Fifi Box reveals horrifying moment she saved a drowning baby's life while on holiday in the Maldives: 'I was traumatised'

Daily Mail29-04-2025

Fifi Box has revealed how a harrowing ordeal, that saw her leap into action to save a baby's life, left her traumatised.
Recounting the horrific story on her Fox FM Fifi, Fev and Nick show on Tuesday, the radio star told co-hosts Brendan Fevola and Nick Cody that that incident occurred during a family holiday to the Maldives.
Explaining that she wasn't sure if her co-stars would believe her tale, Fifi, 48, enlisted witnesses to back up her story.
'We were in the pool non-stop. But something happened one day in the pool, and I thought if I told you boys, you might not believe me,' Fifi explained.
'So, I found myself a witness, a lovely Australian couple, Emma and Pete from Brisbane.'
Fifi then called on Emma to give her version of the dramatic incident which she said was 'confronting and scary'.
'We were drinking our Pina Colada's by the pool. You were in the water with [youngest daughter] Daisy, and a little girl had spent a lot of time floating around on her own,' Emma explained.
'Someone yelled, "Oh my god, she's gone under!" You turned around, picked her up, and plucked her out of the water. It was very confronting and scary to see.'
When Brendan Fevola asked Emma if his co-host had saved the lucky child's life, Emma said if Fifi hadn't been there, the situation may've taken a darker turn.
'She did [save the baby's life] because her parents weren't in the pool with her - they were on their sun lounge,' Emma said.
'She was probably three, she wasn't in floaties, just a floating ring, and I think she had slipped out.'
Fifi added that the incident had affected her and daughter Daisy so much, they had to leave the pool.
'There was deathly silence around the pool for minutes afterwards. I started crying and had to leave - Daisy and I left because it was too confronting,' she said.
'I was the only adult in the pool, and I turned around; she would have been 10 metres from me but under the water.
'We were in the pool non-stop. But something happened one day in the pool, and I thought if I told you boys, you might not believe me,' Fifi explained. 'So, I found myself a witness, a lovely Australian couple, Emma and Pete from Brisbane'

'We didn't know how long she had been under for. I plucked her up, and she was vomiting water all over me. It was horrible.'
Fellow witness Pete added that it was fortunate that it was Fifi that was called upon to spring into action.
'I was probably three pina coladas in so it was lucky it was you in the water,' Pete said to Fifi.
Continuing the conversation with her co-stars, Fifi added that she was surprised by the lackadaisical response from the child's parents.
'The mum didn't even get off the sun lounge,' she said.
'I'm actually fascinated because I've now been tested. I'm someone who freezes; whenever something goes wrong, I'm the person who can't move.
'When I saw that baby go under, I just raced to her. I was really traumatised.'
Fifi added: 'When she was vomiting and coming back to life – she was limp – so when she started to breathe and get all the water out… but the Mum hadn't moved. Everyone just stood around. I was visibly shaken.'
Another caller, Liz, also phoned in to back up Fifi's story revealing that she and her daughter witnessed the incident unfold.
Fifi has two children - Trixie, 11 and Daisy, five.
She shares Trixie with with former Ironman and Olympian Grant Kenny, while Fifi welcomed Daisy in 2019 via IVF and an anonymous sperm donor.
In November, the radio personality told Stellar magazine she's proud to have her media platform to show diverse families to everyday Aussies.
'It's important to point out and educate that families come in all different shapes and sizes,' she said at the time.
'Because I'm in the media and have a profile and platform, I'm able to shape and shift that, but it is frustrating,' she added.

