Where Was 'Happy Gilmore 2' Filmed? See the Real-Life Golf Courses Featured in the Netflix Sequel
Happy Gilmore has made his return — and this time, it's in New Jersey!
Happy Gilmore 2, which was released on Netflix on July 25, shows the return of Happy Gilmore (Adam Sandler) as he eases his way out of golfing retirement. Gilmore has to navigate the world of professional golf tournaments nearly 30 years after famously winning his first Tour Championship.
In addition to Sandler, the film also stars returning cast members Julie Bowen as Gilmore's wife, Virginia Venit, and Christopher McDonald as Gilmore's longtime nemesis, Shooter McGavin. The sequel also features Ben Stiller, Bad Bunny, Travis Kelce, Conor Sherry, Ethan Cutkosky, Philip Fine Schneider, Maxwell Jacob Friedman and Blake Clark, among several other real-life golfers and celebrity cameos.
While the original Happy Gilmore was primarily filmed in Vancouver, Sandler and the Happy Gilmore 2 team opted for a different approach and shot the movie in New Jersey in the fall of 2024. The film includes scenes from several golf courses, local spots and favorite beaches.
So, where was Happy Gilmore 2 filmed? Here's everything to know about the real-life locations the film's sequel was shot at.
Where was Happy Gilmore 2 filmed?
Happy Gilmore 2 was filmed across the state of New Jersey. Scenes were shot in a total of nine counties: Bergen County, Essex County, Hudson County, Hunterdon County, Monmouth County, Morris County, Passaic County, Somerset County and Warren County.
The movie's director, Kyle Newacheck, spoke to NJ Advance Media about what it was like pinpointing specific sites during the summer, a few weeks before the cameras started rolling.
'I really liked some old buildings we shot in. My only complaint is how humid it was when I was walking around scouting," he said. "I mean, it's not even really a complaint. I just remember that my entire being was covered in sweat, and I wasn't used to that feeling.'
Meanwhile, the state Economic Development Authority told the outlet that the Happy Gilmore 2 production spent a total of $152 million filming in New Jersey.
Which golf courses were featured in Happy Gilmore 2?
As Happy Gilmore 2 centers around Gilmore's return to golfing, it should come as no surprise that the movie showcases several of New Jersey's finest golf courses.
'My goodness, you have some beautiful golf courses out there in New Jersey,' Newacheck told NJ Advance Media.
The film featured shots from six different golf courses, but most of the scenes took place at two private country clubs: Fiddler's Elbow Country Club in Bedminster, according to Golf.com, and the Montclair Golf Club in Verona, Patch reported.
Fiddler's Elbow is a private club with a clubhouse and three unique 18-hole golf courses — the River Course, the Meadow Course and the Forest Course. The second primary club they used was the Montclair Golf Club, which is also a private club founded in 1893 with four 9-hole golf courses.
In addition to the two main clubs, the sequel was shot at Alpine Country Club in Demarest, Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, Beacon Hill Country Club in Atlantic Highlands and Rockleigh Golf Course in Rockleigh, per NJ Advance Media.
Happy Gilmore 2 also shot at driving ranges in the Closter Golf Center and the Essex Golf Center, as well as a mini golf course at the Farmview Golf Center in Hackettstown, per the Daily Voice.
What other spots were shown in Happy Gilmore 2?
While the movie takes place on several golf courses, there are still dozens of spots around New Jersey that are shown in Happy Gilmore 2.
Unlike the first film, the sequel includes numerous moments on a beach where Gilmore practices his swing away from the golf course. The main beach used in the movie was Ideal Beach, located in Middletown off the Jersey shore, according to NJ Advance Media.
Another major landmark in Happy Gilmore 2 is the castle-like venue where Gilmore gets honored for his golfing career. In reality, the property is the Pleasantdale Château & Conference Estate in West Orange. The famed estate has previously been featured in The Sopranos and Law and Order.
One less glamorous spot the filmmakers used was Newark Liberty International Airport, Terminal A. Newacheck told NJ Advance Media that they used the facility for a "big airplane joke."
Sandler and his costars were also seen filming at Goldberg's World Famous Deli & Bagels in Millburn, LOKL Café in Morristown, Faubourg Montclair restaurant and Steve's Burgers in Garfield, among others, per TAPinto Somerset Hills.
Jame Meier, who is a South Orange resident, saw Sandler filming with his daughter, Sunny Sandler, in South Orange and told The Village Green in September 2024, 'Adam and his daughter Sunny were so nice. They made a point to say hi to all the excited kids watching. They took some pics and thanked everyone for letting them film in their neighborhood.'
In addition to public outings, the cast shot at several private homes and residences in Kearney, Closter, West Orange, South Orange and Bedminster. A private home in Belleville serves as the interior of Gilmore's home, while a house in Irvington was the exterior of Gilmore's home, the director told NJ Advance Media.
