters his seventh year in the NFL and at age 27, there is still an opportunity for him to progress under center. When he's on the field, Murray is one of the more dynamic players in the league. But there is also an argument for the Steelers running into the same issue going this route. Changing out starting quarterbacks is an unconventional strategy because most teams press the reset button at the position through the draft. Advertisement Having changed out veterans multiple times already, a section of the fanbase would bemoan the use of that strategy for a third straight offseason. Murray does, however, have more upside than any other play caller to make it work. For now, the Steelers back Rodgers and will try to capitalize on his final season. But they will need to start thinking about what's next sooner rather than later. Texas State Expecting Offer From PAC-12 This Week as Conference Expansion Talks Intensify
Texas State Expecting Offer From PAC-12 This Week as Conference Expansion Talks Intensify originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After months of speculation, it looks like Texas State will soon become the ninth member of the Pac-12 conference. Texas State informed its current conference, the Sun Belt, it is expecting an offer from the Pac-12 'in the near future', according to reporting from Pete Thamel of ESPN. Advertisement Thamel also reports a formal offer from the Pac-12 has yet to be delivered, but that conference officials have alerted the Sun Belt of their talks with Texas State. It's been nearly nine months since the Pac-12 reached an agreement to expand the conference, adding Gonzaga to a group that included returners Oregon State and Washington State and five newcomers from the Mountain West: San Diego State, Boise State, Colorado State, Utah State, and Fresno State. The Pac-12 currently has eight total members but only seven who sponsor football, and the conference is required to have eight full, football-playing members to become an FBS conference. The Bobcats have long been considered the likeliest candidate to become that eighth full member, especially when talks with UNLV and Air Force in the Mountain West and Memphis, Tulane, UTSA, and other AAC programs broke down due to hefty exit fees. Advertisement The timing here makes perfect sense, as the buyout for Texas State to leave the Sun Belt doubles from $5 million to $10 million on July 1, giving both sides the motivation to knock this out in the next five days. Texas State gives the Pac-12 a footprint in Texas, a hotbed of recruiting in both football and men's basketball. The university is located in beautiful San Marcos, between Austin and San Antonio, and is considered a potential sleeping giant due to significant resources and a passionate and extensive alumni base. It's unclear at this time what percentage of the Pac-12's media rights deal the Bobcats will receive. For Gonzaga, the addition of Texas State doesn't move the needle much. The Bobcats have been D1 since 1984 but have only made the NCAA Tournament twice, as a 15 seed in 1994 and a 16 seed in 1997, losing in the first round both times. Advertisement The program won the Sun Belt regular season in both 2020-21 and 2021-22, but lost in the conference championship in 2021 and in the semifinals in 2022. KenPom has Texas State ranked No. 215 among all D1 programs dating back to 1997. The lowest ranked WCC team in that timeframe, Portland, comes in at No. 187, while SeattleU (196) and Eastern Washington (205) clear that mark as well. It's fair to assume Mark Few and Gonzaga won't be thrilled about lengthy road trips halfway across the country to play a team that has virtually no history of success on the hardwood, but it is always possible an influx of cash reinvigorates the Bobcats and the level of play improves over time.