Pete Wicks' desperate plea to give 'beloved' dog a home before he dies

Kind-hearted TV star Pete Wicks is urging Mirror readers to adopt Neapolitan Mastiff Theo who may only have months left to live because of a heart condition For Pete Wicks, it was very much love at first sight. And as Theo the Neapolitan Mastiff bounds over and gives him a big, slobbery lick, the feeling is most definitely mutual. 'He is a big boy, clumsy, goofy, and a bit of a doughnut, but he's so soft and gentle with this squishy, slobbery face, and I just absolutely love him,' Pete says. ‌ As the presenter of TV show Pete Wicks: For Dogs' Sake, he meets hundreds of dogs like Theo every year who are in desperate need of a home. ‌ But he was left so moved by Theo's heartbreaking story that Pete is now calling on kind-hearted Mirror readers to help. Because loveable Theo, who is only four-years-old, has a life-limiting heart condition that means he may only have up to a year left to live. Pete is desperate for him to find a loving home so he doesn't have to spend his final days in kennels. And the star has even offered to pay for all Theo's medical bills himself to lessen the financial load for anyone who adopts him. 'I'm not afraid to admit I'm very emotional when it comes to dogs but it hit me very hard, like a ton of bricks,' Pete says. 'It's impacted me quite a lot and makes me emotional now thinking about it…if you could meet him and just two minutes with him, he is this big, slobbery angel on Earth.' Theo has dilated cardiomyopathy which means that his heart struggles to work efficiently. He also has arrhythmia. ‌ 'We don't know how long he's got before heart failure. It could be months. It could be a year, but the likelihood is that as he gets older, it will get worse,' he says. 'He may not have a particularly lot of time left. He is being treated with different medicines, which are incredibly expensive, so I've offered to pay for these myself.' Pete says he would have loved to have adopted Theo himself, who is currently living at Kenilworth Dogs Trust. ‌ 'I genuinely would love to but we're at the beginning of filming for the next six months, which makes looking after him impossible,' he says. 'But its upsets me when I think of this dog spending whatever time he has left in kennels. 'If there ever is a dog that deserves to be at home and have however long he's got left surrounded by a family, this is the dog.' ‌ They first met while filming the new series of the smash-hit U&W show Pete Wicks: For Dogs' Sake at Dogs Trust Kenilworth. Theo arrived severely underweight after being found as a stray. For now, Theo, who weighs 52kgs, is being expertly cared for by staff, who have also fallen in love with him, particularly Louie his handler. ‌ Given his heart condition, they have to manage Theo very carefully, who is a little limited in terms of the amount of exercise he is allowed. 'Keeping a young dog who's kind of got this lust for life quite calm, especially when it's a dog of his size, can be quite difficult,' Pete says. Instead they try and keep him stimulated in other ways such as through licky mats and puzzles, which Theo enjoys. 'We try to stimulate his brain in a way that kind of exercise would normally do, but keeps him fairly calm in the process,' he says. ‌ According to the Dogs Trust, Theo would be happy in a home with teenagers aged 14 and above, and could live with another confident dog, following a successful meet-and-greet at the charity's rehoming centre. Emma-Jane Thomas, Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Kenilworth, adds: 'Theo is our resident gentle giant. He's got a wonderful temperament and buckets of love to give, but sadly, his health condition and life expectancy is putting off potential adopters. ‌ 'We're so grateful to Pete and the For Dogs' Sake team for helping us spread the word about Theo and his search for a home. 'Until we are able to find him a permanent home, Theo will be taken care of by our wonderful team of volunteer fosterers and staff at Dogs Trust Kenilworth, but we know his forever sofa is out there somewhere. And with Pete Wicks giving him the celeb seal of approval, how could you possibly say no?' Due to his size and energy. Theo will also need some support settling into a routine, including housetraining and gradually becoming comfortable being left alone. His ideal home would offer plenty of space and a peaceful routine, the charity says. 'If there ever there is a dog that deserves to live out the rest of his life surrounded by love, then it's this one,' says Pete. Pete Wicks: For Dogs' Sake is returning to U&W for a second and third series, as well as a Christmas special. Series one is available to stream for free on U.

All The Amazing Filming Locations In 'The Survivors', Netflix's New Thriller

There's nothing like a tense murder mystery to keep us glued to our screens, and Netflix's new crime series, The Survivors, has filled the gap in our TV schedules. If you haven't heard of The Survivors, the Australian drama flicks between the past and the present to tell the story of a coastal town, Evelyn Bay, that has been rocked with tragic deaths. The show is based on a bestselling novel by Jane Harper, and follows the story of Kieran Elliot, played by Charlie Vickers, as he returns to his hometown 15 years after losing his brother at sea in a storm. But on arriving back, he is met with another tragedy - a girl's body discovered on the beach. But alongside its twisty-turny storyline, something else has struck viewers: the gorgeous filming location. Think golden beaches, mysterious caves and rocky cliffs. Yerin Ha, who stars in the show, recently shared an Instagram post featuring some of the beautiful filming locations. As Ha's Instagram post suggests, the show was mostly filmed in Tasmania, but the production used several different locations to bring the action to life. Evelyn Bay is an entirely fictional town, which meant the crew has to get creative about where they filmed the series. Speaking with Tudum, Tony Ayres, the creator of The Survivors, said 'Evelyn Bay doesn't actually exist. Jane [Harper] made it up out of a number of different place.' The town of Evelyn Bay is bought to life through locations around Hobart, which is the capital city of Tasmania. Hobart has an urban landscape with a small population that strikes the right balance between nature and city, which the crew thought was perfect for the story. The Survivors. Cr. The eerie, remote locations, menacing cliffs and underpopulated areas work to represent the dangers the characters face, and adds to the sense of mystery that shrouds the town. According to Netflix's' Tudum, filming also took place at Eaglehawk Neck. Eaglehawk Neck is a small village which is about a 77km drive from Hobart, and hosts an impressive rocky shoreline. The Survivors. Cr. Courtesy of Netflix © 2025 ©Netflix Tony Ayres said that Eaglehawk Neck has 'such a gothic landscape. It's cliffs and sea caves and this pounding ocean. It really is so spectacular.' In another interview with Variety, Ayres explained why Eagle Hawk was the perfect place to film the show. 'It became very clear once we found Eagle Hawk Neck and the spectacular landscapes that the locations were going to be crucial to not just the tone of the show, but the themes of the show,' he told the outlet, adding that the landscape became integral to the story. 'We peppered the series all the way through with images from this sort of sense of foreboding that you have when you're standing on those cliff tops and seeing the caves and the ocean, the ferocity of the ocean, all of those things felt absolutely that they became emblematic of the storm, but also they felt metaphoric for the themes of the series,' he said. Alongside Eagle Hawk, some of the beach scenes were done at Freycinet Peninsula, which is part of Freycinet National Park and a place of great natural beauty. The area consists of dramatic mountain ranges and rocky cliffs which are integral to the show's atmosphere. One of these locations is Great Oyster Bay, which has breathtaking views of Schouten Island and the Hazards mountain range. Along with Tasmania, filming for The Survivors also took place in Docklands Studios in Melbourne. This location was mostly used for the interior shots, which allowed the crew to have more control over their environments. The studio is kitted out with six stages including two with waterproof pits, making it an ideal location for recreating the shows at-sea scenes. Alice Hall is the Staff Writer at Grazia UK. She was previously a Junior Features Writer for The Daily Telegraph. At Grazia, she writes news and features about pop culture, dating, health, politics and interiors.