Where was the first Happy Gilmore filmed?
The original Happy Gilmore movie from 1996 was filmed in various locations around Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Some of the filming locations include Furry Creek Golf and Country Club, Swaneset Bay Resort and Country Club and Pitt Meadows Golf Club, per Giggster.

I May Never Ride an Amusement Park Ride Again After Watching Netflix's Latest Docuseries
Each week, Netflix releases a list of the Top 10 films and TV shows dominating the platform, and for the week of July 21, the new original docuseries Critical: Between Life and Death made a big impression on viewers and it ranked No. 7 in the platform's most-watched shows. While medical shows -- including series like The Pitt, Pulse and ER -- have always been popular, Critical is an unscripted documentary that depicts real-life emergencies as they're happening. What makes it so captivating is the intensity and high stakes of these situations, and there's no shying away from the blood, open wounds and emotionally distraught patients and their friends and family here. Interestingly, the show fell out of the Top 10 pretty quickly -- after its first week, it dropped. That's not to say it's not popular, but my personal theory is that it has proven a little too intense for some people. That was my reaction, anyway. After a couple of episodes, I couldn't keep pace with all the grim, traumatic events; in fact, I'm shocked I kept watching after the first episode, which featured four people getting thrown from or crushed by a malfunctioning amusement park ride. Being that this is the height of summer and there's a Six Flags nearby that my kids and I frequent regularly, this is not what I wanted to see, and seeing this real incident unfold may have turned me off of fairs and amusement parks for good. I can't be the only person who gets a nagging feeling any time I board any kind of thrill ride that something terrible could happen, that I'm an accomplice to my own Final Destination death scene and here it is, proof that those fears -- while obviously not common -- can come true. The episode depicts the hospital call centers that are first notified of the ride collapse, and we witness ambulances, helicopters and emergency responders dispatched to the scene, later returning with their patients, most of whom are unresponsive. As the four patients injured at the funfair (as it's referred to on the show) are sent to several trauma centers around London, 40 cameras follow them and the health professionals who are helping them. We're given a front row seat to all of their treatments as their bodies are cut open, scans are taken and they're assessed for physical and neurological damage. I'm someone who gets grossed out by Dr. Pimple Popper videos, so there were several moments while watching this show where I had to look away. (Spoiler alert: The patients do get an epilogue of sorts where we learn that all of them not only survived but are back to leading healthy, relatively normal lives.) Netflix The show does address the fact that 50% of calls to the trauma centers in London are because of violence; accidents such as this one are much less common. And yet even with that in mind, I will panic forever at the idea that the giant spinner ride at the fair is going to dislodge and become a flying projectile. Critical: Between Life and Death is a remarkable show for just how close the filmmakers are allowed to get to such life-threatening action but watching the show made me realize some fears I didn't even know I had. At least while watching The Pitt, there was a sense of relief that it wasn't real. Here, there's no such comfort.

(Photo by) More Getty Images The former LPGA pro recently revealed that her appearance in the film wasn't the result of a formal audition but a "fake casting" situation. "There was a fake casting that came out a while ago, and I kind of threw my name into the ring," Spiranac revealed during her recent interview at SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio. "I said, 'Hey, I'm ready for (the role).' I put up a picture of me which was like recreating the 'Happy Place' with the iconic image of her (Virginia Venit, played by Julie Bowen in the original Happy Gilmore) in the white with the beer, and it gained a lot of attraction." "I think that's kind of how it all came together, but it was such a cool experience," she added, as posted by @siriusxmpgatour on Instagram. Who did it better, Virginia Venit or @PaigeSpiranac ? — Tour Golf (@PGATUOR) August 26, 2022 In "Happy Gilmore 2," Spiranac plays a Dick's Sporting Goods simulator attendant, assisting Happy Gilmore (played by Adam Sandler) as he attempts to rediscover his swing. Her cameo comes early in the film, where she watches in awe as Sandler's character blasts a ball through the simulator screen, leaving the crowd and Spiranac stunned. Reflecting on her time on set, she had nothing but praise for Sandler. "Adam Sandler is the most down-to-earth, humble, most genuine person I've ever met," Spiranac told SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio. The 32-year-old influencer also turned heads at the film's premiere at Lincoln Center in New York, where she walked the green carpet in a sheer red dress. Along with Spiranac, it was Scottie Scheffler who also stole the spotlight, arriving with the Claret Jug just one day after winning The Open Championship at Royal Portrush. Later, Scheffler was also spotted at "The Tonight Show," surprising Jimmy Fallon and fans. More Golf: Charley Hull, Once Dubbed 'Female Tiger Woods,' Seeks Major Breakthrough
