...HC reserves its order on petitions seeking stay on Batla House demolitions

Time of India7 hours ago

New Delhi: Delhi High Court on Monday reserved its order on petitions seeking a stay on the demolitions in the Batla House area.
Justice Tejas Karia wrapped up proceedings after hearing the arguments of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the individual petitioners who sought interim relief and protection.
HC was dealing with several petitioners, including affected residents Heena Parveen, Jinat Kausar, Rukhsana Begam, and Nihal Fatima.
Appearing for them, advocates Anurag Saksena and Sonica Ghosh urged the court to intervene and argued that the DDA issued a generic notice when there is no clear demarcation of properties that fall in the particular Khasra number under scrutiny for alleged illegal constructions.
The counsels maintained that not all properties in the Khasra are illegal and sought time from the court to produce the necessary documents. The petitioners submitted they purchased the property from a builder and were residents of the area since 1980-82. They are in the process of obtaining the documents, which are in Urdu and Farsi and require translation.
Opposing the plea, counsel for the DDA maintained that the properties are illegal.

The counsel argued that the DDA is taking action following directions from the Supreme Court and gave time to the residents to furnish documents, but they failed to do so. The agency added that the land is illegally occupied as the encroachers failed to show title documents.
Last week, in separate proceedings, HC stayed the proposed demolition of 11 properties in the same area after individual residents challenged the notices issued by the DDA.
The petitioners argued that nine properties were outside the Khasra identified by the DDA yet were being targeted, while two premises fell within the Khasra number but are protected under the PM Uday Scheme. It was also contended that before taking action, the DDA didn't hear them.
On June 11, the matter relating to demolitions by DDA in the area had reached HC in the form of a PIL but the court refused to grant any relief to AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan, saying that a general order of protection in a PIL of this sort was likely to jeopardise the case of individual litigants.
The Supreme Court on May 7 ordered the DDA to demolish unauthorised structures in Khasra number 279, which is estimated to be around 2.8 bigha or 0.702 hectare along Muradi Road in Okhla village. |

At G7, Trump says Iran not winning this war, calls Russia's removal from group a mistake

File photo: US President Donald Trump (Photo: PTI) KANANASKIS(ALBERTA): G7 leaders met on Monday seeking a common approach on wars in Ukraine and West Asia but before their summit formally began, US President Trump said removing Russia from the former G8 over a decade ago had been a mistake. Leaders from Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the US, along with the European Union, are convening in the resort area of Kananaskis in the Canadian Rockies until Tuesday. With an escalating Israel-Iran conflict, the summit is seen as a vital moment to try to restore a semblance of unity among democratic powerhouses. In an early sign they may struggle to reach agreement on key issues, a US official said Trump would not sign a draft statement calling for de-escalation of the Israel-Iran conflict. Asked about reports that Iran wants to work toward a resolution, Trump responded "yeah", and added, "they'd like to talk, but they should have done that before." "...I would say that Iran is not winning this war," Trump said at the start of a meeting with Canadian PM Mark Carney. Trump then asserted that it was a "very big mistake" to remove Russia in 2014 after it annexed Crimea, a move that precipitated Russia's wider invasion of Ukraine in 2022. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo "I think you wouldn't have a war right now if you had Russia in, and you wouldn't have a war right now if Trump were president four years ago," he said. Asked by a reporter if China should also be added, Trump said: "It's not a bad idea. I don't mind that if somebody wants to see just China coming in." Trump said it's important for world leaders to be able to speak with one another at summits. He said, "(President) Putin doesn't speak to anybody. He doesn't want to talk because he was very insulted when he got thrown out of G8....".

Trump abruptly leaves G-7 amid speculation US will bust Iranian bomb-making facility with bunker-buster

TOI correspondent from Washington: US President Donald Trump abruptly left the G-7 summit in Calgary on Monday evening to attend to security related issues in the middle east, scuppering a planned bilateral engagement with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived for the meeting even as Trump's departure was announced. Trump was at the summit for less than 24 hours before his sudden departure, with White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt asserting that "much was accomplished, but because of what's going on in the Middle East, President Trump will be leaving tonight after dinner with Heads of State." Israel-Iran conflict: Follow live updates Moments earlier, Trump alarmed the world by urging "Everyone should immediately evacuate Teheran" at the tail end of a post that read: 'Iran should have signed the 'deal' I told them to sign. 'What a shame, and waste of human life. Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again!" Trump is expected to go straight into a National Security Council meeting in the WH Situation room when he arrives in Washington DC, amid speculation that the US will join the Israeli attack to end Iran's nuclear program with one decisive move: Dropping a bunker-busted carried by American B-2 bombers -- the only weapon short of a nuclear bomb that can destroy the deeply buried nuclear enrichment facility at Fordo. Also read: Trump slams Iran for ignoring nuclear deal; US skips G7' de-escalation call Formally called the Massive Ordnance Penetrator, or the GBU-57, the 20 feet long bunker-buster weights 13600 kgs and can be lifted only by a B-2 bomber, neither of which Israel has even though it is a close US ally. Some experts reckon the US would have to use several GBU-57s to accomplish the mission of entombing Fordo, which war hawks see as the only way to decisively end Iran's pursuit of a nuclear weapon. Anything short of that will allow Iran to continue its pursuit of the atomic bomb. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! Among the first to break ranks is influential commentator Tucker Carlson, who went on a podcast with Steve Bannon (another isolationist), to argue that the US, already financially strapped, would only be weakened by getting involved in another war. A stung Trump, shot back with a post saying "Someone please explain to kooky Tucker Carlson that Iran can not have a nuclear weapon!" Carlson and some other MAGA principals have contended that the threat of Iran acquiring nukes is exaggerated and that there is not credible evidence that it is close to making a bomb. Among the few lawmakers who have dared to come out against Trump gradually putting US into the war is Marjorie Taylor Greene, who said "Anyone slobbering for the U.S. to become fully involved in the Israel/Iran war is not America First/MAGA. " "Wishing for murder of innocent people is disgusting. We are sick and tired of foreign wars. All of them. And this one will quickly engulf the Middle East, BRICS, and NATO as countries are required to take a side," she warned.

Israel-Iran conflict: G7 leaders including Trump urge 'de-escalation' on Iran

The Group of Seven (G7) countries meeting in Canada for 51st Summit in a joint statement has urged for 'de-escalation' on Iran as tensions in the Middle East continue to rise. The countries in their joint statement said that Israel has 'right to defend itself', adding that 'Iran can never have a nuclear weapon'. "We affirm that Israel has a right to defend itself," the statement said. "We have been consistently clear that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon. Trump leaves G7 Summit early US President Donald Trump abruptly left the Group of Seven summit on Monday, departing a day early as the conflict between Israel and Iran intensified and the U.S. leader declared that Tehran should be evacuated 'immediately.' Live Events World leaders had gathered in Canada with the specific goal of helping to defuse a series of global pressure points, only to be disrupted by a showdown over Iran's nuclear program that could escalate in dangerous and uncontrollable ways. Israel launched an aerial bombardment campaign against Iran four days ago. At the summit, Trump warned that Tehran needs to curb its nuclear program before it's 'too late.' He said Iranian leaders would 'like to talk' but they had already had 60 days to reach an agreement on their nuclear ambitions and failed to do so before the Israeli aerial assault began. 'They have to make a deal,' he said.
